So with the impending release of HoT, We’re looking at the addition of a bunch of new features. I’m relatively curious about character customization options in particular, such as hair styles, colors, and eye colors. Potentially new face styles as well, but I’ll admit in that I’m biased more towards hairstyles.

This seems like a good opportunity, since they could be slipped in with everything else, and I know the creative community we have could easily come up with various hairstyles for each race.

I don’t see any reason their current release model should change.

Are you advocating we shouldn’t get new ones until HoT comes out just to artificially plump up the features list? Its a long way out and I’d rather have the options sooner rather than later myself…

I’m hoping we’ll get a bunch more hairstyles, colours and everything that aren’t just style-kit exclusive.

Would be great if they would implement them in character customization instead of the make over/ hair style kits.

It does make sense, after all it’s an expansion why not expand the existing character customization for people that bought the expansion.

As the head of Anet said “it’ll all be coming fast now”. Lots of people have projected that they’ll launch in mid-april (can’t remember the exact day) because that’s when GW1 launched ten years ago, if it doesn’t come earlier. I don’t think that’s a humongous wait for stuff like this, and I’d rather they release everything all at once.

That’s not to say I don’t want them now. I just realize that with a massive release on the horizon, they’re much more likely to pack all their interesting stuff into it.

Let me ask the question a different way:

How many people do you think will consider free hair styles the tipping feature when deciding to buy/not buy?

This thing’s already gonna be a hurricane of money. There’s just no reason to not hold a little tiny thing like hairstyles and faces to pick up money three weeks before or after, rather than bundling it in a way that’s not even a footnote to the main happenings that week to most people.

My main reason for buying this expansion would be new hairstyles and faces. ;P

I do a lot of roleplaying, so the addition of new faces and hairstyles, no matter when, will get me to spend money. So, while it might not be a tipping point, it feels like to me they’d want to condense their release.

No, the exact opposite is true. If you’ve got a bundle that will get most people to pay (lets guess and call it) 40$ and you have another product you’re successfully selling for $6 a whack you want to separate the two so that the $40 sale doesn’t become a reason to put off/skip paying the $6. Most customers act on the basis they have X number of dollars they are willing to spend on frivolous stuff per month. You want to actually spread out your products so they never go over that amount in a single month.

And you definitely don’t effectively give your $6 product away for free when it’s not going to bring is significantly more sales.

And if the hairstyles is “your main reason”… don’t buy the expansion. That’s silly. Buy a makeover kit and call it good.

Its been a pretty long time since we last got any hairstyles or faces. Much longer than we’ve ever gone before if I’m not mistaken, at least since they started releasing new ones at all. I would have thought maybe it was because the character artists were hard at work at making stuff for a new race, but since we now know that’s not the case, I suppose maybe it is possible they’re just saving a big batch of them for the expansion.

I have seen people mention that a handful of new ones have been data mined, but I have yet to see them myself (I typically don’t watch that sort of thing too closely) so I can’t really verify that for certain.

I’ve also seen one or two mentions that there are actually NPCs in-game with new hairstyles, which we have seen happen occasionally before a new batch of hairs get released (I remember after Scarlet’s attack on LA one of the refugee coordinators, a Charr, had the bushy lion mane hairstyle long before we players got it) but I have yet to find anything like that either, and the people who mentioned it were to vague for me to track the possible NPCs down. I believe it was someone in the Silverwastes and someone in the Grove, though for the latter there have always been Sylvari with unique hairstyles in the grove, and I’m not so sure those hairstyles aren’t actually hats / helmets, namely the branch ones.

Regardless of whether its with the expansion or just as a normal gem store update, I do hope we get some new hair and faces sometime soon. We’ve gotten 2 new sets of colors somewhat recently, so I’m not really al that interested in that personally.

I’d for example find it awesome, if buying HoT would simply unlock permanently for HoT owners all the new hairstyles, face styles, colors ect. that are currently Kit Use Only stuff, so that HoT owns wouldnt have to use these kits anymore to get those hairy/face/color styles but instead would find them all as options directly in the Character Editor at Character Chreation.

I mean, ANet will get from Hot Sales alot of money again, and they have anyways alwys the upper hand on things like this and can add whenever they want more new hair styles and such things after HoT unlocked the old stuff permanently for HoT owners, where people, which don’t buy HoT would still have to buy the kits to get those hair styles ect. for their use.

Such things, like unlocking permanently some of the cosmetical stuff via buying expansions permanently to your accoutn surely would be a great incentive to buy those expansions, when they give you the cosmetical convenience, that you get with them some things, where you would normal have to pay gems for some consumeable cosmetical items and have them with the expansion then permanently, so that a Hot owner would first have to buy a kit again, when Anet should add again some complete new hair styles ect, that got implemented outside of the expansion with a normal biweekly patch or so

I think it’d be better if HoT unlocked a new set of faces and hairstyles while the old ones remained makeover kit only. The way people who have already used makeover kits to get some of the new hairstyles would actually have something to look forward to with HoT.
