This has probably all been said before but I’ve only just now gotten into trying to craft a precurser. I really wanted The Dreamer badly, though I wish it were a longbow for my Guardian XD

I started crafting The Lover, did the first set of weapon collection tasks. I got to the part where you craft the experiement… I realised to would cost me at that point to buy JUST the spiritwood planks and elonian leather 500g. The Lover was currently a buy now price of 470g, so I just said screw it and bought The Lover.

I really love the collection achievements, they’re super fun. I just thought the point of being able to craft the precursers was that they wouldn’t cost as much. I was sorely disappointed to find this out. That was only for the experiement, Tier 1! I cannot imagine how much the rest was going to cost.

The thing is, I could understand it being more expensive if you could craft unlimited amounts of them, but it’s set to one per account. That should be a huge reason to make it cheaper to do. It’s probably too late at this point seeing as it’s been released so long but just wanted to share my opinion.

tl:dr – Just disappointed that crafting The Lover is way more expensive than just buying it. I don’t mind the time factor as I love the achievement tasks.

The Lover is at the moment the worst Precursor to craft with the collection because it will cost you 640 gold more than buying it from the TP.

If you were going to make a legendary, you could have been stockpiling the daily materials all along. It’s supposed to be a journey. People who buy the materials because they can’t wait are gong to pay more, but it actually costs less of you make the materials.

According to gw2efficiency.com the cost of crafting it using mats you’ve gathered and crafting your daily cooldown is 313 gold.

What you’re paying for is convenience (or perhaps impatience).

They never said that the pre cursor crafting would be cheaper, its just an alt way to get them, the market changes everyday, there is a patch next week that could very well make it that The Lover is cheaper to craft than to buy depending on what mats are needed.

According to this

https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/29178-The-Lover

The Lover costs 1100G to craft at the moment, ( if you buy everything ) and around 500-600G to buy outright,

The site also has a break down of each part for each pre cursors, also remember like I said there is a patch next week so the TP flippers will be wanting to slowly push up prices of certain items along with other people who are buying up now to avoid massive price spikes after the patch.

Lmao how is having to log in daily to craft some mats “a journey”? Besides it’s way more profit just to sell those mats and buy the lover. Let’s not pretend the precursor crafting of the original legendary sets is decent in any way.

the point of collection achievements was never ever about the cost, however the root cause here is being able to buy legendaries in the first place -a bought legendary is an oxymoron.

No one is arguing it’s decent or if it’s a good or bad journey here, so why start one? It’s a journey, only because that’s the term Anet used to describe it. Maybe you think it’s a crap one … OK. Still, if the OP knows he needs mats from daily log ins, … he should have anticipated it.

Anticipated what? It’s still more expensive. Mats have value too.

Anticipated that if he was crafting a legendary, to collect the daily mats. The expense is no consequence if you are deciding on the crafting route … any player crafting should have has already done the due dilligence to see what they need and the cost.

As other people have said precursor crafting was never supposed to be cheap (or quick).

It was added because some people really hated that the major component of legendary weapons was entirely based on RNG. They didn’t want to wait forever for a drop or flush gold down the Mystic Forge hoping for the precursor they wanted and resented paying people who had done so.

Even if they had made them cheaper to craft than to buy outright all that would have happened was the price on the TP would drop to match it. Which actually did happen to some extent anyway: before crafting was announced precursor prices were much higher. If I remember correctly the Lover was about 800g before then.

Information is Power
Having so many sites about Precursors Crafting, about Legendary Journey, buy/craft comparatives… Why people still “surprised” about how much cheaper can be (some) precursors from TP than from crafting is beyond me.

The journey is personally going through all the steps to earn the weapon yourself. Pride in all that hard work is part of the satisfaction of having a Legendary weapon. Not just the cool looks and useful stat swapping, but the fact that walking around with it says you worked your butt off for it.

No journey for the new mace. I really liked making Nevermore, but this mace is just a grind.

Since the ascended weapon is the same strength, having a legendary is mostly about prestige and stat swap.

I have a few guildies struggling with the cost to craft a precursor. I went through that about a year ago when I first started thinking about ascended weapons and gear.

It takes the fun out of the game when you’re stressing about making gold to grab materials. I only have ascended gear on one character, the rest play really well with exotic gear. In fact, after I invested in the ascended gear, I couldn’t tell a difference while playing that character, even in HoT. The weapon seems the best value and maybe the coat. You can still do several tiers of fractals with only AR from trinkets and such.

Enjoy the game, your friends and collect or save what you can. Don’t get grouchy trying to rush to something that is not a big game changer.
