Precursor crafting clarification
They will NOT be awarded the 3 levels of mastery and they shouldn’t want to be!
Players who already have precursors can still pursue those mastery tracks to get their 1-per-account crafted precursor in addition to the one they already have.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Okay, yeah thought so.
Can you explain why they shouldn’t be?
Because if they were awarded it would lock them out of getting another one by the new method .
Keep in mind, for people who have a precursor or legendary already, they will be getting the new progression weapon skins automatically and for free come launch day. So that aspect of the rewards is fully retroactive.

True, but I already have all legendaries I wanted, tell me what motivation I have to get one of the existing precursers so i can start to craft a new legendary? (That is how I read it, maybe I’m wrong) – If the new legendaries should be my only motivation that’s pretty boring as I will get nothing of interest for me along the way – no, not even the gold I might get by selling the pre.
The collection based system of obtaining a precursor is parallel to the existing system of RNG, MF and TP. It doesn’t replace it. This means that players who don’t want to, or can’t afford to, forge one can collect one. But players who want 2 for the achievement for owning 2 legendaries can still achieve that.
Re-reading your original post, you seem to be concerned that you have to finish some or all of the old precursor tracks before you can start pursuing the new tracks. My understanding (and I’m very confident in it) is that you will not have had to have crafted one of the existing precursors before you can go about learning to make one from the new set. The new Legendaries have their own unique precursors.

Yeah, essentially this.
Like the people that already have legendaries might not have any motive to go through the process besides getting to to crafting the new ones. Which seems a little without reason to make them go through the first 3 “guidance” levels.
To clarify my concern a bit further…
It seems, from my interpretation, that one would have to craft an old precursor in order to be able to craft new precursors/legendaries. As in first 3 levels of the mastery help you create only the old percursors. At level 4 of the mastery you’re able to create new precursors/legendaries. So, you have to get through the first 3 levels, crafting an old one, to be able to craft a new one.
Could you craft the new legendaries/precursors without having to craft any “old” ones?
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
So by that definition the “Mastery track for unlocking precursor crafting” is nothing like leveling weaponsmith or any other craft but independed from crafting the new legendaries (which are a “higher tier” than the existing ones)? I’m not that convinced actually.
Edited because it was confusing.

My understanding is each precursor (old and new) has its own individual 3-stage track. Finishing (or being grandfathered) track progress on old precursors isn’t going to get you any closer to a new one or different old one.
Dancing and drinking and eating fine food (step 3 for the Moot) doesn’t exactly flow as a step in building the precursor for the Predator…

Ah, okay. I can settle with that.
I’m still not convinced, sorry, to me it still sounds as if I have to craft any of the existing “old” precursers to be able to craft any of the new precursers – maybe it also does sound like it to me as everything in this game is like that.
Well, being forced to craft old legendaries before getting any new ones seems awfully work intensive for something you don’t really want just to get to the one you do want….

Yeah, my thought exactly. I hope that this isn’t the case.
Just want to clarify if it is or isn’t the case.

Yes, but it’s “just” the precursers, I think. But it would further devalue the “old” legendaries as people like me would just sell their precursers, so it would be precursers from crafting and precursers from drops/MF on the TP – kind of contradicting to the approach they want to have with the new legendaries.
But the crafted precursors and legendaries are not going to be sellable. Right?

The old ones are:
" This final collection unlocks the recipe to craft the polished final iteration of the precursor. For all of our existing precursors, this is a tradable exotic weapon,"
from what I read so far that is correct…not tradeable.
You guys are confusing masteries with collections.
In order to unlock new legendary weapon precursors you need to have level 3 MASTERY of them (see mastery blog).
When you hit level 1 of MASTERY you unlock 3 levels of COLLECTIONS that allow you to get certain old precursors. you do not need to complete these collections to advance your mastery. Mastery is advanced only by 1. Spending mastery points, and 2. leveling up in HoT zones.
So to summarize:
1. Spend 1 mastery point – unlocks precursor collection for 7(?) OLD precursors
2. Talk to legendary trainer to unlock specific collection associated with those 7 precursors
3. Spend an additional mastery point(s) to unlock tier 2 mastery, unlocking the other 7(?) OLD precursors
4. Talk to legendary trainer to unlock specific collection associated with those 7 precursors
5. Spend additional mastery points to unlock tier 3 mastery, unlocking NEW precursors
6. Talk to legendary trainer to unlock specific collection associated with NEW precursors.
You never have to complete a collection to advance your mastery.

Thanks, that makes more sense.

Right, I forgot about the Masteries.
