Since HoT releases on a Friday, would it be safe to assume that those of us that prepurchased it will preload it on the Tuesday (Oct 20th) update?

No it’s not unless specifically said so, you shouldn’t assume there will be a three day headstart.

Since preloading is pretty commonplace, I will assume it. So there! :p

I don’t think there will be any preloading. Just like with the betas we’ll get several updates a few days before it starts and then they just flip the switch/release a small update.

Gw2 is a MMO after all.

Preloading (headstart) is usually mentioned as one of the bonuses (it was with the original release) since there has been no word on it whatsoever, i’ not gonna expect one.
And yes it’s common with newly released games, with expansions however? not sure.

I think that we will have the bulk of the expansion on our harddrive already some time before the release. They have been doing that with lots of things, updates, gemstore gear, beta weekend etc. All the data for those usually came in bulk a few weeks before and a small patch at the end to add any additional fixes/changes. I am assuming it will be the same for the expansion, even if players don’t own it. You still need to have the audio and gear skins etc on your harddrive for when you see players that do have it.

That would actually be preferable over one giant download.

just the ability to pre download it, even if it’s not playable until the 23rd would be nice.

That’s what preloading is. Having it loaded for the day it goes live so you can instantly jump in and play. But I’m starting to agree with others about it slowing being added in piece by piece in smaller weekly updates.

Preloading and head start are 2 different things. Preloading is have everything downloaded so we don’t have to wait 4 hours to play, which i assume they will do. I mean we already have some of the content on our computers right now because of betas. Head start is getting to play early, which I don’t think they plan on doing.

It’s already been preloading.

I spoke with one of the team, they said it’ll just be a patch, and you can just hop in the game like you normally do.

It’s already been preloading.

That. There’s already HoT content being added to the game in patches as we speak, its why datamining is a “thing” and can find stuff before its officially revealed.

By the time HoT launches, a pretty large chunk of it will probably already be patched out to everyone, and they’ll just need a moderate patch on launch day to enable everything.
