Sorry guys but I have to say this, you lot are really really bad at doing presentations!

I was cringing when those two people were presenting the new WvW map at EGX.
When you had Jennifer Hale do that at the first announcement, almost all of my guild began shouting “Death to Queen Jennah”, she was just that bad at it!

Seriously though, you might want to hire someone from a business which will do presentation for you!

This is your own game and I did not feel any excitement from those presenting, just nerves!

A good presentation help sell, a bad one does not!

I personally prefer people that have actually created the content talking about it. Sure they are not as good as professional presenters (that is not their job after all) but at least they know the exact thoughts and way of thinking behind the content being presented.

Presentation is everything? I don’t know about you, but I’m not still thinking about the presentations. I’m thinking about the content, which is what everyone will be doing when it comes out. Nobody’s going to be looking at the new WvW map and thinking, “Yeah this is OK and all, but do you remember how bad the presentation for this was? I think I’ll go do something else.”

I would prefer that a more profession presenters would be there along with the devs.
The presenters would know how to lead them to talk about what they did and make thm less nervous.

They could literally have someone come up and say “Watch this” and play the video and I’d be satisfied. The presentation doesn’t matter. Plus I’d rather they spent their money on developing the game then hiring someone to give a presentation.

well, since even the Giant Enemy Crab-incident did not destroy the PS3, I think you overrate these issues.

I’d rather they didn’t. Granted, a pro might have done a wonderful presentation that would generate a massive hype… but we’d likely have had far less idea of what the presentation was about. Besides it being amazing, that is.

Yes, smooth presentations can help sell an item to people relatively unfamiliar with what your product is. In a panel like that it really doesn’t matter; what does matter is what they said, not how they said it. And as the players have proven repeatedly, we want to hear from developers, not PR people.

All you’re doing is trying to shame the presenters by pointing out that they were nervous and trying to hide it behind “advice for anet”. Don’t do this, it’s just rude and insulting to everyone. Calling people out on not being a professional public speaker is just going to make them more nervous next time and less likely to even want to do it again. Not to mention it’ll make Anet even more cagey about releasing information.

When preaching to the choir, you don’t need exciting marketing person, all you need is a boring priest and the choir will still sing praises.

I actually enjoy watching them nervous on stage because it shows how down to earth they are.

However I agree that the presentation needs some improvement, but some how I like it to remain the same.

PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

I’m fine with them just being regular people rather than polished slick spinners. The oilier someone gets about their product, the more I resist buying it. These presentations are from the people who are actually working on the game, not trained public speakers who spend all their time hyping it up.

Maybe it’s just that I have a lot of empathy for being highly uncomfortable in front of a camera, but I like the presenters just the way they are.

I don’t know why so many people care about the presenters being so nervous. We are all excited about the game and new content, not people. I really could not care less about the people presenting that content (I mean that in a good way)

Well then in that case, better preparation. Practice what they were going to say. I know presenting isnt for everyone, but the more you practice the less nervous you get, sometimes.

Yes I want to know what the content is more than a flashy presentation, but for me, the nervousness of those two came through more than the content.

What time should they spend on preparing though?
When they are working they are developing the game, not standing in front of a mirror talking.

I could be mistaken and please don’t hesitate to correct me but I think many of you have misunderstood the OP.

Devopers need to be part of these presentations as people have commented they understand the game and its mechanics better than anyone else, I agree 100% with this statement.

However the presentation does count for a great deal and should be done to a level that represents the game well – First impressions count for a lot.

I would suggest a proffesional presenter with experience to carry the show, almost interviewing the developers prompting the direction of conversation – working together though making the show run much more smoothly.

omg plz dont listen to the op.

while I actually dont agree with many things going on in this game, the one thing I like is their presentations; when I see a guy playing the game that he was coding few hours before I feel connected to it, I know he knows what he’s doing and I trust his explanations

when presentations are done by marketing specialists I cant stand the corporate talk and manipulitive tricks they are using

Nope. I’d rather hear REAL info from REAL people than planned Marketing BS.

I rather see uncomfortable honesty from actual people than polished hype from a paid spokesperson.
