Q:
Hi,
Before a massive flame war starts, I would like to ask everyone to keep it civil. Thank you in advance.
.
Dear ArenaNet,
As a World vs World player, the past 3 years Guild Wars has brought me joy, small updates over time, world vs world ranks, account bound magicfind. Awesome stuff, as soon as I heard about this asskicking Revenant class, I thought: I want to try that upon release! This sounds amazing.
I rushed to the pre-order page as soon as I came online. But what I saw.. it was shocking..
For a standart package you charge 45,99€, and it comes without character slot.. The only thing I wanted from this expansion and was willing to pay for was the Revenant class and that is impossible unless I pay extra for it.
I am not going to get into the “New players get a free gamecopy as bonus” dicussion to much, but come on, if it wasnt for us and our gemstore purchases, the company would not be able to pay the salary of the gamedevs that made this expansion.. I’m fine with giving them something extra, but for this pricetag Sigh
In advance to possible replys:
- I don’t want to spent 60 hours goldfarming to be able to play an expansion that I paid for.
- I don’t want to hear “But world of warcraft did not give extra character slots” Want to know why? I also been an active W.o.W player, but in W.o.W you will get laughed off the stage if people hear you mention paying for character slots or bagspace, or bank tabs. You can get bagspace and banktabs for gold, or just use one of your 10 character slots.
.
.
You’re suggesting me to either:
A. Delete 20€ worth of gems (in unlocked bagspace) + Lv.80 character.
B. Spent 800 gems worth 10€ for an extra character slot
How is that fair? I’m buying a product to play the new class, I am not interessed in buying the abillity to play a new class, but only if I am willing to spent more money.
All these complaits could be solved by making people who PRE-ORDER, get PRE-ORDER bonuses. Because what is the point in a PRE-ORDER, if I get the same out of it when I buy it on the day of release, or the month after release.
This would have solved all off the complaints, and I am 100% positive off it:
“Hey, everyone who pre-orders gets a bonus 800 gems for free! You can use it to buy either a character slot, or spent it on a fancy outfit in the gemstore! Happy gaming!”

Another thing I would like to address is currency favouritism:
American currency favours people with roughly 20% discount.
Let’s take a moment to compare the Ultimate edition.
American players pay: 100$ (Equals: €88,15)
European players pay : 100€ (Since when are dollars equal to euro’s o.O)
UK based players pay: 79,99GBP (Equals 112.10€)
It has got nothing to do with VAT, the United Kingdom is part of the EU and has similair VAT regulations, as a matter off fact, their VAT of 20% is below EU average, where Luxembourg is bottem leader with 17% and Sweden on the top with 25% VAT.
Now I can already smell the comments.. “Yeah, but it has to do with conversion!”
Since when are conversion rates 1/5th of the total amount? If thats the case, you got to find a new payment processor.. A difference for conversion rates? Sure, but not this large.
Many off us pay by PayPal, on a 35Gbp transaction, paypal charges 1.57GBp processing and conversion fees. That is just about 4,5%, and it already includes conversion to US Dollars.
That being said, I as European customer, can also pay in Dollars through paypal, why am I not allowed to by ArenaNet?
Looking forward to the replys…
