Hello, I’ve been trying to drop the item called “Pristine Smoke Claw” for the Reaper elite specialization collection “Dark Harvest” from smokescales for months but I’m not getting the item. I’ve seen people farming with me drop it after like their 3rd – 4th tries. I’ve killed hundreds of them and still no luck. I contacted the support about this and they just sent me a wiki link about smokescale spawn places. So I’m wondering if anyone else is also having this issue, if so can you please make some noise here so we get attention?

Don’t know where you’re farming them, but I had a similar problem until I started farming them by the entrance to the golem hit point in AB. There’s a bunch of them there, mostly veterans, so bring a couple of friends. Changing to that place worked for me.

I know every single place where they spawn and I farmed them all quite a lot, even the ones in WvW maps. Still nothing…

Probably a silly question, but are you doing the killing on your reaper? As far as I’m aware, unless you use the said class and have the collection active. It took awhile for it to drop for me. I went to the hill by the SCAR camp.

You have just been unlucky in obtaining this specific item. If the drop rate is 2% then we can expect that 1 out of every 1000 will have to kill at least 225 smokescales.

The best strategy is to ignore it. You will get these type of drops by accident eventually. If you can’t wait, then consider making the farm be more than just about farming:

• Practice a different class or build.
• Practice bursts useful for PvP and WvW.
• Kill smokescales by flawlessly countering their mechanics.

I got dh colletion item drops when i was on my rev so i doubt that really matters. I think you only need to have the collection unlocked.

@op you are probably as unlucky as i was it took me a long time until i got the claw for my reaper colletion.

Well I have almost 2000 hours into the game since I got HoT and I also had my Reaper ever since. Also, I got all the other classes’ drops within the first 10 kills so this is ridiculously irritating. And I really do not think it is only 2% drop rate @Fergus.4208

It’s just RNG. The more elite collections you do, the more likely you’re going to run into one or two that just won’t drop. For me it was the Silencing Down Feather for Bo, along with a tiger bit for the berserker torch and dust devil bits for the ele warhorn. Annoyingly, those were all drops off things I didn’t tend to kill as part of events so I had to go out of my way to farm them at very boring length. Other things I didn’t kill as part of events dropped their thing fast enough not to be an issue, such as the one off the oakhearts in Phinney Ridge.

You’re not alone; these threads show up every time someone hits an RNG wall on one of these elite mob-specific items. Take heart — eventually the item does drop for everyone posting their woes.
