Purchase HoT through 3rd party vendor?

I was debating buying HoT through a 3rd party due to price, and I saw an old thread from July 2015 where Anet said the pre-purchase version of HoT is only available through Anet, and any 3rd party offers are fraudulent.

So I’m wondering since it’s been a couple of months after release, if anyone bought their HoT through a 3rd party and if it’s ok to do? IE Anet did allow non-fraudulent 3rd parties to sell HoT and buying a CD key through a legit 3rd party won’t get your account locked?

If buy from not authorize seller risk get account suspend or ban. Many post from player that buy from not authorize seller get account suspend or ban when HoT release. Reason is because some seller buy with stolen card and then sell key. When sale report for fraud person use that key get suspend or ban. So you do at own risk.

Have to ask self, is get a good price on key worth lose account if the sale is scam or bad?

guildwars2.com has a list of authorized sellers. If they aren’t on the list, you are out of luck if anything goes wrong either immediately or even in two years, when an issue is discovered and ANet asks for your original authorization as proof of purchase.

Just select your country to get a list of authorized retailers.

Edit: What a load of crap that list is.

Walmart doesn’t have any Guild Wars games show up in the search results on their website. Just some of the books and a gaming headset. You may be able to buy it at a store, since obviously it’s not available through their website.

On Newegg all they have listed for GW is ‘Guild Wars 2 PC Game’ for $69.78 (this is the core game without the expansion) and the Heroic Edition of the core game for $68.81 (which also doesn’t include the expansion). Newegg has really gone to crap in the last couple years or so though.

Best Buy and Gamestop both have it available for purchase through their websites at the regular price of $49.99 for HoT and $74.99 for the HoT deluxe edition. This is probably your best bet to purchase it if you live in the U.S.

That’s the thing though. Any site that sells it for a lot less than the standard $49.99 for the basic HoT edition is probably not allowed to sell it and you risk buying an invalid serial key. You may get lucky and find it for cheaper through an authorized retailer.

When HoT launched some players had their accounts suspended because they purchased the expansion for cheap (some around $10) and it turned out they bought from non-legitimate sources and the serial keys weren’t valid.

In other words, if the price is too good to be true, you should probably not buy it.

There’s something charming about rangers.

Buy it through Anet, better safe and spend more, then be banned/hacked and out of pocket

It’s actually safer to buy it through an official 3rd party than it is directly through ArenaNet. If for whatever reason your method of payment happens to be refunded, like if your bank/credit card flags the transaction as suspicious and cancels the payment, ArenaNet will permanently ban your account with no option to recover it.

Oddly, a little after pre-purchasing, ArenaNet’s policy on this changed where they’ll revert and unban the account, but only for those buying fraudulent keys.

I have been using the same online vendor for several years. Have bought 2 WoW expansions, several wow time cards, both GW games and also both Diablo 3 games. Not an issue. And the best is that you have no need to wait for the disks to come after day or few. Yet i did some research about the vendor to see if it was legit.

I looked at that list out of curiosity. Funnily enough it did not list the place I bought HoT from for Finland where live, but it is listed for Denmark.

If you buy yours (physical copy) at a legitimate store whether a game store or even a hypermarket, it is almost certainly the real thing. At least here they are a little bit less expensive than direct buy, but not a tremendous amount.

If the deal seems too good to be true, it could be fraudulent. Use your brain.

(cheap is a bad word?)

I’d never buy from those dodgy-sounding sellers who will email you the unlock code but I see no problem in buying the physically boxed version from reputable outlets like Amazon.

If you buy off Amazon or Newegg make SURE that it is sold by them not “fulfilled by Amazon” or a Newegg reseller.

Put another way, “resellers” aren’t authorized vendors.
