One thing that’s got me really curious about HoT is how will ArenaNet handle PvP. If the Mastery system is restricted to HoT owners only, will that also mean only HoT players will be able to use the Mastery system in PvP? Or will Mastery be disabled for PvP? Or is the Mastery going to be part of a free update? Or will players have limited access to the Mastery system for PvP only, and lose the feature when enterting PvE/WvW?

So many questions, and this topic is one that has me most curious, given how ArenaNet origionally planned for PvP to be the most balanced and fair playing ground as possible.

I personally think if Mastery system is going to be restricted for HoT owners only, giving limited access to the system for PvP would be a great marketing choice, as it would keep things balanced and also act as a passive marketing scheme to encourage players to buy into the expansion. What do you guys think about this topic?

Would appreciate if a dev could clear this mystery up for me, though I doubt that will happen ^.^

According to all of the mastery blogs, the masteries are PvE only.

Other than new classes/specialisations and stronghold, PvP isnt really changing

All proffesions 80

1. I think you mean specializations instead of the mastery systeem. The mastery system is completely unrelated from PvP.

2. Yes, specializations are HoT-only.

3. Yes, it seems like specializations are usable in PvP but Anet is intending them to be horizontal progression. That means that they are aimed at providing more options, not at providing stronger options. Whether that will hold true or not in practice remains to be seen of course.

I am more curious on how they are going to rework the pvp dailies as at this time they somehow can’t get 8 profession with 2 appearing on the list each day to reach an equal average showing and then you get a 9th one involved.

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

The mastery system just doesn’t make sense for pvp. Masteries are meant to provide a kind of abilities-based progression for players at max level. Adding progression (other than reward tracks and finishers, which we have) to pvp would segment the people who can be paired against one another in matches and makes wins dependent more upon your masteries than actual skill.

TL;DR – it makes sense that masteries should be pve only.
