Hello. I can’t wait till new expansion comes out and I have a question, maybe some1 already asked for it, but do Elite specs will be much stronger than the standard professions like I have played with elementalist and now I have to use warhorn to be the tempest? Or its just an option to use the elite spec?

No, the Elite specs are not stronger. They are different, but not stronger.

You don’t have to use the Elite spec specific weapon by using the Elite spec, but you do need to use the Elite spec in order to use said weapon.

Well, that’s actually a nice debate about wether the elite specialisations offer greater power than the base class.

I’d say a revenant with Glint elite spec is more interesting to use. Same as with thief getting an extra dodgebar with daredevil. You could argue that it makes the class better but it all depends on how you play.

I’m mainly a power necromancer so I will definitely go Reaper because I felt necro was lacking without the reaper spec.

I wonder if they have given much thought to how elites will play if you are nowhere near the HP to do a full unlock but many others are?

With the standard ones we get 100% of what we need to unlock EVERY skill and trait for ‘free’ by getting to 80. Elites would add to what we have to spend in order to get their own skills and traits. They should be like the other tracks: full unlock at 80. Someone just rolling a character now could choose to buy elite skills/traits … but not existing 80s.

Existing could do it as well. We knew about Elite Specializations before they changed the trait-system.

BTW, since we do not know how many points to hold out and what the ladders will be new 80s can not realistically hold out points as they level either.

Yes, they were there before HoT was announced. But they Trait system was changed AFTER HoT was announced, and thus we already knew about the Elite Specs and could save up points after unlocking what we needed/wanted from the core lines.

The trait system was changed on June 23. That was about half a year after HoT was announced.

I have only game, and if I dont buy HOT can i use elite specs for my characters?

They did not tell us we needed to reserve HPs for elites though. It was ‘you will have enough HPs at 80 to unlock everything’. So when I logged in and needed to redo my traits and skills I was not supposed to grab all of them back?

I can see several situation where using the Elite Spec would not be a good idea.

I for one will probably not use it on my WvW Warrior for example.

No. Elite specs (and Rev class) are only available to those who purchase HoT.
