since we get one character slot for buying the standard edition, does that mean if we buy the ultimate edition we get 2 character slots?

You don’t get one character slot for buying the standard edition.

If you bought and registered GW2 before January 23, 2015, then you get an additional character slot for being a veteran.

Therefore, the Ultimate Edition would give you 1 and the veteran bonus would give you a second one.

You still have to buy a HoT upgrade, of any of the three levels, to get that vet bonus slot.

Then if you buy premium or ultimate you get another slot on top of that as part of the package. This is their response to the wide-spread complaints about vets who want to play revenant without deleting any maxed out characters or being “forced” to pay more money beyond the base fifty bucks.

Based on your first post on the forums occurring a year ago, yes, you’ll get 2 slots.

If you bought the game before 23rd January 2015 and you buy the standard edition you will get 1 character slot at some point in the future.

If you bought the game before 23rd January 2015 and you buy the Deluxe or Ultimate edition you will get 1 character slot right away and one at some point in the future.

Everyone who buys the expansion will also get a beta slot, but that can only be used during HoT beta tests and will disappear when the expansion comes out.

I might be wrong, but I get the impression that if you purchased the game before June 16, 2015, and don’t ask for a refund (for people that bought after January 23, 2015) you’ll also get the free slot. I might be reading between the lines though.
