Since I’m looking to finish my first exalted weapon collection for my thief, I went to Tarir and spoke to the vendor, who is selling the Auric Shielding items needed for the specialty collection.

Specifically I need an Auric Staff Shielding, and since I also had an 80 ranger, it worked out fine since both of them needed the item for their ascended weapon collection.

However, as I have not played for more than a little over a month, so this is my first time doing it, and the vendor stated that I could only get the item once, and asked if I was sure I wanted to get it now.

That made me curious about the other classes and whether they shared such an item as well. So I went to look it up, and most of them don’t, but the Mesmer and the Revenant both share the Auric Shield Shielding.

The question is, what happens if I level a mesmer and decide I want to get the ascended weapon, so I buy the Shielding, but then at a later date, I decide I want a revenant, and want the ascended weapon as well? Don’t tell me you have to hang on to a collection item forever, just in case you want to play a future class sometime down the road?

The wiki also says “only purchasable once per account”, but that can’t possibly mean I’m screwed in the future if I buy it for the mesmer and delete it afterwards, can it?

Sorry in advance for the dumb question, I just want it confirmed either way.

I’m sorry I don’t have an answer for you, but I’ll admit I’ve been curious about that too. It crossed my mind when I was working on the staff for my Daredevil. After I finished it and had deleted the things I didn’t need any more, I started thinking about what would happen if I wanted to do the same for the Druid staff? Would I be out of luck?

You won’t need to buy it twice.

I got my druid’s staff early on in HoT, and immediately deleted that collection item. Then a week or so ago, I finally got around to leveling my thief to daredevil… that collection item was automatically added.

Mesmer and rev both get shields, which requires the machined shield collection achievement. This is shared between the classes and counts towards both classes ascended specialization collection.

If you haven’t got the class at that time it will automatically complete that part of the achievement once you unlock the specialization:

Say you have a level 80 daredevil and finish the collection for Bo, during which you also complete the Machined Staff collection, you then create a level 80 ranger and unlock the druid spec – the machined staff part of the Yggdrasil collection will be automatically unlocked.

Fantastic. I’ll go ahead and take your word for it, since you don’t appear to be doubting your statement in the least. Thanks a lot for the quick answer. I’ll go ahead and delete the Shielding

I’ll add in my guarantee — I have made all 9 elite weapons without saving “collection only” items in the process. I even made the Bastion for my Herald with the machined shield counting even though I made Horologus (Chronomancer shield) before I ever even created a Revenant.

This must’ve been patched. I made Glint’s Bastion. When I completed it I salvaged the machined shield because it’s only an Exotic.

I just started my Mesmer’s Elite spec and learned I’m to make a shield again. The machined shield is not unlocked in the Horologicus collection.

Side note: I still had the mystic barricade so that did unlock.

Hmm … I may still have had the machined shield, but it was on an alt, not in the bank. I would think if you have the machined skin unlocked in Wardrobe that the collection would check that and credit you.
