Hello,

As many other users i am excluded from the ascended armor gears. Indeed i play to have fun and crafting is not something i want to spend any time on.

The question:
Will i still be excluded from the ascended armor gears in the soon coming expansion?

Bottom line is that anyone should be able to have access to best gear without being forced to do something you don’t like (if i can buy it at TP, even expensive it is fine).

Thanks for answering

This here we call entitlement. The same argument could be used for anything – “I don’t like doing x content, but I want the reward for x content. This is not fair!”.

I’m not opposed to alternative methods of reliably getting ascended armor and weapons, though, and I feel those alternative methods could bring alternative skins with them. However, I can’t see not liking crafting as a valid reasoning.

I really don’t see why some people hate crafting that much.
You can open a guide, buy all the materials from TP and craft an ascended armor in about 20~30 minutes, maybe a few more mins if you have 0 crafting skills.

I do actually, to some extent anyway. Anet has made an explicit point of promising the game to be ‘play as you want’. For example, for exotics there is a variety of options available to get them (loot drops, karma vendors, crafting, trading post). Thus exotics can gotten by playing as you want. This is not the case for ascended gear. It is then not a matter of entitlement but a matter of Anet making good on their promise.

If you like dungeons, do some fractals, if you like WvWdo WvW, if you like PvP, do some PvP.
And one day you’ll drop some. Then you have an easy recipe to change the gear to the stat you want.

And in PVE, there is a collection that give 1ascended gear
You can also get them with luck during guild mission.

Edit:
What i want to say is that there is lot of way to get them, it’s just harder than getting exotic, and that’s normal since it’s higher tier.

Ah, but then the reasoning is not distaste for crafting, but the lack of alternatives. It’s a matter of presentation, and arguments, suggestions and questions are all about presentation.

Don’t get mad, i stopped playing a bit after the ascended armor were introduced (the forced crafting was part of the reason).

I am asking to know if i should come back or not, i am not requesting something.

Actually, I don’t think ascended is mendatory, except for high level fractal.
An exotic stuff will do the work. You’ll be at disadvantage in 1v1 if you fight a full ascended foe but in WvW you don’t go alone too much.

And as I say, each WvW level you get, you’ll win 4 items. And sometimes you get ascended stuff. So if you play only WvW you can still get ascended item just by doing what you like.
bad side: it’s RNG, but it’s not as low as precursor ^^

You know what the funny thing is? My guardian is in full ascended armor, has an ascended greatsword, and an ascended scepter.

I haven’t crafted ascended gear at all.

I got all of those as drops from WvW rankup chests, PvP reward track chests, Fractal rewards, and Teq’s big chest. They were originally different stats, but since ascended stat changing was put in I’ve been able to convert them all to berserker. You don’t need crafting to get ascended gear, but you will be at the mercy of RNGesus.

Ascended gear can drop from killing players in WvW and possibly in reward chests. Also, there is a way to put a piece of ascended armor, 5 globs of ectoplasm, an exotic insignia with the stats you want, and a Mystic Coin (I think?) into the Mystic Forge and you can convert ascended armor stats.

If you pull a Nomad’s Ascended gear piece, you can convert it to Berserker for not much more than 10g, but likely less if you have any mats sitting around already.

Also, it really isn’t necessary. The stats are a mere +5% on exotics, so skill will still be the deciding factor in most all fights.

There are alternative methods of acquisition for ascended gear:
Fractal tier reward chests
Drops from: champ bags, silverwastes buried chests, Tequatal, triple trouble, guild missions, pvp reward chests, wvw reward chests
Collection Achievement rewards

But as it is the highest tier of armor the drop rate is low and it should be.
If you want a guaranteed way to get it, you craft it.

In that case it is very likely that you shouldn’t come to the game.
Anet may make a few ways to get ascendeds, but I really doubt that they will be reliable, similar to what we have now (except for crafting of course)

I just wish that crafting ascended wasn’t such a pain in the butt. At least take the timer off of crafting the mats.

You must had forgot why they did Ascended in the first place. Its entire existence was conceived to be the AR containers for Fractal’s artificial gear gating. When people blew through fractals, and wanted high scales, they created Ascended armor and weapons to supplement the limit the trinkets had.

The ONLY reason Ascended armor and weapons got a stat boost, was a response to complaints about ascended armor and weapons not being worth the massive effort, but still being mandatory for high level fractals. This stat boost had 3 effects….

1. It satiated the fractal farmer complaints on the subject
2. It can lure EVERYONE from PvP to PvE into the trap of wanting it, so….
3. It finally give them a method to recycle, and drain excess mats off the TP, giving their version of “value” to a largely ignored set of commodities.

But like a lot of plans that involve the TP, it eventually back fired on the player base, as the division of rewards (choice of farming mid level mat vs high level mats) discourages too much of the population to fill demand. The result is a high demand of weak supply, leading to extremely high prices of even the most common materials needed in the process.

Add a touch of irony in fact that in order to even being ascended crafting, player will need a fairly large amount of expensive materials. I’d argue this point less if we didn’t blow through T4’s level range so quickly; leading to a smaller supply stash. I remember doing this during Year 1, and not having enough cotton, linen, or the related fine mats, to do leather working in a single sitting. Its the only time I used to the TP to level crafting. I recently did Armorsmith an Tailor to 400 in one go, having saved ALL my basic mats for almost a year and half. I leveled Tailor to 500 to make Dwayna’s light, but this time around had to turn to the TP for cloth.

Since then, I’ve been forced to be super efficient to gather the resources for all the skin crafting I’ve been looking into; mostly in relation to cheaper collection items. If only I had enough to make spirit bows when they were first introduced…. I could had made enough money to seed all the projects I’ve been doing since then.

I also get ascended via SPVP though extremely rare, WvW extremely rare, Karka Queen (about twice the rate of WvW but still too rare) and reliably, high fractals.

Assuming you dont do any of these, what exactly and precisely do you do ? Exclusively the low end open world content ? The 1 spam ?

If so, then no, I disagree with you for 2 reasons.

1. You simply do not put any effort whatsoever, as zoning into a map and turning on your 1 skill auto attack does not count as effort, and thus do not qualify for best in game rewards.

2. If A-net did that then it would invalidate all these for the people that do put in the effort. I do not agree with invalidating such things, as these are symbols of some sort of an in-game accomplishment, in 1 form or another.

So any change you propose would have to be such that it retains validity of everyone that already has it, and properly rewards effort / risk vs rewards. If what I assume (though perhaps incorrectly) you propose that ascended now starts to frequently drop from the 1 spam outdoor events, then that is a horrible and bad idea for the whole game and I am against it.

In fact, those rewards overall need a nerf, due to how effortless they are.

That all being said (and true) I just started playing again and have gotten 3 ascended gears from S PVP. So Stop being lazy, there are a few methods to acquiring gear and I’m sure there will be more soon.

As a further note to killacam, I will also add that you don’t need to be very skilled in PVP or WvW to get an ascended piece. I remember testing some crapy unfamiliar mesmer build not even playing TPVP and get rewarded with a berserker weapon chest. I remember joining a ramdom zerg in WvW like a year and a half ago running a staff interruption build and getting an armor ascended piece on a ramdom mob by taking up a garrison……(The stas were crap but anyway I kept it and it turned out to be useful with the recent change…:D)

You can level 0-500 in an hour or so then buy all the mats required from TP. You can access it easily, I don’t understand what your issue is – you say you don’t want to craft but it takes so little time your complaint is irrelevant.

You can now change the stats of your ascended armor rather easily. So do like I did: just wait till the armor pieces drop and make you armor as you go. Since April 2014, I’ve had four armor pieces and three weapons, playing pvp casually. That’s almost a full character!

You must had forgot why they did Ascended in the first place. Its entire existence was conceived to be the AR containers for Fractal’s artificial gear gating.

Not true. Agony was merely an outward justification for Ascended – creating an artificial need for them. The real reason why Ascended gear was introduced was to create a huge money, materials and time sink for players. It is a gear players were supposed to spend a ton of time working on (so Anet didn’t have to create more worthwhile content). It was also Anet’s test on how a gear hamster wheel would be received (If it would have been liked, Anet seemed fully ready to switch to gear based vertical progression).

The ONLY reason Ascended armor and weapons got a stat boost

They didn’t. Anet ultimately didn’t go through with that idea.

Since April 2014, I’ve had four armor pieces and three weapons, playing pvp casually. That’s almost a full character!

So, in 15 months you managed to only get 2/3 of an armor set for only a single character? And you somehow think it’s a good acquisition rate?

Bottom line is, Ascended armor is in no way mandatory, and is easily obtained by crafting. This is like complaining that you are excluded from dungeon armor skins because you only feel like playing WvW. Yes, you can play the game any way you like. No, everything in the game will not be handed to you.

Wanting different methods of getting stuff so you can engage in activities you enjoy in a game is hardly entitlement, which BTW is the most misused word on the internet these days.

It is when your baseline is lower then the lowest common denominator. As it pains me to say this, crafting is the lowest common denominator in the game- Because it funnels wealth and supplies from all aspects of the game toward its self-justifying purpose of being one of several interlinked money sinks in the game. As a result, it has a singular barrier for entry….. the ability to generate wealth and access to spirit shards; both of which are available in ALL game modes. Everything else you simply buy off the TP, causing you to participate in money sinks designed for PvE, and the supplies it can generate.

Its mechanically fair, as you’re not denied access for not participating in another game mode. Legendarys are also mechanically fair, because it involved all major content in version 1 of the game, or could bypass it entirely by simply trading for one.

So really the only forced requirement for max stat gear (ascended) is a zero skill challenge activity (crafting), whose purpose is a wealth sink, and gives only marginal bonuses to all but one game mode, and that one excluded game modes doesn’t even make use of it, but feel that the barrier needs to be lowered further because you’re questioning the efficiency of a system purposely designed to be anything but efficient- all because you want the slightly higher stat number then the rest of the system operates off of….. Yeah, qualifies as entitlement.

If your argument was simply “Ascended gear costs too much too produce”, I’d agree with you completely, and list reasons why. But of all the issues Ascended gear has, having crafting as a reliable method of producing them is NOT of one of those issues.

Given the time and costs associated with actually making the ascended armor, the armor should have the same benefits as legendary gear. By this I mean the stats should be set freely by the user. Leave the ‘standard’ ascended armor to the pieces that are obtained randomly throughout the world.

Multiple reliable means of access is a meaningful difference.

One example is cosmetic only (and so completely subjective in terms of merit) while the other involves objective superiority. Another meaningful difference.

One involves a, “zero skill challenge,” task while the other requires some non zero skill challenge. Also a meaningful difference.

Nope. There are two independent reliable sources of those. For ascended weapons and armour there is only crafting (RNGesus makes depending on drops highly unreliable).

It still doesn’t change the fact that a player that decides that he doesn’t want to pvp or run dungeons will never get dungeon skins. It’s the same exact argument. There is no meaningful difference.

The original complaint was that the op doesn’t want to craft but wants ascended armor and feels that he should be able to obtain ascended armor by playing what he enjoys playing. This is the same as a player that doesn’t want to pvp or run dungeons saying he should be able to get dungeon skins from WvW. To say otherwise is trying to argue for the sake of arguing.

It is not the same. Do dungeon armors have the best stats in the game?

You made a claim about meaningful difference. Examples were provided. If you cannot support your position then feel free to argue about arguing for the sake of arguing instead of speaking to the facts.

Fact stands in both situations the complaint is that something in the game can not be obtained because you can’t be bothered to do the required content. In that sense there is no difference that is meaningful to that topic. Your comprehension skills are not my problem and I really can’t be bothered to break everything down in layman’s terms for you.

As someone that has maxed out all crafting profession, I’ve always been a bit frustrated that I can’t sell my Ascended gear on the Trading Post and make some money back that it cost me to get them all up to lvl 500 in the first place.

Plus many of my guild mates are newer to the game and with the current cost of mats I would like very much to be able to help them out and craft there gear for them.

It really has never made sense to me that Ascended gear was account bound on aquire/creation. The argument that it cost karma/laurels, etc. to make them is valid but if we can sell legendaries on the TP that aren’t used by a character, then why doesn’t that same logic carry over to Ascended gear. As long as the gear isn’t equipped let it be sold.

As people have said before they would be willing to spend money on buying it, so why not give those of us that want to make it for them, the ability to help them out.

Seems like a win-win for everyone. ANet gets a gold sink from every trading post sale, the sellers make back some or all of what they spent on leveling up there crafting and the buyers get what they want without the annoyance of doing the crafting they hate.

The only reason i am playing this is to put more ascended weapons and armors on my 45 level 80 characters. If you don’t want to craft..don’t. Feel free to buy the exotic version. The +5 to stats is no way game breaking. A lot of people have maxed out crafting just so they could min-max the game. It gives people a long term goal and a reason for playing the game.

I believe the new legendaries are actually account bound on acquire. So they are definitely moving away from “buy everything from the TP”

Actually, a player that only wants to pvp will get those skins more easily that one that runs dungeons. And reward tracks were introduced specifically because pvp players did not want to PvE. If that was a sound argument then, i don’t see why other people cannot argue alongside similar lines now.

I just wish that crafting ascended wasn’t such a pain in the butt. At least take the timer off of crafting the mats.

I second this. The worst part of ascended crafting is the time-gating. I’m not even sure why it exists. Maybe its just to get people to log in daily to craft 1 ascended material, but we have logon rewards now.

Obviously it’s because PvE players did not argue for this possibility loud and long enough yet.

Bottom line is that anyone should be able to have access to best gear without being forced to do something you don’t like (if i can buy it at TP, even expensive it is fine).

This here we call entitlement. The same argument could be used for anything – “I don’t like doing x content, but I want the reward for x content. This is not fair!”.

no.no it’s not. It’s called Guild Wars 1. Where armor value didn’t matter at max level but your skill level and build did. The problem is, is that we don’t want grinding and we don’t want to or have the need to grind for max stat armor

And you dont have to as you play you will get weapon and armor boxes that you can turn into what ever you like.

You’re missing the point – that’s not what this thread is about. Ascended gear and top stats are another topic altogether, this is strictly about the method of acquisition. I’d have a thing or two to say about ascended in general, but this isn’t the discussion for it. This is about there being only one way of getting ascended weapons and armor without relying on random drops. Which, I should mention, was the order of day in GW1 – if you wanted a specific set of armor, you had to get the materials for it and pay the crafter.

Only fools and heroes charge in without a plan.
