No. With season 3, they made the maps a component of the episode. Attempting to join it when you don’t have it would be like a free player trying to get into HoT. You’ll simply be ported out.
‘Teleport to a Friend’ works for characters that don’t have Season 3 maps when, at least, one character on the account has accessed the maps. I’ve used them a few times.
Of course, if you’ve not unlocked the Episode, I’d guess they would not work. Not sure about having unlocked the Episode, but not yet played through the Story on any character (and, of course, one must own HoT).
