I’ve heard a few things about the utility skills of Revenants being locked to your current legend. if that is indeed the plan then it’d mean that racial skills would be inaccessible. If that is the case, perhaps in it’s place, Racial Legends could be a thing?
And yes, I understand that’d mean certain races may have an advantage over others, but considering things like Avatar of Melandru and Charzooka provide a race-based set of skills, along with the Engie’s tool belt, I can safely assume this won’t break the game too much.
There’s been plenty of speculation without me adding to it, but I prefer to think this thread more of a niche-focused back-up plan should utility skills be locked and racial skills redundant… here’s some suggestions anyway, based off popular consensus, feel free to add your own

There’s no point.
Racials are deliberately garbage, and have no right to even be in the game at this point. They probably realize that, so they just don’t care about giving racials to Revenants. And they really shouldn’t.
What kind of mind even concocts the idea in the first place to waste resources adding something to the game that you don’t intend for anyone to actually use.
Those things are just pure, un-diluted insanity.
If I were to give them credit, my best guess is that they’re a relic from before they realized what a problem they would pose for balance. Rather than delete them, they left them in purely for flavor/RP while nerfing them down to functional uselessness.

Racials are intended to not be great, so it does not cause some kind of meta-race thing. Races are a cosmetic and story choice, not game-play.

Yeah but… this isn’t a thread discussing the viability of the current Racial Skills, it’s about replacing them with a more effective Revenant equivalent.
So, let’s not derail the subject and get angsty about something that’s gonna be completely irrelevant in practice, mh? atta boy.

It is relevant. Racials are useless for a very good reason. Meaning any new ones would also have to be useless.
And adding new abilities that aren’t meant to actually be used would be a bit ridiculous.

Who knows? maybe Racial Skills will be fixed so they present more value. Anything is possible with HoT, and with that note we conclude the part about Racial Skills and more onto the actual subject at hand;
If Racial Skills aren’t available to Revenants, what could replace them? do Racial Legends seem like a working idea, and what legends would be best suited from the lore?

Except racial skills are handicapped for the very reason that races are not intended to be a game-play decision. That would not be different for racial legends.

I think they’ll probably either have an elite skill bound to each legend, or a set of them bound to each legend. Racial “Legend” elite skills seem pointless at this time.

Except racial skills are handicapped for the very reason that races are not intended to be a game-play decision. That would not be different for racial legends.
in PvE, races ARE a game-play decision, otherwise they wouldnt offer the Racial Skills in the first place, would they?
The only place where race doesn’t matter is in WvW/PvP, where racial skills are removed to be fairer on the players.
Currently I’m playing Charr and having lots of fun using the Charrzooka, I love the skill and I think it helps fill in the parts of my playstyle where I’m a little less potent. So don’t tell me race means nothing friend, because it does
Anyway, people are sticking with the mindset of “Racial Skills are useless therefore anything relating to race is useless.” So, guess that wraps up the consensus here, Racial Legends aren’t viable, according to you guys

I know racials are supposed to be useless but they’re not – because sometimes profession abilities are even more useless. I may have actually used my Sylvari racial elites more than profession ones for some of my characters – particularly my guardian. Tome of wrath isn’t dreadful but sometimes an extra pet is more useful.
Race-locked legends though? My immediate reaction was no, they’d never consider that. It would introduce a balance issue to race, which they otherwise don’t have to worry about.
However…. they could do it if each race had access to its own legend but the utilities were identical in effect and different only in name and visual effect.
For example, if there was a pet summon, humans could get a clockwork, asura a golem, sylvari a fern hound, norn a bear and charr a charr (from the legend’s warband). All pets could have identical stats.
The obvious downside though is it could make other professions jealous, because revenants would have more useful racials.
I think the other idea (suggested elsewhere) of a revenant spec which has a legend for each of the player races is a better idea. Nothing would be restricted by player race but you could choose to play your own race’s legend.

And racial abilities working in wvw. Norn has huge advantage over other races as they can go invisible in leopart form with any class and run away from the fight – i did it many times myself on a guard. But thats elite skill on really high cd.

If revenants do have racials I would expect them to use energy instead of cooldowns. And sometimes racials are more useful than your profession abilities. Depends on what you’re doing.

They are deliberately worst than normal skills and that would probably apply doubly so for Revenants. A cooldown, weak, racial utility skill? Or my powerful, well synergized, no cooldown/energy cost profession utility skill.
I suspect the system they are going with is simply that certain utility skills are only available for their matching Legend. Racial skills could be global skills available under every Legend.
Just for fun of course, because realistically they are terrible to slot and unavailable in spvp.
I believe you can select which utility skill you want in which slot. For example they might have had Vengeful Hammers in slot #8. But maybe I want to put it in slot #9.
It’s just that the pool of selectable utility skills is limited to 3. But in which order you put them, is up to your personal preference.

Hint hint; arrows above utilities. Also they said its not set up in the stone yet. Personally i hope we wont be able to mix skills between legends as at this point “legendary stances” makes no sense anymore. I can already imagine ppl setting utility 1 to endlessy remove conditions, utility 2 to endlessy rip boons, utility 3 to endlessy stun break and swap to another legend for best bursts utilities.
Allowing revenant to put racials instead of legends skills is a good idea and i bet its going to end up this way. And why they would use energy instead of cd? Revenant is not a special snowflake. Also outside of that norn ability in wvw which i mentioned above i never found other racials to be useful.

My question is, why would Shiro be the Racial Legend? He was a bad man! If this was to be a thing, we’d be more likely to get Turai Ossa or Prince Rurik, or the 3 people that helped take down Shiro (Vizu, Archemorus and Saint Viktor)TWICE! Than Shiro!

I agree for the most part with OP my differentials would be for human it would key in with you registry of nationality which I have had a little trouble with it should have been more specific to your faction if Canthan if Elonan would you be Vabbian Kournan or Istani and based on those answers the racial legend would be determined for example
Human /Luxon/Archemorous…Human /Kaineng City/Vizu ..Human /Kurzick/St Viktor
the other would be Asura I would think Vekk or MOX would be more legendary

I enjoy Racials. I honestly want more,. They may be weak, but they have a purpose in unique builds. And they fun. The OP idea makes a lot of sense.
