Raid Spectator Mode [Suggestion]
I like the idea, but I’ve heard it before for other games and the main problem that always comes up is that it will make raids easier if you have a dedicated raid leader that is just spectating and doesn’t have to worry about dodging attacks himself/herself. To compensate you would have to make the spectators lag behind, and that in turn means much more coding effort and load on the servers (I guess).
Also there are plenty of raid videos on YouTube that do more or less the same thing.

Spectating and watching a video isn’t anything close to the same experience. A lot of people won’t watch vids; more would spectate.
I hadn’t thought about the possibility of a raid leader using VoIP + spectate. I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a bad thing. People still have to learn and execute the mechanics.
I love the idea!
Had something similar in mind a few months ago

^ This puts it well. I’d appreciate the chance to see others raiding live, especially being able to fly around and observe the fight from different angles which a video doesn’t provide. And being able to hear their commentary would another dimension – the videos I’ve been able to find so far haven’t provided much commentary on what’s actually happening or why. I find the idea of the leader staying out of the fight actually appealing. It makes military sense, in a way making the raid more realistic.
Would be a really great nice feature. Just like Pvp spectating.
I don’t know if this is already been suggested, but when you die during raid it would be nice for the dead to follow one of the team mates as a spectator. Because otherwise you just lie there with nothing else to do.
most of the time it is only a problem in the third wing during first event. makes you want to tab out and write a post in the forum about ^^

I got vaguely excited by the title.
It would actually be really cool / informative to have a mode where players can watch raiders in real time.

That would be pretty cool! Just head to the aerodome and queue up for spectator mode on a current raid. We could watch, and learn, in real time. Useful for downtime between farm runs, events or content dry spells.
well actually that is a good idea too

I think that very few people would be against having this in the game, but in the end it’s likely just not worth the development time for the amount of use it would realistically see.
Although I agree with this idea and it was suggested before BUT I see one reason why AN might not want this feature. With this you can always have 1 more person being outside raid watching and calling mechanics which will be like 11th person in raid.
And should it be like you could watch anyone? or you have to be invited to spectate? I can see some groups not wanting to be watched by random ppl

As I said in the previous thread suggesting this , that’s hardly a major issue. The 11th person has to give up their time and won’t get any of the rewards.

They’d have to make it “opt in” only, meaning spectating only if the squad leader allowed it (or perhaps only if everyone in the squad allowed it).
I like the idea.
But….
Isnt this something that the community can already do, sort of, for itself by recording raid runs and posting to youtube?
Another option to reduce ‘maintenance’ of invite lists would be to tie it to a guild. My guild does raid runs and if guild members would be allowed to spectate, that should be OK I would think and maybe be a simple switch the guild/squad leader could make rather than having to deal with lots of individual invites.

Raid videos only show one perspective. And half the time they’re set to really trashy music and/or the overly hyper git on his headset won’t shut up. Won’t doubt there are some decent training videos out there as well, but it’d be nice to have a broader view of raids as a training tool.

I love this idea, this way you can learn the ‘’how too’’ raid

I have yet to see a raid video that was helpful to me in learning more (2 minute excerpts: yes; actual vids? no). It takes a lot of time to make a good video.
Spectator mode offers the possibility of real time feedback over VoIP and can be slowed down to cover specific elements of the experience.
That twitch.tv though.
I stream all my raiding, training and progressive. Just about anyone with a decent net can do it too, just gotta convince them.
