dude go read the freaking ranger forums or the CDI.

You think I have time to type out all the problems and flaws with rangers?

I’m not wasting time explaining it to someone when its already out there in the forums.

Again, I know ranger works in PvP ( I have a champion hunter title…)but its not good against high MMR team arenas. You HARDLY see it in tournaments. Why? because its simple – classes do everything ranger can do, except better.

I never said rangers couldn’t use a buff or that they are underpowered. i said they arent fundamentally flawed and broken. the former suggests needing a buff. The latter suggests they are unplayable, and that just isn’t the case.

Yes, sorry, but they are not broken. They are playable, and can indeed contribute to the game. Are they a little weak and need a buff? Probably. But considering its still a well-represented class in the game overall, it’s not ruined like you seem to be suggesting.

Actually fundamentally flawed and or broken doesn’t mean unplayable at all. Humans all have flaws and yet we function, we also break ourselves in many ways and yet life persists. There are broken mechanics in classes and they are still playable, there are flaws in every class and they are still playable, Rangers just seem to have the biggest flaws and broken mechanics. No one needs to provide you with anything, if you’re curious go take a gander at the Ranger forum posts both new and old.

Unplayable means unplayable.

You do realize there is a saying in each of the other class forums

“at least we aren’t rangers”

You think other classes have a broken class mechanic as rangers do?
Why do you think Ranger CDI was the first? because it requires the most rework due to the fact its been broken for 3+ years. Other classes haven’t had problems dealing with a broken class mechanic and completely mediocre builds since GW2 was released.
Yes other classes do complain, most about balancing and asking for more variety in their builds….rangers have that AND broken classmechanic/countless bugs SINCE BETA

You need to stop acting as if majority of the ranger population is happy

Majority of them are also bearbow casuals since most of the good players have switched classes.. You think these bearbow casuals care or even know what the bugs are and whats broken? No. pew pew pew.

How often do you see rangers in high rank MMR team que or world tournaments?
They have been below avg to mediocre in most areas of this game. If you are “happy” with that, so be it. Others aren’t. Stop speaking for rangers. You clearly haven’t played this class long enough to realize what the problems are.

I’ve been playing a Ranger since the pre-release/early access/whatever stuff. It’s really a mediocre class overall. I’m having a little bit more fun with it now than I used to (kind of lost interest in favor of a regen warrior build for a while), but that’s probably because I’m super hyped about the Druid class, despite the fact that I only know that they use a staff.

I mainly play PVE/PVM and some WvW. I’ve never played PvP and don’t intend to because it feels like it would be rather unforgiving and walled off to crappy noobs like me; I get enough “‘Dude, you are like rlly bad’, ‘Like rlly bad’” in WvW already.

Generally, in PVE/PVM/Dungeons/WvW I’m always the last person alive, and I feel that’s generally because the class doesn’t really have any support capabilities/useful skills so I can focus less on skill management and more on trying to do damage and not dying.

This argument rests on the idea that there’s only limited time available for testing/finetuning, while profession balancing/finetuning is an ungoing thing.

It’s quite possible they’re more confident about the last two specs, considering how they featured in the initial trailer. Regardless, previous experience shows us that all professions and specs will see more finetuning based on feedback leading up to, and after release.

Seeing how another BWE was just announced, it seems that a large part motivating the OP to write this post is their desire to play their Elite spec in the upcoming BWE.

It doesn’t matter how confident they are in the specs given how horribly some of the past changes in both classes have missed their marks. The players who have been playing the classes extensively in the game and against other players are the ones who need to be confident in the specs, and we can’t be that until we get to do those things. And if things aren’t working, we get the smallest window possible to get our feedback in, playtest the changes, and hopefully fine tune everything the way Chronomancer, Reaper, DH, Tempest and Revenant are getting changed and fine tuned. Staggering the reveals like this leaves certain classes at a disadvantage, and it sucks if you play those classes and it sucks even more that it’s the classes that tend to be more broken/get less attention in general.

Also, nice of you to cast aspersions on the OP. Of course they want to play their Elite specs- it’s the only way to ensure that they aren’t total kitten by the time HoT comes out. Before this announcement, we had no idea when the next BWE would be and who would be included/excluded, so anticipating this scenario would have required an uncle who works at Anet or precognition.

If they are “confident” in the classes then why wouldn’t they put them in beta already? Because they’re not finished? I’d be hesitant to express confidence in something that is unfinished. I’m sure they are taking their time though. It’d just be nice to have a chance to provide enough feedback. The ranger forum has tons and tons of feedback on bugs and whatnot that haven’t been addressed for years.

People are just worried that presumably what little time they have to test the spec won’t be sufficient. Ranger mains feel neglected as usual.

It’s all speculation how far along the remaining two are, I’m sure Anet has their reason, whatever it may be. We don’t need to agree with it, it’s a closed beta, not an open beta, not a pre-release, it’s not uncommon for parts to be gradually added to closed betas as they become ready to test.

People don’t need to agree with it, but anet needs them to agree with their wallets, which many players are reluctant to do until they see these specs. It’s not like these two classes have great track records. Speculation as to how far the specs are coming along is irrelevant.

There are two possibilities. If the classes are ready then why aren’t they in the beta so people can at least give the feedback, regardless of if anything is done with it. If the classes aren’t ready, it just worries people even more that they will be rushed to meet whatever deadline is set and the feedback that is given will be ineffective.

As someone who hasn’t purchased the xpac believe me when I say they need to convince me. My purchase of the xpac rests solely on the last two specializations, I am willing to wait and see though. These two classes have very niche roles in most game play, if they can break them out of that shell and it takes more time, then I’m ok with that.

Lets be perfectly honest the majority of the people complaining probably wouldn’t give feedback they might say this class sucks or this class is great but most won’t give any valid reason beyond being unhappy because it didn’t 1 shot that thing that 1 time. It’s a gimme gimme gimme scenario, of course this doesn’t apply to all but I’m willing to bet it’s the case for most even if they stomp their feet insisting that they want to test them. The people who will truly test are typically the ones who realized that testing a (possibly) unfinished product is counter productive and will wait until they are ready to be tested.

The sad fact about all this is I rarely agree with anything Anet does and am quite vocal about it, but for Engi & Ranger, they need to get it right this time so take as long as you need Anet.

Most other profession elite specs will have had 2 beta weekends’ worth of play time over Druids and whatever the Engi elite is. I’ve pre-purchased just like anyone else, so why can’t I play my Druid at the same time others can play their elite specs?

It’ s your fault. You shouldn’ t have spent money on something that you don t know.
You ve spent your money and druid will be bad since ranger been bad for 3 years.

What’s the alternative though?

  • ANet postpones offering game play with any elite specs until all of them are ready for BETA? Then we go through 2-3 BWEs without the option to try any of them.
  • ANet postpones delivery of the expansion, so that there are plenty of BWEs covering the last two elites.
  • ANet prevents people from playing mesmer etc from the final BWE, so that the last two classes can have parity with the first few.

Do any of those sound better than what we already have?
