I understand the thematic reasoning for a lot of the design for this specialization – particularly the slow animation frames for high damage numbers trade off. Right now, it feels as though the slow frames are there, but the damage is not; high risk, not so high reward.

The chilling scythe attack on the greatsword 1 skill chain is difficult to reliably hit on many occasions; spotted beetles and teragriffs to name a few. Enemies that have high mobility, specific states to which they can be damaged, or some measure of cc seem to create a lot of down time. I find myself for the majority of many fights trying to recover from a spot where I am unable to reach or hit the enemy. Often times doing so puts me in a position that makes me take more damage than perhaps another weapon set would incur, but without any reasonable damage to justify. I think it would be a fair improvement to see the damage on chilling scythe increased.

I have mixed feelings about gravedigger. Against above 50% hp enemies it seems to get used maybe once or none at all – but against below 50% hp enemies there is hardly a reason to use anything else. Is the idea then, to use all of my other skills to survive until my enemies are below 50%, and then just spam 2? The cooldown becomes so absurdly low that I usually only only have enough time to cast one skill before its up again. If everything else is on cooldown, I usually end up casting Dusk Strike then back into gravedigger and repeat (probably my OCD but it just bothers me to cast 1/3 of a chain and abandon it). Would it be reasonable to increase the cooldown of gravedigger slightly and compensate elsewhere?

I really like GS skills 3-5, and would like to see the cooldowns on some of those skills reduced. On a set which boasts a high risk theme – one could suggests that risk comes with failure, it would be nice to have the option to recover from these failures sooner. This is especially true of the nightfall skill, which is one of the few options reapers appear to have for sitting and tanking on the front line.
I know there is a trait for it but that trait is gravedigger dependent and furthermore limits build diversity.

The reaper shroud is amazing, I like everything about it and my only complaint is that it usually lasts for only a few seconds due to the fact that I’m a light armor class sitting on the front line.

There’s a lot of potential for necromancer’s with this specialization – but I think its important to note that the skills we are given force us – a very squishy and low mobility class – to actively chase danger rather than avoid it. There is little we have to mitigate or reduce this damage compared to other classes that function similarly, so when we are able to dish out damage, it should feel rewarding and effective.

I am in agreement with that article! I have heard though that the axe and scepter set are being looked at for improvements, at the very least….

I was opening up with warhorn #4 & 5 or Focus #5 then to GS #4 and #3 followed by RS#1 spam and then back to Gravedigger for the finish. With all that applied vuln and all that might along with chilled opponents things went rather well.

This article pretty much summed everything up perfectly. They didn’t even dig into the problems with the elite specialization specifically though… extremely miniscule chill duration despite our only survival traits in reaper being dependent on chill, even more fragile reaper shroud, still lack of utilities in shroud, slow and un-landable attacks with GS, still kitten mobility, shouts having cast times, signet passives not working in shroud, RS #2 not stopping at our target, terrible life force generation both in and outside of shroud, and still the persistent lack of active defenses. Something’s got to give here.

I have to say, I really liked necromancer. I was using Blood to stay alive as is my want and opted out of soul reaping, so I missed out on wraith form a bit more. I also love the new mechanic of chilling and it dealing extra damage while stacking vuln. I set myself up to be a chill monster while seconding with staff. That being said, I played only in PVE and I don’t know that gs would be effective in PVP at all. Even the trait that gives greatsword life siphon isn’t super great and the cooldown for other skills seems negligible, especially since gravedigger can get an 80%. Since the Greatsword is so slow the life siphon seems only useful to supplement Blood Magic (maybe worthwhile on skill 3 on gs) and personally, I would love to get more opportunities with gs skill 4 as that just lets me wade into enemies like a lunatic. I think perhaps just a solid reduced recharge rate for Greatsword might be in order for that trait. That being said, I continually used the extra crit % trait against vulnerable instead, all day. I do think there needs to be more reward with gravedigger, even if it’s just more damage, as it’s very slow and I feel like that’s what you were aiming for. I was doing ok living in a few of my wells, but I imagine especially in PVP that’s going to be very easy to dodge and would be more worthwhile to spam 1. I do enjoy the new elite in PVP as well

Brazil usually has good insight on all things Necromancer. Video summed up has some valid points – its very fun to play but ultimately falls short on DPS. 9K on greatsword DPS and 7K in reaper shroud; he compares this to the 10k of the dagger/x builds. Though its also mentioned that one of the grandmaster traits was not working properly. Even if the greatsword DPS does come somewhat close to daggers, dagger builds suffer less from down time, since I can get more hits in a shorter amount of time than I can on a greatsword. Daggers also have the benefit of blood magic traits such as vampiric / vampiric presence, which I would hesitate to use with GS due to slow attack speed and lowered utility on fewer enemies.
