Hi fellow players.
We have seen the first of a set of developer introductions and well vague talks about the upcoming HoT expansion.
People are enthousiast at first seeing about 80% postive threads, but noiw a week and a useless livestream later we see more negatative threads… Mods are cleaning fanatically.
Problem is sad: it is people thinking they can complaiin about everything even though they haven’t had any play time on an unknown expansion..,
ArenaNet wants to make this realease a big happening. It’s about the continued existance of GW2.They want to make sure everybody knows there will be an expansion, and we will get it end Q2, start Q3. (well I would have been completely overwhelmed if some developer would say It is payed but you can download it from this moment on during the next gaming convention. It would be awesome, but unrealistic.)
The Q2, Q3 is late IMHO, I’d prefer to see a download available within weeks after the 2nd PAX thingy, but I doubt this will be happening. They will probably announce the date, which is way to far ahead anyways as most people have been begging for and x-pac for over a year now. They’ll probably say we have another race, and some other things.
Seeing it: if they’d shown everything why bother going to other gaming events?
Seeing this and knowing the devs need to lift a lot more veils, so It might be wiser to not be negative all the time. The fact you all are waiting and it takes long doesn’t need to make the community having to suffer all this toxic waste? I’ve seen at least 10-15 threads deleted/closed in the last couple of days.
If they do not have anything more to add now this would be the most crappy xpac in gaming history. Just a few area’s, well you can jump and not fall to your death, but other then a new map for wvw and a gaming mde for PvP and 1 proffession it would be severely lacking. I love the idea of expanding the powers of my character by specializing ‘m. Still it would be so lacking I couldn’t believe it.
Mursaat were on the ring of fire in gw1. I saw mursaat. I am wondering if we get to ascend ourselves, Which was the main story line in the crystal desert before, we saw a preview in the LS of the ascension…. I’m missing Dungeons. Anyone remembering Vekk’s lair? We might even encounter M.O.X. Or what was the dungeon in the Ring of Fire?? remember? It was one of the endgame dungeons… Lorewise it cannot be completely forgotten? or can it?
So I do NOT beleive this is everything. If this would be everything I doubt they would make much profit. At least not compared to the anual planning we saw floating on the site. So remain hopefull. They need to have the best things still up their sleeves.
So still expecting race(s), dungeon, More area, not ONLY the jungle. Some poeple already wrote lore dictates 6 dragons. if they are going to release things 1 dragon at a time with intervals of 3 years we still need to wait 12 years for the living story and the battle for the 6th dragon… It would be foolish to expect them developers not to work towards a " better structured closing".
I expect some weapons. some other things whcih are not yet spoken of…
I just hope people could wait and see when they feel negative, and if they feel positive share their feelings. Hoping to read many constructive and happy threads. 6 months is quite some time… to launch something. all the events they need something new…. ALL!
Else the Hypretrain will come to a halt. And I doubt A-Net will let it happen…. So Just get a sandwitch onboard the HypeTrain…And continue to next station.
I have much faith in the dev team and the upcoming expansion… really! And I’m, looking forward to another 2-3 years of amazement and entertainment. I know we will be happy once we’re at the end-station of this Hype Trains Travel,.

They have already mentioned in more than one interview that yes, this is everything.

But they also only have vague descriptions of each feature, we’re still waiting on them explaining everything in full detail so we can see how big each thing actually is. As it stands, many people are complaining about bullet points.

I think people are merely voicing their first impressions is all. Whether this is negative or positive will be moot when the expansion comes out.
And then you will read some truly negative posts because someone will be disappointed regardless.
That’s just life on forums.

There’s also a population on these forums who’s primary purpose is to talk about how the game is doomed for any variety of reasons.
From that point of view, a negative opinion of vaguely announced upcoming plans is entirely in character.
They’ve said it’s every “major” feature. That leaves a ton of room for “minor” ones that might end up being things that really please a lot of players. Who knows? One reason they’re doing a longer lead time with lot of info posts promised is so player feedback can affect the final shape of HoT. Which is exactly what many forum posters have requested, right? (Despite some now saying “it’s too long a lead, I’ll get bored waiting.”)
It could be there will be some less than stellar things in the offing — we can constructively critique those as they are revealed, and likely have an impact. Back in Beta tons of things got suggested by the community that made it into later beta weekends and then into the game. E.g. having a local /say that wasn’t map wide, having custom emotes, changing mesmer portals so they didn’t automatically work on anyone.
Because mesmers were having tooooo much fun sliding groups of afk people all over the terrain to odd spots and little islands.

How about just being kitten patient? Ofc they won’t release every bit of information at once. Are you all new to the internet? Then welcome, kids.

They have already mentioned in more than one interview that yes, this is everything.
And yet what they have said is nothing more than: This system will be added. This region will be added. This profession will be added. This map will be added in WvW. This game mode will be added in sPvP.
There is a grand total of no actual information what all these things include.

I’ve nothing to complain, except for the revenant currently due to the lack of information
I really hope, that the first so called “Deep Dive” will be about them, so that this conceptual junk without hands and feet gets the needed information told to us to make this class plausible at least, so that Anet will explain all of the loopholes and lore gaps, that this “non-profession” has will go after it just “poof”.
There’s alot to explain, especially around how we start the game with this thing, regarding our Personal Story, how it can be, that out of nowhere will exist right at the launch of HoT millions of new Revenants, which simply can’t be teached all by just 1 single person (iE. Rytlock), what makes no sense… Rytlock has better things to do than to teach millions of people how to become in no time some kind of supernatural “undead” (because thats what literally Revenants are!!) which are able to control the powers of the mist, as if they would have never done anything else before in their “life” cough
There is naturally to explain alot more about their whole Gameplay, Skills ,Traits and so on , so that we can understand better, how this Class will functionize later and how Anet wants to ensure, that this new thing does’t start right off as super overpowered, that is required to receive directly first several times some serious hits from the Nerf Hammer to get up in line with the existing professions.
As I’ve said it with my first postign after the HoT Introduction, i find basically 99% of this Expansion awesome, but Revenants is just the 1 %, thats currently a “thorn” in my eyes (haha word joke xD)

The problem is the same as usual, we have no idea on when it comes, how much it costs and have no idea on what will be in it. We only have descriptions of ‘new pvp map, borderlands map, guild halls, unknown amount of new zones, unknown amount of new personal story, unknown subclass-system, unknown new class mechanics’.
Will we get a season 3? or a new feature pack? Will we still get new (small) content updates before the expansion pack hits?
We don’t even have information about what will happen for people who don’t buy the expansion. Will base game only people still be able to wvw when the new borderlands are active? If so then why is it even an ‘expansion’ feature and not a ‘feature pack’ feature? Will the subclasses be balanced with the non subclasses (so that in pvp/wvw the ranger has an equal chance when fighting druid, etc…)? How customizable will guild halls be? Will the new maps have ‘zone completion rewards’ (all new maps are lacking those).
And it’s not like he Living World was all that great. An unintresting (and at some points badly told) story that didn’t make much sense and didn’t bother explaining core ideas of the story (like why is that egg so important to our character? How did our char knew mordy’s name? Why did my ‘order of whispers’ character turn to the priory for help (you’re seriously saying order of whispers has no knowledge of their own and no spies in the priory?). Or how about the fact that the explanation of (when scarlet was roaming the world) we had to find a specific form post to understand of why certain alliances (like the toxic alliance) were even there?
So with the Living world not being all that great to many people and no idea on how big the EP will be (just that not to many major features will be in there) and only 1 subclass per class. People fear the worst… (Anet always promising great things and not always delivering doesn’t really help.
As for me: I’m not really complaining, but at the same time I’m not getting any hopes up until we (finally) get more info.

Can’t we all just agree that Anet really sucks at announcing “important” stuff….I mean come on they been workning on this stuff for a long time. It’s not like they are going to do a 180 turn and be like…“naaah kitten that lets redo everything”. People have been craving this for ages and when they finally decide to deliver they just gives us some really really super really vague idea of whats coming. I’m not exited at all, im just mainly annoyed over this…

Do you also complain when an announcement/teaser of a movie doesn’t tell you exactly what will happen in said movie?

No, not really. I’m just saying that they should have told us about the little stuff to.

The people who are negative are a minority right now and the negative threads are mostly started by the same people who want to prove a point.
Most people are either positive or would rather see more details before giving their opinion about the matter.

I need some more details myself. The hype train is starting to slow a bit.

I just hope people could wait and see when they feel negative, and if they feel positive share their feelings.
I would like to respectfully point out the hypocrisy of this stance. As you pointed out, no one has played the expansion yet. So why then are those who are skeptical asked to keep their feelings to themselves while those who are excited are encouraged to voice their excitement here? There’s not much room for discussion if the only people allowed to post are those who agree with each other.

It’s mostly because a fair few of the negative threads and comments include false information and baseless claims.
Common complaints:
Expansion pack is too small. Yet we don’t have all of the information on the pack, just the main bullet points.
Specialisations will just be “upgrade and be OP”. Ignoring the fact that the specialisations remove some of the base class abilities and traits and the new abilities and traits cannot be used unless you stay in the specialisation.
Just one specialisation. For now, they’ve stated in an interview or two that they’re using this system to add more in the future so we’ll likely see more skills and traits added to the game more regularly because of this.
And so on.
It always amuses me when I see people complaining about people complaining

See that’s the problem.
The first hours of hype train were created by the people, the presentation was targeting.
People who never question anything and are happy with whatever is thrown at them doesn’t matter how bad.
Usually the guys who run in circles at EOTM 24/7.
But after some time the reasonable people pop up and start asking questions.
Something like: Wait a moment… Guild Halls, Maguuma Jungle and all that Jazz should have been there from the beginning. Also we don’t get new weapons, we just get luke warm already existing weapons and skills.
A-Net is asking for money for stuff that should have been there from beginning.
It’s like a car dealer did sell you the GW1 car and you are absolutely happy.
Now you learn that there is the GW2 car and you are totally hyped.
When coming home from the dealer you figure out that this car has no tires or doors and no windshield.
Sure you can drive on the rims and freeze while driving but you can drive.
And this is the fanboy argument.“i don’t know why you are complaining, you can drive”
After 2 years the Car Dealer makes an announcement.
We are proud to announce that we are putting a package together that includes rubber tires, a windshield and doors.
Fanboys: yeahhhh………. finally, take my money
But the regular guys will ask them self …. wait a minute, the GW1 car was incredible.
Why the heck do i get a product like the GW2 now ???? I am totally disappointed with the Car dealer.
Asking now for money for features my GW1 had anyways is kinda insulting.
Not to mention they removed everything that was really cool at the GW1 model.
And even then… the GW2 car still isn’t even close to complete.
I was expecting the Cantha rally stripes and the Elona custom colors……
But they just announced the doors and tires……. this stinks.
This is why more and more negative threads popping up.
People are just angry since 2 years. And they are confronted now with paying money
for something that should have been there from beginning.
I am one of these persons, i stopped enjoying after the personal story when i learned that they canceled all the cool monster variety and replaced it with clone zombie crap.
Also leaving the best parts of the map empty wasn’t helping to connect with the game.
This is why A-Net’s target group is always new and very young gamers.
These guys n gals don’t ask akward questions.
People want it all. People are more likely to post when they’re upset rather than when they’re happy. People don’t realize that on these forums they are actually the minority of the player population regardless of how “loud” they are. Nothing has changed.

The only complaint I have about this expansion is how they’re communicating the details.
Anet’s policy is to not mention anything until it’s ready. At Pax South they said they were ready to talk about the expantion and it’s features…and they still aren’t talking about it. They had the hall for an hour and a half and only used half of it. What they did talk about could have included a lot more information but they chose not to.
Instead we have to wait 3 weeks from the announcement before they’ll even consider telling us more.
It would have been much better for them to go straight from the reveal into the deep dives the same week. Or at the least give us a time table of what will be talked about and when like they do for the feature packs. Heck, they won’t even come on the forums to play guessing games with us.
So yeah, another couple weeks of silence while we know nothing about what’s going on in the game. Can’t say I’m a fan of how they communicate things.
I think it says a lot that people are so passionate — in either direction. I enjoy the game, but I’m not falling out of my chair to know more about the expansion when I know its so far off that we don’t have a release date yet.
I can get worked up about it later. right now the amount of information available is slightly better than trolling the audience, but only slightly. I’m confident they won’t overshoot the mark on what I’ll be willing to pay for what they’ll deliver, but we haven’t really seen what’s on offer or what it will cost.

The thing I don’t understand is why people who are so passionate about disliking every part of the game are so active on the forum. Seems self-defeating.

This! ive never gotten that! on any forum! and i dont know if you can mention other games, but theres one in particular, that has world in its name, and invovlves tanks, and their forum is exactly the same!
My general rule of thumb is if you dont like anything about the game, then stop playing the game, dont sit there and complain about it, especially if its in the games core set up.
I dont know how many complaints ive seen in game about people being unable to sit in one spot and kill things.
To the OP, i agree, its a waiting game, no point in jumping the gun when all ANET has shown is the major points, and not a single one of the minor things.

I’m sure you realize the people posting here, whether they love or hate the game, are the the vocal minority regardless of personal feelings. I’m sure you also realize that being the vocal minority doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not speaking for the silent majority.
Honestly, If I were them, I wouldn’t even announced it after watching the forums.
People complain about everything, get used to it, just ignore them.
