Good day,

Back in June, Link Hughes shared a blog post in which he discussed Rethinking Guilds .

We of the Guild Halls team would like to remind guilds and their members of a few things in these last several hours before launch!

1. Activate any unused 24 or 48 hour buffs for your guild before Heart of Thorns launches.

Your guild will not be able to activate any unused 24-48 hour buffs for your guild after HoT launches. Any remaining buffs following launch will not be accessible and any time remaining on an active buff will be carried over until it naturally expires. This does not include your banners and feasts which will continue to exist in the Storage tab of your guild panel.

2. Activate and complete your guild missions before Heart of Thorns launches.

Your guild mission consumables will not be usable in Heart of Thorns as guild missions will no longer need consumables. If you run missions before launch, you will be able to run the missions after launch for guild rewards. For further notes on missions, read Colin’s post on a Handful of HoT Notes

3. Spend your remaining guild merits.
Merits will no longer be used by guilds and are being removed. Any merits held following the launch of Heart of Thorns cannot be spent and will be inaccessible.

4. Consider spending your influence.
There are about 15 consumable items that you can invest your guild influence in. You can hold 25 of each these consumables before your guild is capped on the number you can hold. If you have influence you cannot sink into consumables before launch, you will be able to exchange your influence for Aetherium, Favor and Resonance.

Influence may be exchanged as follows:
– Favor may be exchanged each week.
– Resonance may be exchanged as much as desired.
– Aetherium may be exchanged every 24 hours

5. Use your Art of War fortification buffs.
“Fortified” buffs will not carry into Heart of Thorns and cannot be used after launch. Activate and use these before launch to get the most out of them. Once Heart of Thorns launches, these will no longer be usable.

6. Queue what you can!
Anything in your queue will be auto completed. This counts for your guild’s currently building upgrades and your items further back in the queue.

7. Some upgrades will be grandfathered into the Guild Halls system.

When Heart of Thorns launches a few upgrades obtained in the previous system will carry over into the new system. These upgrades will not require you to own a guild hall and you will be able to benefit from them after launch.

The following upgrades will provide NPCs in the Guild Initiative Office.

Guild Armorer Contract will be renamed to “Guild Armorer 1” and will be auto unlocked for the Market.
Guild Weapons Contract will be renamed to “Guild Weaponsmith 1” and will be auto unlocked for the Market.
Guild Stash will be auto unlocked from the Notary
Guild Treasure Trove will be auto unlocked from the Market.
Deep Cave will be auto unlocked from the Market.

The following upgrades will unlock scribing recipes. You must have a guild hall to scribe the schematic and build the item. However, until you get the guild hall you will be able to purchase the items with favor from a Guild Requisitioner found in the Guild Initiative Office.

Guild Catapult will auto unlock the War Room upgrade “Scribing: Guild Catapult”.
Guild Siege Suit will auto unlock the War Room upgrade “Scribing: Guild Siege Golem”.

Have fun, everyone! \o/

Thank you for this post, Dara. I sent a message of this to my friends right away. We’ll have to see how we will slice that apple, so to speak. But I’m sure we’ll enjoy our G(u)ilded Hall in any case.

Are the items in our current guild banks (gold and items) safe for transfer, or should we consider pulling everything out?

I understand there is a “Guild Vault” of sorts and know little about it, or how it may coincide with the current guild bank.

Hi Dara. My guild had upgrades building in queue which would have completed before HoT release. Checking earlier, the queue is now empty, and the upgrades have not completed.

The log does not indicate any cancellations or completions.

Is this working as intended? Or should I submit a bug report.

Thanks in advance.

Ok I have another question, what are the requirement to claim Guild Hall. I heard it or read it somewhere that we will need Favor to actually start the expedition. If yes, how many do we need? And is it possible to get that amount from the first set of Guild Missions?

The reason for this question is because everyone in the guild scheduled to join this one time event for the guild. Don’t really like it in the event where everyone poured in the time and found out they can’t actually claim Guild Hall immediately, especially for big guilds.

Thanks.

Hey Dara,

quick question:
Friend of mine builds his guild. He has queued architecture for lvl 4, but dont has the treasure trove yet. He can’t put it into the queue as he don’t has the requierents yet. Is he able to complete it after release, or do you change it that he’s stucked with the 50 slot bank?

@Shuai: You won’t need the Guild Treck Unlock with HoT, so yes, better cancel it and build something else

@Chrisnx: Your friend maybe could speed up the achitecture lv4 to complete it before tomorrow (I got the same issue atm in one of my bank guilds)

@Fryggenbart
I’m kind of doubious becaue of this extract from the “Rethinking Guilds” article:
“If your guild had obtained the necessary research level and prerequisites to have consumables like banners or Vault Transport unlocked under the current system, you will have them unlocked to craft in the new system.”
Some banners, e.g. Guild Heroes Banners, requires guild events unlocked to be able to craft them, in this case the “Guild Puzzle Unlock”. Wouldn’t this be the additional prerequisite besides your research level that’s needed to craft the banners?
If that’s the case, it sounds like having guild puzzles inlocked will let you craft heroes banners immediately, having guild rushes unlocked will let you craft 10% gold and 15% MF banners immediately, etc.

Is it possible to get a refund of influence for guild missions (and maybe other upgrades that will go away)? For some missions we have like 10 available in the upgrade list, quite some influence which we could use for weekly favor. We worked for this and got some gold spent into this, will this be lost?

I wanted to get the Deep Cave upgrade for my personal guild, and I realised I needed the Research Level 5 upgrade for Architecture to be unlocked before I had the Deep Cave available for queuing. So I spent gold to get Letters of Commendation for enough influence for both the Research Level 5 and the Deep Cave.
However, now it seems like I won’t be able to queue the Deep Cave in time for the HoT launch. Does this mean I have actually made a bad decision and will have to forfeit the remaining influence I had bought? That sure seems terrible.
Anyway for ANET to make an exception and speed up just the Research Levels so that guilds can get the upgrades they want? Or it’s really just a sucks-to-be-me situation?

Hi Dara, quick question here. Does this mean that we will not be able to get the guild siege we currently have built once hot hits? We have several guild catapults built and building, so should we just leave one built to unlock this upgrade and activate the rest so that we don’t lose any of them?

Thank you and the other devs for all your work BTW, looking forward to the new guild system and guild halls!

After hot release influence will not be used anymore, so you can queue arch 5 now, tomorrow it will be done and then convert the remaining influence in favor or the other things needed to do the deep cave upgrade.

Good day, friends! Are you Faren well today? To answer a few of the questions:

8. Will guilds be able to buy favor with gold, like you can currently with influence?

You will not be able to buy favor with gold. We want favor to be a currency with value for the guild system in Heart of Thorns and do not want it to become trivial for some guilds.

9. What are the requirements to claim a Guild Hall?

The act of purchasing (funding) is done through the Guild Initiative Office. This will cost 100 gold and some favor. I’d like to leave the exact amount of favor to you all to discover on launch. I understand this interferes with preplanning for some guilds, but we wish to keep some discovery of the system intact for everyone’s launch day.

We do not expect guilds to be able to claim their desired guild halls immediately. Guilds will need to trek through the jungles and find the hidden paths to the entrances. And anyone participating will need to be able to enter the expedition on their own two feet. There is a lot of crazy things in the jungle and who knows what your guild will encounter on the way.

10. Will there be opportunity to complete unqueued upgrades after launch?

The upgrade tab currently available in the guild panel will be going away and players will no longer be able to queue upgrades. If a guild didn’t obtain an upgrade before launch, they will need to get it through the new system, as the queue system for upgrades is being removed.

As others suggested, if there is an upgrade you really want you may want to hurry the production of any queued prerequisite upgrades and get the upgrades you want in your queue. If you do not have enough influence, you can buy some. See the wiki entry on Influence for more information.

10. Is it possible to get a refund of influence for guild missions (and maybe other upgrades that will go away)?

We will not be refunding guilds for missions or other upgrades.

11. Can you explain point 7 in more detail?

Using one of the listed upgrades as an example:
Guild Armorer Contract will be renamed to “Guild Armorer 1” and will be auto unlocked for the Market.

Guild Armorer Contract is the name of an upgrade available to a guild in the current system. Owning the upgrade would allow a guild to speak with an NPC named Guild Armorer who would sell guild members guild armors and backpacks.

If a guild had this upgrade before Heart of Thorns, they will still have the upgrade after launch. And the guild will have access to an NPC that sells the same items as before. The guild will not have to unlock the upgrade a second time should they decide to claim a guild hall, as the upgrade will already be unlocked from the Market (though it will now be called “Guild Armorer 1” and not “Guild Armorer Contract”).

If the guild did not have the Guild Armorer Contract before HoT, they will need to obtain the Guild Armorer 1 upgrade from the Market in whichever guild hall the guild claims.

12. What are the Notary and the Market? And do we have to claim a Guild Hall for my Bankguild first to get back Access to my Bank?

The Notary and Market are 2 of 7 areas of focus for your guild to gain upgrades from (the others include the Tavern, Mine, Workshop, Arena and War Room). The Notary will be accessible through the Guild Initiative Office and the others will only be accessible through the guild hall once it is obtained. If you don’t have the guild banks unlocked before Heart of Thorns, you will need to get the upgrades from those sources after launch.

If looking for further answers on Guild Banks, you can find them in this post here: Guild Bank security when HoT launches

13. What happens to guild siege already built by a guild once HoT launches?

Any guild catapults and guild siege golems built by a guild will be placed in the Storage tab of the guild panel after launch. To access them, you will open the guild panel and navigate to the new tab named “Storage”. You will find what you seek under the Consumables category.

Thank you all for your questions! Hold on tight! We’re almost there!

You wont lose any siege/banners consumables. So you are safe. What you can do this evening take out any siege and queue up a full list of siege before HoT launches, last chance to get guild siege via influence.

I should say keep at least 1 finished siege of each inside the upgrade list to be sure you unlock that specific recipe for scribing.

I know you are saying we wont be able to unlock the guild hall immediately, which is fine, but can you be just a bit more specific about the barrier to entry.

Is it simply that we need to get to the entrance or is it time gated based on the amount of favor you have to earn through pvp and wvw missions this weekend (since there are no pve missions available)? Will we be able to earn enough favor to unlock the hall at all this weekend? Also, are the entrances gated by gliding or mushroom mechanics?

Some of us already have events on the schedule this weekend bringing people together to unlock the hall. Just need to know if that is even possible.

Please clarify something for me Dara,

Based on what was said in this link: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Guild-Bank-security-when-HoT-launches/first#post5602172
“If your guild had Guild Stash, Treasure Trove and/or Deep Cave before HoT, your guild will still have access to them after HoT. They will still be accessible from the Guild Bankers.”

And per this post:

Good day, friends! Are you Faren well today? To answer a few of the questions:

12. What are the Notary and the Market? And do we have to claim a Guild Hall for my Bankguild first to get back Access to my Bank?

My guild already has the entire bank unlocked.

So it appears we have access to the Treasure Trove /Deep Cave AFTER we upgrade the Market. Or is the Market only needed IF we one doesn’t currently have the Treasure Trove /Deep Cave?

So BEFORE we have access to the Market in our captured guild hall, will we be able to access our Treasure Trove /Deep Cave?
And will we have deposit and withdraw abilities?

I have a feeling that large guild will find gathering favor trivial irregardless of being able to purchase it, assuming it works like influence, but small guilds will have a much harder time. I am a member of a very small guild, and I’ve bought influence on a couple of occasions to speed up the upgrade process a bit since we gained influence so slowly on account of our member size. I worry that with the new system it will be futile to even think about getting a guild hall etcetera.

Anet wants you to gravitate towards a big market/guild. This is their way of trying to get many little guilds into big guilds. The whole ‘blob’ mentality. Kind of reminds me of MLB baseball: get the best players into the biggest markets for the ‘pricer rewards’, and wave bye-bye to the little markets who cannot compete.

I don’t know much about WvW queuing but I’ve just gone in my guild panel while standing in Rata Sum and set the Siege Suit and Catapult into the queue. With a couple of banners finishing in 6 hours, the two sieges should then be in processing as of launch and thus become scribe recipes.

Thanks for posting this! Unlike much of the other information about HoT that is hidden and shrouded (I like it, going to be an adventure), this information is necessary because it’s not good mojo to remove things from the game without proper warning, and you even gave good suggestions to what to do about it.

Looks like the only thing work queuing if you have lots of merits is world events.

What about commendations? Do I need to go ahead and spend the few that I have today or will they stick around?

Getting rid of a whole host of items with no compensation of any sort: not cool.

8. Will guilds be able to buy favor with gold, like you can currently with influence?

You will not be able to buy favor with gold. We want favor to be a currency with value for the guild system in Heart of Thorns and do not want it to become trivial for some guilds.

Hmmm

What will happen to the scrolls of influence one receives from the end of Retribution and Victory or Death personal story steps? What about the laurel vendor’s scrolls?

10. Will there be opportunity to complete unqueued upgrades after launch?

10. Is it possible to get a refund of influence for guild missions (and maybe other upgrades that will go away)?

Is 10 such an awesome number you just had to use it twice?

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

The Notary and Market are 2 of 7 areas of focus for your guild to gain upgrades from (the others include the Tavern, Mine, Workshop, Arena and War Room). The Notary will be accessible through the Guild Initiative Office and the others will only be accessible through the guild hall once it is obtained. If you don’t have the guild banks unlocked before Heart of Thorns, you will need to get the upgrades from those sources after launch.

If looking for further answers on Guild Banks, you can find them in this post here: Guild Bank security when HoT launches

Guild banker NPCs work like they did before. The difference is how you unlock the upgrades.

In the new system, if you don’t have the upgrades, you can get the stash upgrade from the notary (guild initiative) but in order to unlock the other two you need to build/upgrade a market within a guild hall.

if you currently have those upgrades you still keep them, and thus can still use them from guild bankers, even if you haven’t claimed a guild hall or built a market.

Does that make more sense?

Individual commendations are staying and will still be useful. You can hold onto them. Heck, they might (pure guessing on my part) be needed for access to the new guild armors.

Hail friends!

I know you guys have many more questions, but I and my peeps want to give you all a heads up on some new information ASAP so you can prepare.

Tonight at 11PM PST we need to switch some things in the code for Guilds. Therefore some features are going to be turned on a bit earlier in preparation for Heart of Thorns.

  • All queued upgrades will be auto completed and you will not be able to queue any new upgrades.
  • Any guild missions you have active will be auto completed (without rewards) and the new mission system will kick in.
  • We will be relieving the guild npcs who have been stationed around the Guild Initiaitive Office in LA (though the Guild Banker and Registrar will still be there for you).
  • Guild Influence will no longer be given or sold (though you will still be able to use any consumables that given influence if you have them left).
  • Guild Merits will no longer be awarded for missions (we’ll still give you the currency: Guild Commendations).

Take another look at my post above from last evening and make sure your guilds are prepared. Some of this is hitting a bit sooner. \o/

ALSO, we wanted to let you guys know of a change to map caps for the guild Expedition encounters and guild halls. We told you all that we were aiming to let 200 folks into these locations at a time. However we need to tone this number down to make sure the performance for the maps is solid. Therefore we are reducing the cap to 150 (down from 200).

Almost there everyone! And remember… #TeamGildedHollow

Lore-wise, why will all of the GW2 Guild Halls only be located in the Maguuma Jungle? Have the previous Guild Halls all across Tyria crumbled over the years?
