What was gated in HoT which was unreasonable?

The very first mastery was required to advance the storyline. And, that required far more XP than you earned during the mission.

I would hope that Anet is capable of producing an expansion better than HoT. If not, that does not bode well for the future of the game.

I remember that Mike O’Brien made a point to assure the gw2 community that they had learned from the mistakes of HoT. I don’t remember the core game ever needing that kind of caveat.

Unfortunately, Mike did not specify WHICH mistakes.

I listed some of the lessons ANet needed to learn — and correct. I’m sure there are others.

To convince me to buy earlier than I posted above, they’re going to have to publicly state what those lessons were, and what they’re doing to correct them. Vague promises and vague references to “mistakes” aren’t going to cut it, for me.

Which took about 30 minutes to unlock. After which, it remained forever unlocked for other playthroughs.

Edit: fixed typo

First impressions are everlasting. If it comes across as grindy from the first moment that is not good at all.

Though unreasonable is not the word I would use.

Are you both sure Mike O’Brien made that statement? It wasn’t a statement from one of the NCSoft Quarterly Financial Statements meetings?

@Inculpatus cedo……. You may just be right about that. It has been a long time since the statement about mistakes was made. If it wasn’t Mike O’Brien I apologize for the error.

Actually, I didn’t remember who posted it, just that it was said. I was going off of the previous poster’s statement.

Conspiracy theory: Anet haven’t prioritized build templates because players who REALLY want to can spend gold/gems on a character slot and gear to manually create their own template on a new character. If so, that is kind of a kitten move.

Honestly that isn’t even a feature that would need to be tied into an expansion either (read: feature pack). I’d play the game more if I could save build templates on a single character.

It’s pretty much zero times that a major studio makes decisions on that basis.
