Q:

Greetings!

Recently i came back after almost 2 years to play the game again, trough i had to get a new account (my old one was lost), and i thought its a nice time to ask how things are right now class balance -viability side.

I personally decided to play a class that is amazing for support role, ranged if i can prefer, (and trough i did try the new class i wanted to play so badly…its not for me.)

So it came down to Ele and Ranger…(maybe Engi or something) . Personally i would play Ele if this was some other mmo , since its a caster-mage type class…but Gw is quite other topic.
Then i came to Ranger, thats is not a caster at all, but i hear its good as support with awaken skill or staff or what ever. And as bonus it has lots of cool skins for weapons and armor.
But then again i am not sure what is viable these days. I really like to solo que for pvp (5v5-10v10 or not sure how they call the small scale battlegrounds). And general dungeon-raid (planning on) gaming. I just dont want a class, that people dont want to take. As a bonus a viable dps offspec would be good.

So anyone got first hand experiance? I kind of hear so many kind of things…not sure what to believe anymore.

I completelyunderstand you as i myself had this problem a few months before; i think you might want a combination of RACE and CLASS as both can give you unique support roles. For the class i would revomend silvani who can drop heling pods and turrets whilst for the class i would pick ranger as ele is usually more centered aroun aggro.

(sorry 4 the bad spellings)
Hope this helps a little

Ele → Tempest is always your safest bet. It has really good support and dps, although it can be little complex to play. You need to really comprehend the sustain and support skills to make the clase shine, but it is really, really good.

Ranger→ Druid is also a good idea, easier to play AFAIK, just less adaptable.

Mesmer→ Chrono is another popular choice, with plenty of ranged options and some of the best support abilities in the game. It is also complex to play, but not as frantic as Ele.

Finally, although I really love Engie, I must say it is not a good class to play at range or as support. A good Engie moves in and out all the time, and in the current paradigm, the support it gives is subpar. In fact, there are several petitions in the Engie subforum asking for a more unique and better way to support teams, because right now Engie is seen as a “selfish” profession, without a decent way to help a team, unless they die first.

that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

It’s worth noting that while racial skills exist, they are deliberately tuned so that race is not a significant factor in performance — which means, essentially, that they will always be less good than class elite skills.
