Data-mining showed us 5 legends for the Revenant:
- Mallyx
- Dwarf king
- Ventari
- Glint
- Shiro

I believe the 6th will be the specialisation, which totals 6 Legends.
Now, each legend has a weapon associated to it.

We’ve seen:

Axe & Mace
Hammer
Staff

Which leaves 3 weapon possibilities for us to explore. Which do you think we will get?
I’m betting on:

Shiro: Sword & Dagger
Glint: Scepter & Shield
?: ?

Shiro because he was an assassin, Glint because she was a dragon, and dragons are pretty magical (scepter) and the crystalline body of her gives her a big defensive buff (thus shield).

I concur and have said as much in the dozen or so other threads just like this one. 1 legend each for the first 4 traitlines. 1 traitline that is more associated with the mechanics and not tied to a legend exactly. Then 1 legend plus some sort of core mechanic change for each elite specialization.

I also guess that Glint will be the specialization legend and since Rytlock seems to use her, he is likely using the elite specialization himself.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I agree that odds are Glint will be related to the Elite Spec. We’ve already seen that Rytlock seems to prefer using the Glint Legend and we have a precidence for the NPCs gaining specialities (ie Marjory – Reaper).

Glint’s Legacy is literally involved in this story anyhow. That leaves us with a the typical 4 spec paths seen before. One generic/mechanic related. Defensive (Jalis), Condition (Malyx), Support (Ventari), and Power (Shiro) legend.

And yet i still doubt elite spec brings another legend. Dev said themself many times that elite spec will change how core class play and feel. If revenant get another legend in elite spec what does it change from base class? Nothing really.

Also looks like shield “belongs” to glint.

It appears as though the remaining weapons are Sword mainhand, Sword off-hand, Shield and Spear: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/37tunc/update_revenant_datamined_staff_skills_removed/

Well, that’s the thing though. The Revenant is naturally more different from other classes because of its ability to channel legends. Actually, I think that the elite specializations are based on how the Revenant is setup. Check it out:

What do we get with an elite specialization?

  • New weapon that can’t be used by the base class: this one is easy; all of the legends revealed so far seem to have a weapon that synergizes best with them. It wouldn’t be too weird to have an elite spec legend that grants you the ability to use their weapon.
  • New heal, 3-4 new utility, and 1 new elite skill that can’t be used by the base class: This is what a Revenant gets with a new legend by default. You are limited to what your legends give you, but whenever you equip a new legend you get 5 new skills that you otherwise could not access before.
  • Updated class mechanic (F1-5): This one is a bit tricky, but it’s not to say it can’t be done. We know the Revenant class mechanic is the ability to swap between legends and utilize the energy bar for the legend-specific skills. They could definitely implement a different way for that to function, but they have not revealed it yet.

If revenants only get 4 base specs, that’s 4*3=12 utility skills. In contrast, other professions have 5 sets of 4 utility skills each, for a total of 20. That seems incredibly unfair.

But if revenant gets 5 base legends, and if anet decides to add a forth utility skill to each one of them, then revenants will be comparable to the remaining professions.

Even more so, if you consider that each new elite spec brings 4 utilities to a base profession, so it would be only fair if the that was the same case for revenant’s elite specs.

Finally, their “traitline that is more associated with the mechanics and not tied to a legend exactly” happens to have plenty of synergy with the ventari. But you may be right on this one.

I agree with this entirely.

- Ventari synergizes better with Invocation than either of the other two legends.

- They did not introduce a specialization line with the Ventari legend, implying that they are either a) saving it for tomorrow, b) not ready to present said trait line, which would make this reveal pretty weak without its associated trait line, or c) are considering or have decided to make Invocation the Ventari line.

Personally, I approve of door number 3 here. Rename it something fitting to Ventari – like Conviction – and give the Revenant 5 base legends.

Hopefully, we do get four utility skills per Legend… Hopefully. Personally, I think we’re going to get four base Legends, with the fifth one reserved for the elite spcialization.

As for the total number of skills, ArenaNet could add a general selection of Signets we can use in place of Legend skills. A set of four would bring the total number up to 20, and Signets are the most prevalent skill type in the game, with Engineer being the only profession not to have them.

5*4 = 20

This is why it makes sense for them to make Legends get 4 utilities each.
also likely 5 legends baseline.

Maybe a 6th legend in Elite Spec.

Where did Anet announce weapon choice is tied to legend choice? Haven’t seen that anywhere.

That being said I’ll never use the Ventari legend with the staff unless the staff is a high dps weapon using the power legend… unless they add in weapon swap.

Theres a problem, if Glint is the elite spec legend as some of you say, and shield is tied to glint, there is a contradiction since mesmers already got shield for their elite spec. So this means that shield is a non-elite spec weapon, or Glint is not an elite spec legend, but in either case it points out that some non-datamined weapon must be the Revenant’s elite spec weapon.

Personally I hope it will be scepter or warhorn, but it could be literally anything at this point that hasn’t already gone to a different class.

Elementalists elite spec is Tempest, and their datamined weapon is sword, which fits perfectly with the legendary Bolt (tempest, bolt, all thunder elements…).

Rangers elite spec is Druid, which uses a staff, and the only new legendary leaked so far has been a staff with a very nature-spirit-druid-ish theme.

Be ready for revenant’s glint legend to have its main affinity with shield, just so it can be coupled with the legendary shield The Flameseeker Chronicles.

Ofc its not in build. Theres no way that revenant will end up with 4 legends as base. That idea with traitlines associated with legends like ele is just silly. Ele traitlines on it own are paired up with his main mechanic, not the utility type skills. The olny thing that was datamined so far from elite specs was placeholders from ele that looks like dagger skills. At this point why they would put in elite spec for rev? Some time ago people thought that ventari will end up as elite spec legend and here we are getting it as base. It wont be different with Glint.

No it’s ok just let it happen.

Haha, but really I don’t have as much of an attachment to Logan as others, despite mostly having human characters. I didn’t even think of it being a possibility until posting that, but now I really hope it is. What a good twist it would be! People are already theorizing Braham is going to find Eir’s bow and take up Dragonhunter.

Rytlock and Logan have had the most turbulent relationship which finally got patched up. And Logan finally taking being committed to the cause much more seriously. He could have lost his life protecting Zojja and Rytlock realized he can summon him. It would be painful but endearing that Logan could still “fight” with the group, through Rytlock.

I think we’ll have 5 legends, not 6 legends. Reasons:

  1. All classes have 4 trait lines + 1 class mechanic related trait line.
  2. Each class will get a 6th trait line that is their elite specialization.
  3. Assuming the revenant follows this pattern, that means there will be 4 trait lines that focus on a single legend with 1 trait line focusing on the legend switching mechanic. In other words, the 5th trait line will not focus on a legend, but the act of switching them.
  4. This leaves 4 trait lines each with their own legend and a 5th trait line as the elite specialization.
  5. During the revenant previews, we saw 3 existing trait lines, 1 focused on mallyx (demon stance), 1 focused on jalix (dwarven stance), and 1 focused on switching legends (class mechanic). 3 out of 5 lines have been listed, 2 of which involves a particular legend. That leaves us with 2 more trait lines as the base amount and 1 more trait line which represents the elite spec.

I must be truly blind but i do not see where retribution line focuses on Jalis. That line offers tanky utilities but its not different than for example warrior defense line. Retrubution line doesnt not enhance or boost Jalis utilities by any means. Same goes for corruption except 1 trait that grants short resistance on Mallyx skills.

Therebefore your point 3 is completely out of window as utility skills are completely different thing from class mechanic. Its a mistake to compare legends to ele class mechanic. All classes (except engi) have 5 types of utility, 5 traitlines. One of traitlines is focused on class mechanic, in which case its not different from revenant as it stands now.

Following that logic we should take one type of utilities away from current classes right now as they have olny 4 traitlines focusing on x things, with 5th focusing on class mechanic, therebefore one type of their utility skills has no support from traits.

You don’t have to take either the legend or the legend’s weapon with the trait lines you pick. It is often more reasonable to take the associated line, but you could get away with not doing it. Much like how an Elementalist could take Fire and Air lines primarily but use their water attunement for AoE heals and some damage at the same time, Revenants could also take a similar path and really spread out their traits. This will not be useful for min/maxing or whatever, but it might help during WvW or maybe even in PvP.

And that actually what devs mean by flexibility. You can pick up defensive traits with offensive legends etc. That alone should lead to huge build diversity in case of revenant. Its still doesnt mean that Glint will be their elite spec cause Shiro+Glint might share the same traitline.

Elite specs are supposed to change mechanic from base class, that alone should ring a bell that whatever coming to elite spec for revenant it will change the way they play now, not to mention the lack of utility skills compared to old classes if they end up with 4 base legends. I would also like to remind that Ventari was speculated to be revenant elite spec legend due to his connection with the jungle. Same story goes again.. but with Glint and her connection to egg instead. I doubt they have even putted revenant elite spec into files.

After all to this day we dont have datamined skills/traits from reaper, dragonhunter, chromomancer and so on.
