The profession is fairly fun, I’ll give it back. I felt that the beta armor they gave us was WAY too tanky for my taste. I never felt like I was in any real danger while playing but thats not the concern I have.

The Concern I have it the lack of customization of the revenant’s bar. You choose a mainhand weapon and an offhand. Then you choose your Legends. So you are effectively making 5 choices for your build in total IF you’re going to be making that much choice and decided on a two handed weapon. To me, this is concerning. Although it gives the devs a really easy way to balanced the profession because they’ll know exactly what skills are paired with what, it also will have the effect of making the profession rather predictable and boring. More so then any other profession aside from the necromancer, because lets face it you can’t get more predictable then the necromancer. (Sorry, a bit of a small jab there)

There are a few ways that this could be remedied. The first way is to add a couple more skills to each legend so that their utility can have a bit of customization to it. I think this is the simplest way to go about it. Another way is to make a relatively small pool of skills that each function differently depending on the legend you have equipped. Both options are doable, but they might not be perfect solutions.

Another concern i have is with Skill types. At the time I was in the beta all skills were linked to the legend specifically but didn’t have their own identity outside of that. With the expansion of skills into other professions such as mesmer wells and Guardian traps this seems like a bit of customization that could be locked out of the revenant which limits our options even further.

The last concern I have is with the weapons themselves. Both the Elementalist and engineer have a way to change their 1-5 skills through utility. I feel the revenant might need that as well. This is a bit harder to speculate on because of the utility swapping but if it is consistent with what I played in the beta then I don’t feel it would be enough.

Except the majority of customization for all professions comes from traits, stats, runes and sigils. This is also the case for Revenants.

Except you forget that each trait line is linked with a legend limiting that customization even further then you think. Also, read further down where I mention runes specifically.

Which one? As far i know you dont need Jalis to run retribution trait line nor there inst anything that boost Jalis itself, the olny exception from this atm would be mallyx and then thats olny resistance on his skills, but that a logic choice either way if you want to play condi spec.

There are 5 legends, 5 traitlines. Invocation doesnt support anything. Does that mean one legend is supposed to be kittened over as it is not linked with any traitline?

I think that they need to think to combine a bit of elementalist traits with necromancer traits. The necromancer traits have traits that “remade” the skills on death shroud and by adding an additional effect on the skill (life blast could heal, self buff, apply vulnerability, life siphon could be used to heal, entering death shroud could become an offensive tool or a healing tool). Elementalist had skills that added unique effect based on what attunenement you had on skills.

So how to combine? A specific effect on similar skill types that have different effects on the legend but still have a similar theme. Some examples:

  • Altruistic field: fields heals allies:
-unyealding anguish: allies heal X hp for each condition on you.
-inspiring reinforcement: allies heal X hp for each hit they take.
    -…
  • shared stance: Upkeep skill applies boon to allies
    -Embrace the darkness: resistance
    -Vengefull hammer: protection
    -…

That’s not entirely true. They are sort-of linked thematically to a legend, yes. But it is like saying blood magic is tied to daggers. Yes, you can use the two together but you don’t have to.

How are you sure of that?

It was datamined

But how are you sure that they all are “base”? One could be for the specialisation.

Ever since the datamine my guess has been that Glint was the elite specialization legend. Although, Ventari with it’s connection to the jungle and the sylvari (and thus to the current story and the expansion) is also a contender I guess.

skowcia didn’t say BASE, and if one or two were so, what’s the matter? We’re not receiving the revenant before the xpac.

Nice observation. I think today’s post is related to revenant’s elite spec, but there’s a huge curve that means I can be really wrong. But I still hope for it!

He said 5 legends, 5 traits line and the argued that one trait line is not linked to a legend, but if one of them is a specialisation legend then it means that the argument is invalid.

About month ago i did read that revenant will have 5 base legends from a article. It was somewhere on reddit and theres no way im going to dig for that. It was also datamined.

People also forgetting that specializations changes the way you play base classes along with their mechanic, so no, i doubt revenant will get another legend. Its going to be something different but then again im not sure why i should break my fun about watching people speculating which legend is from elite spec.

Also current classes have 5 types of utilities. Why revenant would be a exception at this point and end up with 4 legends, 3 utilities (12 utility skills total) compared to old classes that has 20 utility skills? Im pretty sure they also have 5 diff legends along with 4 utilities per one. I hope for full base revenant reveal this week.

There are 5 trait lines, one generic, and 4 base trait lines that are tied to legends.

There will be a specialization that will add another legend which equals 5.

I also have concerns with how many people I saw said they wanted to main Revenant, but have come out of the beta with concerns over the class rather than nothing but joy.

It does have me a bit worried as I have not been into the beta yet.

Wouldn’t worry about it, it’s a new class, so obviously it’s either going to appear either too weak or too strong, this is how it always is with MMO’s when they introduce a new class.

A lot of the complaints people have about the revenant are mostly tied to it not doing enough damage, this is a result of two things.

1. The class being in celestial armor, not all classes utilize this well.
2. Not being shown the entire class, we haven’t got access to all the weapons, traits or legends, so those who are saying the class is bad are just doomsayers, we haven’t been given the full picture.
3. The big one, numbers are not final.

Warrior 80 | Guardian 80 | Ranger 80 | Engineer 80 |
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA

This would put the revenant at 4 heals, 4 elites and 12 utility skills at the base profession if the 5th is indeed a specialization. Which puts them at a staggeringly low amount of skills in comparison to any other profession. Although this does make me think that each legend WOULD have 5 utility skills each as it would put them at 20 skills in total. Which is much better, but skill types are also rather important when talking about rune synergies. I’d like runes to be much more impactful to your build and your skills which i think Arena net is interested in doing with runes that specifically care about a specific skills type beyond almost universal skills like Signets and Shouts.

wait, why wouldn’t the revenant get 4 signets? Has there been something that says that revenants won’t get signets as their last 4 utility skills?

Since utility skills (and healing and elite skills) are tied to legendaries, they seem to be skill type-less. Now of course there is a chance that the Revenant will get access to a small pool of utility skills (such as signets) regardless of his legendary stances but so far that doesn’t appear to be the case.

I didn’t actually say they’d get signets. I was using that as an example for how runes impact skills and made some suggestions that it’ll go a bit further then that.

i think they will add more utility for every legend and what we are seeing now is just a set to get the revenant ready to go for the beta
