Overall damage on these skills looks low (not just staff). There is nothing that could potentially burst someone down either, olny sustained damage which leads me to think that legends possibly glint/shiro will provide a burst skills like glint elite from trailer/beta movie.

Staff on it own looks like a bunker/support weapon type
Sword mh as dps
Sword offhand (please dagger plz!) as cc wep
Shield as support

In my own opinion, I think there’s too many short-ranged weapons for the Revenant.

Sword…
Mace…
Staff…

The only decent ones in my mind are the hammer (albeit extremely slow and clunky, the range almost makes up for this – almost…) and axe offhand (both skills of which, have a range of 900 – which is fairly decent).

Would be nice to see at least one of those 3 weapons have an increased range. Mace would be nice. Keep staff and sword as close-ranged weapons perhaps.

Forever a supporter of more male skimpy armor

No must keep mace melee must, revenant also has a bow, possibly the most access to taunt, possibly decent teleports etc but mace must remain melee condi.

Looks like the sword skill that grants might and hits 7 targets might be that one skill we saw Rytlock using in the trailer, the one where he teleported in between targets.

That seems like a pretty powerful heal on (what I’m assuming) is the third skill in the staff’s skill 1 attack chain.

Well it depends on what type of Bow and what the combat design for the Bow is.

Weapons Revy get seems to also related to certain Legends like how Mace relates to Mallyx the Unyielding/Trait path(Condition DPS) and the Hammer relates to King Jalis Ironhammer/trait path (Tank).

Taunt is a nice addition to the game but it is designed around characters that is prepared to go head on with a enemy or in a short dead lock like the DragonHunter.

If the Legend for Long Bow or Short Bow is a DPS focused Legend, it may not be given Taunt.

On that note….

As of now Revy seems to lack any Range Weapons beyond the Hammer in their Default Profession. I wonder if the 1st Specialization will give the Revy shot bow or long bow to make up for Revy’s lack of Range combat.

PS not to be rude but where did Anet mention a bow weapon for Revy because I’ve yet to see any info about a 2nd Range Weapon for Revy so far.

revenant also has a bow

Not that we know of. Some people claim the revenant has access to a bow based on the concept art on the Heart of Thorns site but looking closely at the piece of art makes it clear that it is a sword. There is no other evidence that the revenant will have access to bows, not in trailers nor in the dat file.

Youre definitely not alone. They should be more warrior like. Aggressive and such. So much about talking about their dark nature along with dark magic and such lel. I believe the previous staff skills were actually better at this point with taunt. Current staff looks like a combination of mace/shield guard.

Staff probably didn’t need the Taunt since there is Forceful Engagement.

Staff also lost Fury boon on 3rd autoattack chain …

Overall, Staff is going to be very hard to balance as stated here with the heal on auto and another heal on skill 4, (so broken for PvE – worse than Guardian Hammer auto Protection boon or Thief Pistol 5 pre-nerf Blind spam). And don’t forget another two pocket heals with Legendary swap.

Revenant Offhand sword has a single target r600 pull… Pull with block/immobilize as the other ability. Warriors commence whine.

RE: Other comments in thread
Actually, Revenant needs the same thing that Warriors do… a main hand 900 range weapon (i.e. Pistol). Of course Revenant will probably get 900 range main hand dagger (throwing star) or some such.

The other is Revenant needs a mobility weapon 600-x range leap skill. I’m actually surprised Main Hand Sword and Staff doesn’t each have one actually.

I agree that having Hammer as the only ranged option seems unusual. Not sure if Rev needs a gap-closer (e.g. leap) skill on a weapon though. We see a leap skill on Mallyx legend (though admittedly it’s for mobility only and not useful for actually getting into melee range of a target), and there may be mobility skills on other legends too; it could be that Rev gets most of it’s mobility from utility skills instead of weapon skills.

Shouldn’t Anet be showcasing mainhand mace on the Rev? It seems to be the most underwhelming weapon to date. It’s fantastic as an off hand for War, but how many of us stray from the GS?

It seems a perfect fit to make the mace shine, unless one of the other classes gets it as their elite.

Fair trade losing fury for healing. But they completely changed the way staff act from more offensive to a pure defensive weapon. They probably wanted one weapon to act tanky as theres no point in current state to create 2 weapons to do the same – just look warrior gs and axe where axe is inferior to gs in every possible way.

As for taunt forceful engagement is a joke in current state. Wiki is not updated but in the beta taunt was 2sec instead of 3 making this skill underpowered considering its still eats 50 energy, it still has 1 sec casttime and its olny single target. Why anyone would waste so much energy on such weak skill?

Revenant Offhand sword has a single target r600 pull… Pull with block/immobilize as the other ability. Warriors commence whine.

More revenant skills should be designed this way. Load of cc, tryhard style.

Actually, Revenant needs the same thing that Warriors do… a main hand 900 range weapon (i.e. Pistol). Of course Revenant will probably get 900 range main hand dagger (throwing star) or some such.

Why? They have offhand axe with 900 range already or 2h long range hammer. Outside of shield none would work with 1h ranged wep. We dont know what their specialization will bring either.

The other is Revenant needs a mobility weapon 600-x range leap skill. I’m actually surprised Main Hand Sword and Staff doesn’t each have one actually.

I stated in another thread that we possibly have to choose a legend which is mainly focused on mobility. I wont be surprised if legends goes in a pattern;

-one for being a tank (Jalis)
-one for condi (Mallyx)
-one for burst (Glint?)
-one for cc (Ventari? What class he was in gw1?)
-one for mobility (Shiro?)

Should be fun. After all utilities are the main weapon of revenant.

I’m kind of disappointed that Revenant will have a shield. I didn’t want a “it wears heavy armor therefore must use a shield” line of thinking to go with the new class.

However, it’s far from a dealbreaker and I’m still going to make one :-)

Taunt is very powerful (especially with traits like Improved Aggression) and it Slows. That’s why.

Because there is a major difference between a 600-900 range auto attack then a 12s cooldown gap closer that puts you next to the target (and in any melee cleave/AoE the target is standing in).

While it sounds good on the surface, there is nothing that indicates anything you stated will be true for Revenant design. ie. Jalis has a energy AoE melee DPS ability. I’m also skeptical because this leaves a limited option set for future Elite specialization options.

Yet still weaker than other forms of cc. You still do autoattack under taunt taking damage unlike stun, knockdown, launch, knockback, fear which disable you completely.. In case of taunt you may die still if you have been nearly dead as it wont save you live unlike these cc i mentioned. Taunt is pretty much a daze with ability to autoattack.

Because there is a major difference between a 600-900 range auto attack then a 12s cooldown gap closer that puts you next to the target (and in any melee cleave/AoE the target is standing in).

And yet there still no offhand that would have any synergy with 1h ranged wep so im not sure why you really want 1h ranged wep that bad. Hammer will do it job.

They are mostly focused on one thing but that doesnt mean they dont do anything else. And it seems you dont understand logic behind vengeful hammers either. It is not a skill that is supposed to be a melee dps, its a skill with defensive purposes for extra pressure in melee, nothing else.

Again, you are ignoring the Slow aspect. Autoattack+Slow (if the attacker even has ranged) still means less damage taken. Then add a trait that reduces damage further that attacks you. If you are near death, it’s still a defensive action which buys you more time.

You are also forgetting about pulling enemies into fields and other CC (like a fellow Guardian trap >.<). You get the idea…maybe.

No one has said it isn’t inferior to stun … but that’s why Taunt is also connected to a much smaller cooldown ability. Taunt is soft CC. Stun is hard CC.

You cant take both traits. Either reduced damage from taunted people or reduced damage from ranged attacks. And i doubt people will run trap (they are weak in general) on guardian other than some yolo builds as meditation are superior in everyway. Dragonhunter will be picked mostly for new virtues and lb olny.

Instead of wasting 50 energy for a 2sec taunt ability you could waste 50 energy for another useless ability (lol 3 sec casttime – wtf?) to reduce damage taken by 50% for 5sec. Theres really no reason to use this taunt ability in current state. It also has huge tell which makes it fairy easy to dodge. It may be used to bait out a dodge before you swap but other than that its useless thanks to reduced duration from 3 to 2 sec. When they show us 4th ability on jalis i doubt anyone gonna equip forced engagement as it stands now unless they reduce energy cost or make it actually deal some heavy damage.
