Revenant Unique mechanics?
You just mentioned a mixture of several other professions’ unique mechinics. Think about it…
‘would of been’ —> wrong
What kind of “unique” mechanic would you want to see? Flying revenants? They can burrow underground like a Starcraft lurker? Maybe they can summon and ride motorbikes?
They really have to work within a context of the game’s framework. That means their “unique” mechanics have to be something that’s built into their combat without being overly complicated.
I think it’s unique enough, even if you look at it as the combination of thief and necromancer resources, it results in something new and unique, because together it’s different than both base aspects alone…
also the new skill mechanics look interesting
Unique Mechanic: Being able to have two fully swappable utility bars (including healing and elite skills) is not implemented anywhere in the game and your comparison to ele attunements changing the left bar imo is misplaced. I could just as well say that ele atunements are like 4 weapon swaps on CD thus ele attunements is not a unique mechanic.
Unique Resource: Energy is compared to theives but in truth it isn’t. Here are some examples:
1- You don’t have skills that hinder or stop initiative regen on Theives unlike Revenants who have upkeep skills. If you haven’t played GW1 I highly suggest looking those skills up on the wiki to understand how they work.
2- Both weapon skills and utility skills for Revenants use energy. This is as opposed to Theives initiative only being used by the weapon skills.
the revenant, to me at least, sounds far more like a gw1 character thrown into our world than simply a mix of classes. he has an energy bar, upkeep skills(monk skills primarily), has four pips of energy regen (so far) on top of Avatars (a dervish thing) and Channeling (ritualist) among god knows what else.
if anything i might make the story about how its my ritualist from GW1 who got lost in the mists and learned awesome warrior skills from rytlock in exchange for teaching him ‘mist voodoo.’ But then took a wrong turn on his way out of the mists and killed my main character before he could start his journey to stop zhaitan and whatnot, thus now he has to do it instead.

I think this was exactly the idea behind it. In the recent interview, the devs told exaclty that: they looked back to GW1 and wanted to please those long time fans (like me btw :-)).

Read: use nostalgia once again to get more GW1 players fooled into buying their game because they “care” about established lore. They, don’t and neither should you.
