I understand with attunement for ele and legends for revenant why there is no in combat weapon swap. Why can’t there be 2 weapon slots where swap is only enabled out of combat?

I know you can manually swap each time OOC, but is it really that hard to use 2 slots and simply enable/disable swap depedending on combat status? Hated this with ele and will tire of it quickly on revenant……

Because you could easily use it for combos before a fight as you stay OOC as long as you don’t hit an enemy

Yea, also, I don’t think it’s fair compared to other classes. Other classes can use stacking sigil on second weapon and stick with the first one, thus having 3 sigils on one weapon. It would be fair if eles, engies and revenants can benefit the same way.

And yet even without sigil stack on second weapon engis are eles are by far the strongest profession when it comes to pvp. Ele in current form rule pvp, pve and wvw. Engi has it uses in pve a well.

Then, it’s not fair that an ele can get up to 40 weapon skills with attunements + conjured weapons where another class can get only 10

This is a valid reason, but why not flush the activities of weapon set 1 when you switch to 2 – negating said combos?

Just seems on the surface there should be a way to give you the QOL experience without providing any advantage over what you can do right now….

Because the devs would need to create a whole new mechanic that would apply just to eles and eng, while simply removing the swap button is way more productive.

For balance purposes those classes were intended to only work with 1 set, if they could swap weapons OOC then why not just allow every class to equip as many sets they want but only access the first 2 sets in combat?

You can do what other players do and just carry the weapons in your inv and use them OOC, like in my ranger I use LB + s/a and I carry a torch and a wh, before some fight I open my inv then I equip my torch to make a fire field, equip my wh to blast and get might from the #5 skill and from the combo and finally I equip my axe back again to use in combat.

of course I can and do carry multiple weapons in inventory and switch when needed.

The ui was built for 2 weapon sets on the character screen already not 3 – 4 – 5 etc. I am a developer ( not game) and enable / disable based on a condition is easy. You can’t port if in combat, just asking really how hard to use the same condition check used there to prevent a weapon swap?

Yes program that just for both classes wouldn’t be as hard as I imagined, instead of removing the swap and lock the 2nd set for them they would just disable the swap in combat and done, your QoL would be done, but if they allowed both classes (and soon Revenants) to have an extra set that they normally can’t use, it would be a QoL that other classes don’t have.

I know it would be great, my main WvW/PvP class is engineer and I’d love to use some rifle skills OOC in WvW then swap to p/s for the combat, but the class wasn’t designed for that.

Weapon swap already has a “combat check”, since the internal cooldown only applies when you’re swapping in combat. OOC there is no cooldown and you can just swap 24/7.

It would be a nice addition, nothing gamebreaking, since you can simply swap from inventory already…

You got my idea wrong. I was discussing the idea about having a secondary weapon that is only swappable out of combat while having sigils like stacking ones to work. Having more skills doesn’t really compensate for the lack of those sigils. Might as well make them not work when you swap your weapons on other classes.

You can manually change weapons before a fight to stack 25 might actually. Just rightclicking weapons from inventory. And it’s not so hard to learn this

Do you see people doing this in sPvP? No, because that’d be broken as kitten.

If they had access to weapon swap OOC, they can do it in sPvP…which will be broken as kitten.

If PvP is your only concern in this regard, then I’d suggest to deactivate the weapon swap in PvP (maybe the same restrictions as with trait swap). I’m looking for a QoL change that only works out of combat, not for an unfair advantage in PvP… And I’m sure I’m not entirely alone with this intention.

To me as an ele who swaps weapons rather frequently it’s just annoying to:

1.) waste 2 inventory slots for weapons other classes can carry in their H panel
2.) to search for my off-hand weapon in said inventory while trying to swap weapons during a dungeon run (depending on situation) or in WvW, while being hit by some mob that decided “now is the time to strike – she only has main-hand equipped!”
3.) generally to have to open my inventory which is infected with a nasty resizing bug that shifts everything everytime I want to swap my weapon.
4.) to block my view while doing so (I carry multiple armor and weapon stat combos with me, so max size inventory is the way to go for me)

In my opinion they can even deactivate the sigil stacks as soon as I swap my weapon, I don’t care about that.

It’s just sad that the main argument against QoL changes like this seems to always be “but you already have 4 elements/20 weapon skills”.

Yes we do, and this mechanic already has several pay-offs attached to it, (the stacking sigils are just another addition to that list of pay-offs, where again everyone said “yeah, but 20 weapon skills”).

This mechanic (be it engie kits or ele attunements) however has nothing to do with an out of combat weapon swap, especially not if it doesn’t give any advantage at all except for the weapons being stored in a different window and making the weapon swap easier. ANet just needs to take care of how to implement it and how to restrict it. And I guess that’s the main reason why this change hasn’t happened yet.

Anyone opposing this idea is a fool.

It changes literally nothing except makes it more convenient to swap to a different weapon loadout when out of combat….

If an engineer wants to swap to pistol shield from rifle while he is out of combat… he must double click two different weapons.

Why not just let them swap weapons when they are out of combat?

Its literally no different than doing it manually except the added convenience.

There are some who are saying that stacking sigils should still work and that is a reason too oppose it. Also there is limited dev time so why should it to be spend on a feature only for 3 classes. Also why should only have three classes access to such a feature?

Again…. this changes nothing…

If a warrior is using sword warhorn and his warhorn builds bloodlust….

Then he swaps to his greatsword….. and unequips it for a longbow…

He will still have his bloodlust stacks because he never unequipped his warhorn in his alternate set.

There is no reason to believe that sigils play any role in this whatsoever.

How so? The player still has a stacking sigil in his ‘combat set’ (combat set is set of weapons that can be used in combat). In the ele/engi/rev idea the ele/engi/rev stacks the sigil in his out of combat weapon then switches to the combat weapon (keeping the stacks) before going to combat. So the ele/engi/rev has stacks while having no stacking sigil in his ‘combat set’.

With the idea being “out of combat only” I don’t really see any advantage for engineer, in fact I don’t see myself using it very often at all. Maybe a quick swap to pop the blast on shield, but I can alraedy do that with my inventory very easily so /shrug I wouldn’t really care.

Ele though I do a lot of inventory swapping so it’d be nice just to pop blasts/swiftness, though being in the right attunement for the skills I want is more of the issue than simply weapon swapping.

Overall I don’t really feel a need for it, could be nice to not have to open inventory for might stacking or stealthing, but /meh.

okay. i see what you mean.

…but giving all professions the ability to swap between weapon loadouts does not mean it has to function the same way weapon swap does.

You could simply reset sigil stacks for swapping weapon loadout.

Gw1 had like 3-4 weapon sets you could swap to/from.

I’d like to see something like that….. and make it completely separate from weapon swapping.

….plus an engi or an ele being able to do what all the other professions can do with sigil stacking (use a stacking weapon then swap) for pve is not gamebreaking and is really nothing to worry about.

And therein lies the problem. Anet doesn’t want to do any changes excluding either PvE or PvP/WvW. Case in point, changes have been made to classes due to PvP balancing which “nerfs” classes in PvE. (I don’t really have any examples but I’m sure others know what I’m talking about.)
