Runes and Legendary Armor
I agree they should add something. There are plenty of rune sets that would work generally well between different build types, but there are a number of solutions they could use otherwise. Whether its legendary runes or the armor “remembering” runes you slotted into it before, it would be really useful for raiding.
They could just add a pop out option for runes/sigils in legendaries I mean it might be hard to code but it would solve the problem without messing with the rune/sigil market.
The issue is if they did a “pop out” solution it would cost 400 gems per use from the gemstore. I think remembering runes put into armor and weapons should have been a thing from the start with all armor types. Just have something similar to pvp dropdown to decide which based on those you have unlocked. (they unlock as you add new kinds into them)
At some point there will probably be Legendary Runes/Sigils. The question should be how do these items impact game play/replay-ability and supply/demand. Too easy and people achieve it and are done and run out of goals.
You don’t want to devalue superior items even further and you want it to tie into the player’s acquiring items in game and doing things in game so what’s your target player’s ROI on crafting a set versus replacing them in sets.
One way to do that would be to require ‘x’ amount of existing runes plus other materials to create 1 of these Legendary ones. So for example ‘x’ Superior Runes of Strength plus ‘x’ Ectos plus ‘x’ Spirit Shards plus ‘x’ Deldrimor/SpiritWood equals 1 Legendary Sigil. Armor would require Elonian/Damask materials.
To me this should be costly considering the benefit to the player. Something that is Legendary should be costly in time and materials. Yet it is not overpowered since players can go the existing route and swap runes/sigils if they choose at a more incremental cost.

I would rather have legendary trinkets than legendary armour, true you cant “see” then, but when changing stats they make the biggest change, hell why not get both
Rune and Sigil wardrobe thats tied to the specific weapon/armor piece. You still have to apply that rune/sigil to the gear but it becomes part of that weapon and selectable.
This would also be useful for the infusions so you can go between WvW and Fractal infusion sets.
Thus you can apply all of them to all pieces add achievement points for it, remove more gold from the economy, and provide the functionality players will want.
This would add “gear progression” that’s entirely convenience based and many wouldnt have to even unlock everything if they didn’t want to.
