SPOILER: Why was this even added?
I hope so. I just figure it’s because of the legal status of certain medicinal substances in Washington state is why the circus got put there.

Seems to me they were shipwrecked and stranded there for quite a long time. One of them even says “We’ve been here for so long..”.
Something must be affecting their minds though since they all seem to act really weird. Or maybe that’s just what carnies are like.

I also like the idea of their minds being messed up. Primordus obviously absorbed the two dead dragons, both highly manipulative of minds, them being dead or alive.
Also bear in mind that our character has a slight bloodstone madness infection. Things might not look the way they are supposed to be…
The Circus
Literally the most out of place thing in the Ember Isles.
I was thrown off a little by the Skritt being in such a desolate and destructive environment, but accepted them when I learned about them being “whipped into shape” by the Dwarf head and it made more sense that they were there.
But The Circus. like why would there be a Circus out in the middle of a highly destructive volcanic area? This literally made no sense at all to me.
Maybe some clarity for it in the next episode?
I agree – I hate the skritt – but it could make sense if you stretch your imagination. Sure – they’re absurdly poor at everything but they’re at least being guided by the dwarf and are generally in the less hostile areas of the island.
-Note: this does not mean I wouldn’t have rather NOT had the skritt be a part of this episode – or the game from now on.
The circus however…that was just full blown wrong.
Hype an area to be a very deadly place – full of surprises and deadly foes at every step and even set it up so thematically with lava, and skulls and volcanoes and generally things that you associate with danger and then ruin everything by dropping a circus on top of it.
I get the need for comic relief – but it should be SUBTLE and ON THE SIDE not smack down in the middle of things. IT RUINS IMMERSION to an extent that made me not even want to see what’s up in that area – just run away from it and pretend it didn’t exist.
This sort of stuff needs to be toned down.

When Orr was released , ppl moaned that the enviroment was TOO depresing :P
When I mentioned that there was a circus in the new area to my kid their immediate response was: “Is that connected to Caudecus?” I wouldn’t actually be surprised if the ‘good’ minister or his henchmen had a hand in it.
Well, I haven’t completely made up my mind about the ‘destroyer of banana’ yet either – maybe somebody just discovered their sense of humour?
I kind of like the surrealism of it though (as long as it doesn’t keep cropping up constantly and everywhere)
As far as I could tell, the Circus people are castaways trying to survive on the island. We don’t know how long they’ve been there, but I think a big part of their behavior isn’t so much ‘Driven insane" as much as trying to give the facade of a normal life (As circus performers) to cope with the reality that they’re stranded on an island with little to no hope of rescue.

There’s a weird and mysterious circus outside Caudecus’ Manor…and a weirder and more mysterious circus shipwrecked on Ember Island. Coincidence?
That aside, it doesn’t seem any stranger to me to see a shipwrecked circus there than seeing a resort on Southsun Isles. A lot of players don’t set foot there because of how hostile the environment is and yet there we have a nice beach with a bar for apres-swim kittentails umbrella drinks.
edit: kitten-filter strikes again

“apres-swim kittentails” – got to love the profanity filter

That reminds me, the original name for the skipper in Gilligan’s Island was ‘Jonas Grumby’. Check Here – wiki
I think our Captain Grumby was no coincidence.
Why was something silly yet could lead to interesting game play added to a game. You really need to ask this question don’t you.
I would love to know more about this Circus!
Are they good or bad guys? Like, why are they there? What happened?
Will they use their magic and circus performances against us????!!
Ooooohh..... Anet, please make a good thing out of this.....
its not out of place at all. When Orr rose, many ships including canthan trade routes got thrown off-course. One of them happened to be a circus. When you look at the attentees closely, you’ll see they look very canthan.

Maybe we’ll help them off the island and in return, they’ll help us get to Cantha?

Mayhaps. I always had hopes that Zhu Hanuku was the ‘S….’ Dragon Champion, you know. I mean, how else can it be that a creature is so strong that a large seafaring warring clan can’t kill it.
My thesis: its weak because the sea, it’s home, was petrified. By then the magical spear of the Luxons was enough to break the constantly trying to rally dragon champion. Now that the jade sea is melting and the Luxons aren’t around to tame it.. BOOOM
