Screencap of all Revenant skills
Inspiring Reinforcement looks kittening-kitten. Really can’t wait to get my hands on the Rev!
Thanks for the screen caps!
I’m personally hoping the most to see screens for traits, because everything else was well explained in the PoI.

Can I just say how amazing not only this new profession looks, but just in general how amazing of a game you guys have already made? And how amazing of a game I know HoT will be?
Just ignore those pessimistic fruit flys who have nothing better to do than cry “murder” about something that has not been released, and not even beta’d, and know that, at least I, truly appreciate the amount of hard work put into this ex-pac.

Will these new technologies be used to improve existing profession skills and not just introduced for their specializations?

Inspiring Reinforcement only on a 5 seconds cooldown with 6 seconds Stability? That would make this a Spammable Utility skill with infinate Stability pulses.
While the same skill on Guardian: Hallowed Grounds have a 80 seconds cooldown.
This is just crazy.
It also costs 25 energy, so you use up 1/4 of your resources to use it each time. If you want to attack with your weapon and use another utility, you’ll deplete most of your energy doing so.
From the quick look we got at the Revenant, energy seems to be more spammable than initiative though. We’ll have to see in the demo how balanced it really is.
Leave it to dulfy. Good job guys.
Im just a bit concerned with how Revenant will effect other professions. Jalis seems to be Guardian on steroids, and Mallyx has a lot of skills that are disturbingly similar to Necromancer.
Ive also seen a few pictures of the traits, some of them are really overpowered, such as:
“When swapping legend (the equivalent of weapon swapping!) Break out of stuns”
“When you activate a stun breaker, gain fury.”
Considering they’re allowed to swap legends every few seconds, Revenant is essentially immune to CC, and has perma-fury. Seems a bit overpowered, but its beta, hopefully it will get nerfed into something more realistic.
Here are the screencaps of all the shown traits.

Energy regenerates at 5 per second, so that’s effectively 5 seconds of cooldown plus 5 seconds of energy. You could spam it, but you would be in the red if you used any other skills. Still pretty spammable though.

I actually would like to see them not have GS. Seems like they use Staff as melee 2H and way too many ppl play GS on other classes so Im hoping they don’t have GS…sorry
The Torment on Temporal Rift seems wrong. it has the same damage for moving as it does not moving

I agree greatsword is bit overused. Warriors, Guardians, Mesmers and even Rangers.
Also Necro is getting one. Some variety would be nice. I’d love powerbased dual wield weapon. Uhmm Swords with Shiro stance or Daggers with Nika stance. The class has so much lore potential. I love it already!
Edit: The show was great. It was made quite interesting.
I can’t wait for more info Rezzed is soo close! I was so excited to see there will be demo in London.

Im gonna count this as making me a Late Alpha Tester! whoooo
are you kidding me with those traits? My god, i would like the development team to actually take 5 minutes and put up a slide and compare what the rev gets trait and skill wise to the necro. I want you to take a look at the synergy among the Rev’s traits and compare it with the horribly lack of synergy necro traits have. SO you created a class with synergy, conditions, cc, defense, stability, and movement. Good job, you have also proven your insane amount of bias for certain classes. I am not going to hop on this bandwagon of patting you on the back for amazing work. its pure sensationalism.
I really enjoyed this POI. The revenant looks really awesome but I expect other classes will receive some love too
Also I hope you receive nice feedback once the demo is out! There is still some work to be done :P
I also hope those UI changes get spread to other classes too. They looked pretty

Haha, np! Jon and I before the stream decided to at least quickly mouse over all traits to not take up too much time just because we were like: “Yeah dulfy will get screenshots and be able to post them all.” xD
I work on systems, combat, skills, and balance.
The skills had amazing looking animations, but also creative effects and combo potential (f.e. hammer 1 with hammer 3). Are other professions going to get touched up a bit as well?

Revenant in it’s current form, very much work in progress, is tripping balls Overpowered.
Did you see the Forced Engagement? No cooldown, 3sec Taunt+Slow @50 energy. Say hello to 6sec of Taunt+Slow. And with only a tiny cooldown on swapping Legends, you’d be putting out 3sec CC’s very, very, frequently.
Or the Mallyx. Just, Mallyx in general. Take Mallyx as one of your Legends and auto-win vs condition builds. Imagine playing a condition build against that. Your attacks against him only make him stronger, as his attacks gain power from the amount of conditions he has.
But he will also put all the conditions you put on him, back on you. While enjoying decent Resistance uptime to mitigate a lot of your damage anyway.
And that Banish Enchantment, @20 energy. Remove 2 boons and give 3-5x confusion stacks. Can hit up to 5 targets. That energy is regained in 4seconds, and you can spam a full 25 stacks of confusion on multiple enemies with a single full energy bar. Bonus: Taunt → forced AA spam with 25x confusion.
Or just the Hammer 2, which has pretty massive damage on the third eruption, with just a 2sec cooldown and 5 energy cost.
To name a few examples. It needs quite some tweaking obviously.
While your in the thread…. come on.. you can admit it. Someone on your development team has played or currently plays Diablo III. The Hammer Spinning around you (Crusader/Paladin) the Hammer Smashing (Barbarian) the ‘your critical hit chance increases until you crit then it resets’ (Demon Hunter) :P
I really enjoyed this POI. The revenant looks really awesome but I expect other classes will receive some love too

I hope the other professions get some love (and not just specializations, many of their existing skills need some serious work done to them), but….MMO expansions have a record of ignoring existing classes in favor of making whatever is new look as new and awesome as possible. I’m not holding my breath until I see a demo of another profession in action with all these changes.
Or the Mallyx. Just, Mallyx in general. Take Mallyx as one of your Legends and auto-win vs condition builds. Imagine playing a condition build against that. Your attacks against him only make him stronger, as his attacks gain power from the amount of conditions he has.

Nah condition necros will destroy a mallyx revenant and believe me i will enjoy all those revenant tears afterwards.
The other condition builds… yeah they will probably get destroyed.
I also hope those UI changes get spread to other classes too. They looked pretty

How about all this shiny new tech you keep mentioning? Would like to see some interesting twists put on current skills, not just the ones coming with specializations.

Forget Revs, how about showing us what we really want,,,, cough Guardian Specialization cough… Sorry I have a cold….
can the legend swap be actually on body effect like elementalist instead of on head effect, seems kind of weird and way too obvious and hide the screen
What I actually liked the most was the camera effect on the hammer skill 3. Using leaps and teleports like that, with the camera pulling back in order to avoid the disorientation effect that would come from moving so fast, is actually a great idea. It allows for more cinematic skills without making combat too confusing.
…and this is why we showed all the things. Awesome job getting all the info dulfy.
Amazing job.
I am still curious about the underwater skills however.
…and this is why we showed all the things. Awesome job getting all the info dulfy.
But you didn’t show the sword skills.
Also will Revenant get a Two-handed sword skill set?
Though I do hope to see this disseminate to the other classes:
- Unroot the Guardian Sword 3 skill
- Give a proximity multi-target to Thief unload (because split targeting your dual pistols (especially if you point at front and back targets) would be awesome enough to almost forgive the confused weapon combo)
- Can we get a debuff that increases condition damage similar to Vulnerability? The corrupted version of Resistance (or vice versa for condition to boon) and I do think condi damage could afford the love.
- With the nerf to stability, could Torment be converted to Stability with applicable skills? Fear and Taunt would be logical conversions, though those are broken by the stun break.
Hard to speak too much without knowing the completed version of Revenant and any adjustments that could be made to other classes with these changes.
- Unroot the Guardian Sword 3 skill
I like when skills have inherent disadvantages like auto-rooting or easy side-stepping. If anything, those skills should have been given more impactful effects instead (like buffed damage).
I also hope those UI changes get spread to other classes too. They looked pretty
You’ll likely see more of it on specializations.
That’s what I’m worried about. It seems that some of these UI changes should benefit more than just the new profession and specialized professions, but also the old ones too.

I have the impression that while we are only getting 1 spec in this expansion, since the future will have more specs rolling out for classes you will probably not see people running just a base profession in the future. This is my speculation though, so make of that what you will.

With a full energy bar, you can spam Pain Absorption back to back to back to stack 15s of Resistance at a minimum (with Demonic Defiance trait), up to 5 additional seconds per cast if allies with a condition are nearby (not even counting boon duration). If that boon doesn’t get removed, you can pretty much autoattack a condi necro/condi engi to death. This perhaps wouldn’t be the best strategic choise, but the option is potentially there! This one could potentially be the best counter against conditions in the game on team fights (cleansing condis from team and giving away Resistance boon like candy).
Mallys+Jalis revs can be really good stompers/stomp preventers or ressers: cast Unyielding Anguish on downed ally, as it pulses it will quickly take away stability stacks from your stomping foes and shadowstep them away, switch to Jalis, cast Inspiring Reinforcement (which stacks stability on pulses) and ress away.
It’s the ultimate boon removal profession, sorry Mesmers and Necros. With just Banish Enchantment+Opportune Extraction (trait)+Spontaneous Destruction (trait) you can strip boons at an incredibly high rate. I suspect Mace (spamable poison) Malyx Revenants are going to trash stomp (specially) cele elementalists like there’s no tomorrow.
They seem to be tailor made for zerging: Low CD tripple blasts on Mace, or two Low CD blasts and 50% uptime on proyectile reflector (with a low CD also!) on Hammer (which also has AoE knockdown and incredibly high power coeficients on its attacks), they have the second (or third if you count Conjure LH!) Lightning field in the game (Inspiring Reinforcement) for those swiftness blasts shenanigans!
Given all the weakensses I will mention below, they seem to have a very strong battle presece (like Guardians), with weakness here and there, a lot of area denial, 2 healing skills and the orbiting healing globes on the Invocations trait lines (among others).
Weaknesses to note from the revenant so far (I say it agan, SO FAR, we have yet to see other Legends and weapons):
0 mobility outside of combat (see Warrior’s greatsword, sword or thieves shortbow or dagger for high mobility out of combat), so they are pretty much walking turtles like Guardians or Mesmers; it can be even worse than these as we haven’t seen a passive 25% speed increase or means to attain swiftness at all (besides blasting Inspiring Reinforcement) .
The disengage potential is 0 to none (no instant teleport, no non-targeted leaps, stealth or invulnerability skills either), sorry WvW solo roamers.
They seem to have a severe lack of stun breakers, coming only from a single trait called Empty Vessel which is a Grand Master trait on the Invocations trait-line (which so far seems that it’s going to be mandatory for sPvP) but it also forces you to swap legends in order to break a stun, and from the Elite Rite of the Great Dwarf which has a high energy cost (and a high cast time).
They don’t gain vigor at all! Having an Energy sigil aquipped at all times is going to be also mandatory (for pvp)! They don’t have evade skills either!
Very poor actual condition removal, they are condition tanks though.
Resource management is key. If thieves fvack up and ran out of ini they just shadow step away or reset with SR. If you ran out of energy on Rev and your Legend swap is on CD, you can only AA (which should mean a quick death on team fights).
With that said, It expect all these weaknesses to be slightly mitigated with the remaining offensive and/or support stances. They are going to be a total of four from what it looks like (Mhenlo and Shiro?).
(edited by Khenzy.9348)
you guys do realize that necros can remove resistance….
and 15 seconds of resistance is no more harder to deal with then berserker stance.
ugh, i hate feeling like i’m spelling doom, but those weapon skills looked ridiculously strong. the mace AA with a 4 second torment would allow for a torment upkeep of 8 stacks. EIGHT. and that’s not even accounting condi duration or other skills that also apply torment.
from the stream, energy seemed to generate way too fast to be even something you have to worry about. most skills utility spent 20-30 energy, which you regain faster than the cooldown refreshes, so it hardly seems like managing energy will be a big deal unless you have your upkeep skill on all the time.
what with all the special new mechanics and tools, the revenant skills all look like much stronger versions of skills other professions have. the fact that the old professions can’t have access to any of those cool new mechanics (multiple blasts, cascade skills, directional attacks, etc) without specializing makes me worry about what will be of the core professions. “specialize or go home” is not something i’d like to see.
hopefully this is all needless doom and gloom and the profession will be nicely tweaked by released, and the old professions won’t be forgotten.
I also hope those UI changes get spread to other classes too. They looked pretty

yeah, see, i don’t want that. i want the base classes to be just as viable of an option as a specialization, not the “training stages” of the profession, with the specializations being where you finally get your hands on the “big boy toys”.
you guys do realize that necros can remove resistance….
and 15 seconds of resistance is no more harder to deal with then berserker stance.
It not only has a relatively low CD (considering the higher relative CD necros have on boon removal), it also cleanses a condition on team mates while providing them the Resistance boon. It’s seems very very strong on paper against condi comps with boon removal or not.

No it doesnt cleanses a condition it transfers them to the revenent. I think boon removel will actually pretty strong against revenants. A good timed cboon (e.g. when they have high bleed and torment stacks) will hurt alot. Combine that with a fear and they are ether forced to switch legends (for stunbreak) and lose access to the resistence skills (and then die) or simply die.

Descripiton says a condition is absorbed from your team mate to you (revenant), so in other words, it’s cleansed from your team mates (not from you, obviously). It’s tranfered, not copyed, so what I said is technically right.
A good timed Corrupt Boon on a Rev full of condis with his Legend on CD is going to hurt him/her, yeah. What does Resistance convert into, though?
I already clarified such a skill is going to be really strong on team fights against condi comps.

How is a aoe 1 condition “cleanse” more useful against condition comps then lets say bunker guards, eles etc. which have a ton of actual aoe cleanses? The only thing that may be strong is the aoe resistance but that is only 2 seconds (note: only the self resistance gets stronger the more conditions the revenant has). I think outright removing conditions is still stronger then having a few seconds of resistance. But unless we play it, i guess everything is nothing more then speculation.
There’s additional counter play for condi necros if Mallyx condi draws end up being used a bunch; epidemic will put them all right back where they came from. Revenants could provide good incentive to slot that on your bar.
