Scribing should be Guild-wide!!
At least you have a scribe. I wanted to be the scribe for our guild (I’m on the most of all of us anyway) but we haven’t even managed the workshop yet. A nice person has put me in his guild which has the scribe station, and I started … and stopped after making the most basic backpack. Even low levels of the profession are a serious mats sink. I shan’t be making snow piles for us, I’m sure.
It really doesn’t work as an individual’s profession, not with the horrid amounts of mats needed for the most basic items.

I agree. Guilds fund the leveling of the scribe and it’s primarily used for making things for guilds (and just a few legendary-related items). However, I haven’t seen a lot of support for the idea. :/

Or just make it on par with other crafting professions.
Makes far more sense to me than some of the absurd material requirements.
Shush, stop making sense.
Shush, stop making sense.
Making sense is not PC. HoT = NGE
It is extremely demanding indeed. I have finally managed to get to level 50. But even the fists decorations require level 75. Which I expect will require the already too scarce soft wood. sigh
Yeah, it should be. Besides, the requeriments for every upgrade in the guild hall are far from reasonable for small guilds, like ours. I don’t think the game should encourage to form bigger and bigger guilds, because that’s not the reason to make one. This way you only encourage people to recruit more and more players only for the benefit of gold and materials themselves, and the true spirit of guilds (in a game called Guild Wars, btw) is lost. There should be an adaptation for requirements depending on the size of the guild. What do you think?
+1 scribing should be a Guild Level, and the craft made into a normal cost for levelling on characters.
More recipes for it, and what you can level on pushes the guilds overall Scribal Knowledge.

While I agree scribing is too expensive and probably should have a different mechanism, the first scribe decorations start at 50, not 75. I’m scribe 51 right now. I’ve so far made a fancy chair and a guild banquet schematic. Other things you can make at 50 include cermanic planter, festival tent, Large square pillar, in fact there are 17 decorations you can make at 50. However almost all of htem contain stuff I need for other guild hall upgrades. It’s badly thought out.
It might be you can’t see those things until your guild upgrades to the decoration merchant in the market place, which we just did.

I was going to say, all that plant stuff is behind a 200 linseed oil and 200 coarse sandpaper wall. :p Which funnily enough is things you need alot for other upgrades as well as the decorations themself, especially Linseed oil. Our linseed oil treasury max is at 1000. Like, really?! That’s 20k flax seeds. That’s at least 700 days per person (so the bigger your guild, the less of an issue, OR when you’re rich you buy it) on the flax seed farm.

I’m not sure about that.
I leveled my scribe to 400 alone; it took me a good amount of money & time.
Most(literally all) of what I crafted went to Guild furniture: vault access, WB event, banners, decoration…..
I would agree with having the scribing becoming guild wide if all materials used to craft the basic thing in scribe were made guild bound.
By those I mean mainly resonnating sliver (pigment pouch also) not being sellable on Trading post.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resonating_Sliver
When an item is sellable for almost 1 gold on Trading Post and you can possibly make 10 of them because of a guild mission: I doubt that most guild members will think twice between selling them & give them to the guild.
When you reach around crafting level 200, these are what really hurt the most:
Level 0 & 75 : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resonating_Sliver
level 0: Need 3 to craft anything.
level 75: need 5 to craft anything.
Level 150 & 225: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resonating_Fragment
level 150: Need 3 to craft anything -> 9 slivers= 9 gold.
level 225: need 5 to craft anything -> 15 slivers= 15 gold.
Level 300: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resonating_Core
Need 3 to craft anything -> 27 slivers= 27 gold.
Level 400: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resonating_Lodestone
Need 3 minimum to craft anything -> 81 slivers = 81 gold.
Another big issue is actually sand in the finishing kit that is used for every decoration.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Coarse_Sand
Flax is less of a problem to me because usually most of my guildies are usually playing in the HoT maps. So there is a regular supply of flax.
But as sand is only available in SW; this result in the neccesity to buy it all on Trading post as I don’t have a lot of guildie playing there.

Getting to 400 scribing should cost 500g max, anything more is unacceptable for a personal crafting skill. Our guild is boycotting scribing until it is fixed to something reasonable.

You are right. I was referring to the Wintersday decorations the OP mentioned.
Scribing should get completely reworked and rebalanced.
1) It should work exactly like a Crafting Job like all others
2) It should be accessable like all other Crafting Jobs from Towns like LA, with the difference, that these NPCs talk with you only, when you own HoT, because you need to do something in HoT so that they declare you as worthy to become their pupils to learn from them how to become Scribes
3) The Costs of things to create need to get reduced to a normal level, so that creating a Scribe 500 costs maximum as said above only 500Gold
4) Things you create as Scribe should be ALL also sellable via TP
5) The Buff Items you can create as Scribe need to get buffed/changed, they are totally useless with their effects they have currently.
I don’t know about guild-wide, but it certainly shouldn’t take an entire guild donating materials to support leveling one scribe. The costs are beyond ridiculous.
15 Charrs do not agree. Then again 15 Charrs also understand the concept of organization.
