there are inactive tiers in WvW and tier one has an alliance that has only recently (this week) been messed with. i would also imagine the in game productivity on a server base would be lessened in lag if we had less servers with a higher population setting. i would like to know if these known issues will be re-vamped in the HoT release.

It’s not always about winning, sometimes its about losing without feeling used.

What I have experienced from my ventures into WvW, that a guilds will vacate their original server to move to a “higher tiered” server to get more exposure. I was a member of two guilds that have done this rather than help cultivate the WvW culture on their original servers.

I think you have that backwards, less servers means more people per server, would seem like it would cause more lag, not less.
Unless you somehow think the time spent maintaining more servers causes less effort be put into maintaining each individual one? That’s not usually the case from what I’ve seen.

And yeah several of our larger WvW guilds abandoned us for more winning servers, didn’t want to put in the effort themselves so they joined someone else gravy train and we’ve never been the same since.

Eh… the game just went F2P… give it a week or so for all those free players to hit 60+ and start joining WvW populations. You would be surprised how quickly population issues become a thing of the past.

Server consolidation doesn’t solve any of the underlying conditions which cause some servers to stay full and others to be less active. Far better for ANet to do things which promote stronger competition than to consolidate, especially since forcing servers together usually annoys more people than not.

Now a days, it’s pretty hard to cultivate a low population server, mega servers took care of that. Back when you could go into PvE and get players on your server to hop in to WvW it was possible but long gone are those days.

On the contrary, it’s easier now. Previously, low-pop server recruiters had few options for bringing in fresh blood. Now, every PvE map includes people from other servers, increasing the potential recruitment population by leaps & bounds.

(Of course “easier” doesn’t mean “easy” — it’s definitely challenging to get people to consider WvW and even more difficult to convince them to move, since the minimum cost is 500 gems, ~75 gold in April and ~125 gold this week, although that’s less than $10 if you use cash to buy them.)

Keep in mind that f2p folks can’t move servers, and are stuck on the server they selected at creation. Never underestimate the aversion to spending money from a f2p population. I think f2p will significantly bolster the population of lower tiers.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read. You’re really reaching there aren’t you ?
