Everyones angry, and I agree with them.

Old players SHOULD GET SOMETHING if they’re paying for the base game, and the expansion, when a new player only has to pay for the base game.

I payed 40 dollars for this game.

Now, I need to pay another 50, and someone who hasn’t bought the game only has to pay 50.

Show your support with your wallet, people, DO NOT BUY THIS EXPANSION if you you feel this isn’t right. Bad business is bad business. I love GW, I have been a fan of it for years, but this is low as hell, and its mostly because they’re bagging on the original players. If it was 50 dollars, and it gave things to Original players to make up for it, like a character slot, the extras, ect, then i’d be fine, but, this is just scummy. People say its the cold world of economics, but economics ain’t always right. Vote with your wallet.

After seeing seeing John Smith’s sarcastic response in a thread about the bundling, and after seeing the FAQ revision mere hours ago, I already decided not to buy the xpack.

I feel so stupid. It bothers me so much I’m still on the forums wondering how I could be so stupid for buying this game in the first place. The warning signs were all there: in-app purchases (so to speak), gambling, number-pushing, and flashing lights. These are all the design strategies of video poker, and we’re all just junkies.

Thats actually what I meant when he said cold hard economics, that was kittening awful. That did NOTHING to you know, actually solve the problem. It was an awful thing to do, and really messed up. That made me more angry than anything, that the developers would begin taunting angry users about a fair argument?

I’m glad you’re here responding. It was hard for me to read his comment. I’ve made my fair share of stupid purchases (not too many, but a few), and felt stupid about them. I don’t think I’ve ever had someone essentially laugh at me about something stupid that I purchased from them. I felt violated by that joke.

I’m actually downloading Final Fantasy XIV right now. You know, it hurts, it hurts bad. I played gw1, I went through an adventure where the company supported the loyalty of the player, now, it seems to be gone. Forsake this land, for now anyways. I’ll of course pop in to play with my friends in GW2, but, unless they make an actual answer, and not just mock their users, then, they aren’t getting as friggin dime out of me.

I imagine the ongoing HoM issue didn’t help your feelings on this. I know they’re working on it and it takes time to fix stuff, and they’ve been trying to get balance changes and new content ready—nonetheless, I know a lot of GW1 veterans are upset. (I’m not a GW1 vet).

i am doing the exact same thing. I am somewhat depressed and disgusted. I personally spend around $150 for a collector’s edition of the core game, only to get hammered like this.

1) at least one character slot for every version of the expansion
2) a standalone key code for the base game with every version of the expansion.

These two things would go a long way in calming the kittenstorm Anet just started.

I am going to show my support by buying the $99 from my next paycheck. I don’t see anything wrong with this and have been playing since GW1 beta.

you, sir, are either a fool, or have too much money to the point that you dont have anything better to do with it. on top of that, people like you result in ANet not fixing their stuff since bat-kitten crazy people like you will do any thing.

Most of the complaint are based on here say and hype. Yes it would have been nice if Anet added a character slot to the basic expac but it’s not a deal breaker for me and as for those that recently purchased the game it has been posted by Anet on Reddit that they will exchange for the HoT pre sale but not sure how far back they plan to go most likely 30 days but don’t quote me on that, so they are trying to work things out.

I’m in a difficult position. I want the expansion, and feel that (since I am considering Ultimate likely right now) the sum total of what I get WILL be worth the purchase price (but not in the way they imply – that IS $50 of gems, after all, and I’m a frequent shopper of cosmetics and account upgrades).

But on the other hand, Standard Edition’s pricing is simply unconscionable towards loyal players. I get what they’re doing, for new players – I do. But applying that key to a game that already has the core game should have some alternative to compensate. It doesn’t have to be much, even $10 worth would be something.

So, for now, I am going to hold off. Not just on the purchase, but on the decision.

You don’t have to change the prices of Deluxe and Ultimate, Arenanet. You don’t even, technically, have to change the price on Standard. Just make… make a HoT-Only edition. Price it at $30-35. Or, alternately, make the Standard Edition give a nominal, non-exclusive reward (basically, something that exists in-game, but would at least show you care) to accounts that already have the base game.

I’ve been supporting your work for nine years. I still have a lot of faith in you. But right now, your actions are imposing on that faith. Primarily as regards your community relations – something that, until John Smith posted, had been a mostly positive experience.

At the very, very least, you owe us a better reply than “You rang?” Not replying at all would have earned you less animosity than that.
