It is disgusting that your Game become more and more a place which kittening up people. Your Guildhall system is bad and really bad for smaller Guilds. Make those kitten items tradeable. It makes no sense to promote scams!

Take actions? In what? Ban? Did you think a ban would stop scams?

There is a simple Solution. Make them tradeable (Guildhall Mats). Account Bound is a really bad decision because yeah it promotes Scams and Criminal actions.

Some scams are easier to avoid than others. Anyone looking to buy account-bound shovels in the expectation that the seller will dutifully join your guild and donate the shovels after payment is perhaps a bit too trusting.

On a related note, I’ve reported a few people this week for advertising shovels for sale in LFG.

This is exactly the problem with and for smaller guilds. Many can’t do the missions regularly or at all and therefore no favor earned. One aspect of the old influence system that should have been retained is the guild party boost of influence (now favor) for participating in PvE map events as a guild party or group.

Added to this is the requirement for us to use Soulbound or Accountbound items to an unreasonable degree. This leaves smaller guilds in this position of being scammed. We only have two actually active enough to build our hall (omg the hours of farming so far) but we’re lucky enough to have friends in other guilds we can trust so haven’t been scammed yet. Shovels are one item only, add to this list the PvP Progress Reward Orbs along with a few other items (Celestial Imbued shiny soulbound thing of Oricalchum garbage for example), just make it so we use stuff that’s found on the maps, we’re not overly keen on the amount of mats needed but we live with it and struggle on (almost at level 16 with just the two of us) but a method of accruing favor OTHER THAN just doing Guild Missions needs to be implemented especially seeing as the gating doesn’t seem to be working quite as planned and big guilds are still able to grow a lot faster than expected (more power to them I say) but smaller guilds are suffering the wrath of the grind whereas party favor bonuses would help smaller guilds.

I’m not recommending for a second that it be as high an amount as it was for influence but at least earning a small amount of favor through partying up with a couple of guildies in Pve or other maps will assist the smaller guilds immeasurably. Just to qualify the "smaller guild" I’m talking about guilds with 10-50 members (many of which will be inactive currently) leaving perhaps 3-5 members to carry out the hall upgrades, we have 87 members many of whom will return at some point (due to work commitments etc (some are on deployment ergo we won’t kick them)) but for the smaller groups we still need another method of earning favor (maybe even do the Letters thing like we could buy influence before the changes).

Dunno what the solution is but I really hope they come up with a resolution soon or there isn’t any real reason now to party up as guildies (no benefits at all now) which will make recruiting to smaller guilds even harder than it is now.

PS: Any smaller guilds that need an extra hand or two can feel free to message me, if we’re able to help we’re only too happy to do so.

ANet won’t return your gold or shovels, but will ban people for scamming. (Usually not for a first offense.)

However, ANet is powerless to act until people report (and ideally, document) the scam.

  • Be wary of anyone offering to sell (or buy) account bound items.
  • If you do agree to purchase them, take screenshots of the agreement. Recommended: get them to email you with exactly what they are promising to do, for how much, and when they are supposed to do it.
  • Don’t pay all the money up front; don’t give up all of the account bound items up front.
  • Take the relevant screenshots of the guild history tab after a successful transaction, in case there are disputes later.
  • If the transaction did not complete, contact ANet by creating a support ticket and include the relevant documentation. Be calm, be assertive, and be polite; that turns out to matter as much as the documentation. Don’t expect any refunds.

tl;dr caveat emptor (and report scammers to ANet)

Better yet, get them to mail you in game the details of the agreement. Keep that email until such time as they finish their end of the agreement. Or say explicitly that they will donate X item to Y guild for Z gold. That way the guy can’t go “well, that’s not my email.” And you can’t be sure if he emailed you from his GW2 account email or not.

As a side note, the shovels are not that hard to get. Just hop onto the event train in Silverwastes. They run all the time. The shovel drop rate is not huge but you’ll get a few each cycle, along with loads of other loot so it is quite lucrative. Obviously, the more guildies who go the quicker you get the shovels you need.

Exactly this ^. When trading items that are not meant to be traded or trying to avoid TP fees, you then accept and take responsibility for any possible consequence. If you don’t want that risk, simply do-not-do-it. If you do it, it was your choice and no one else’s.
So you’re only left with the bad choice you made.

Let me say, tho , that it’s completely buyer’s fault.
Same as if you want to trade things with another through ingame mail.
YOU KNOW you can get scammed.
The game promotes you to get them by regular play and that should be the way.

If we wanna talk about the required quantities and difficulties for small guilds, well, you might be right.

I was avoiding pointing fingers, or trying to. I will agree that there is fault on the side of the buyer. I will agree there is risk involved. However, these ‘sellers’ are just as much at fault, for being kittenty individuals. But, like I said, I was trying not to go there.

As for required quantities…maybe Anet should up the drop rate for shovels a little bit. I can’t say ‘give us a way to purchase them’ because that sort of skews things in favor of chest trains, potentially a bit much. Which would result in yet more loot nerfs. I’ll take a pass on that.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

It’s not a bad decision to decide to buy a service from someone that you’d rather not do yourself. People are supposed to mow their own lawns or take care of dusting, but plenty of folks hire others to do that for them.

However, given the game has no way of ensuring that people deliver on services (or P2P trades for that matter), everyone doing so should be aware of the risk and take appropriate steps to protect themselves and, as with anyone buying a service, be willing to accept the consequences if the provider doesn’t deliver as advertised.

By the way, if anyone reading is still tempted to buy a donation of account-bound items from non-guildies: don’t buy them all at once and instead buy only a few at a time. That decreases the likelihood of scamming and minimizes the guild’s financial exposure. It’s obviously a lot less convenient for both parties, but then again, I’m sure there are at least a few guilds (or GLs) who have scammed in the opposite direction, too.
