Guild Wars 2

Just out of interest, if I put the money in for this expansion, do I get some character slots like in the old GW1 expansions? Otherwise I’m going to be annoyed that to keep using my account I’ll have to fork over 800 gems when you can get five character slots on a new account for 9 bucks.

No confirmation on this. Wait and see.

Why would you have to spend money to keep using your account. You can keep using your account, you just wouldn’t be able to make a character of the new class, assuming you don’t have any slots left.

I’d like at least one. Each GW expansion added 2 new classes and 2 new character slots, so I think since we are getting 1 new class, we get 1 new character slot.

Oh would need to spend money to try out the new character class that’s offered, not really very economical to destroy one of my existings with their various craftings at 500.

i was gonna ask the same question. I sure hope we do.

ill probably just buy a character slot the next time they go on sale. im sure there will be one before the expansion goes live. If the expansion does come with a slot or 2 then ill just have another slot for characters

The one and only Guild Wars 1 expansion actually didn’t add a single character slot.

Also keep in mind that at release we got 5 slots. One for each race.
Not 8 slots, one for each profession.

If we had a new race I wouldn’t doubt that we would get another slot, but since we are not, it is unlikely. Maybe if they add a digital deluxe or something that comes with a slot (and other goodies).

Those were not expansions, they were stand alone games that you could connect with Prophecies and each other. The only real expansion for GW1 was Eye of the North which would work with any of the three stand alones. It had no new character slots.

I would assume so and if they do, we would get one character slot to make an Revenant since in Faction and Nightfall we were given two slots to make the new professions.

Would be really nice to have that extra slot. Saves me 800 gems, although char slots will prob go on sale around release. Would make sense anyway.

The base game had 4 slots, which again, is not enough to have one per profession, unless you counted secondary professions (and if you do, technically with Ascension you could have all on one…) – however, every time a new profession was released, a new slot was added for it.

It could go either way, really, since arguably the way they did it in the past was because the alternative of putting a new purchase on a new account entirely was always available, and that would get you four slots, so they probably kinda felt that they had to give SOME slots to the people who were combining accounts rather than making entirely new ones. However, they didn’t want to give a full set of four, otherwise people with multiple campaigns (keeping in mind that they originally weren’t planning to stop at 3) would quickly amass a ridiculous number of character slots. Two was a reasonable compromise, because it allowed one of the main draws of getting a campaign to actually be a draw to getting the campaign (when Factions was originally released, there was no cash shop, so not releasing more slots would have meant players that already had full accounts would have had no space to make Canthan characters) and allowed players to experience both new professions without it being a case of everyone making a Rt/A or an A/Rt as the only ways of doing so.

So it could go either way. Bottom line, though, is that pithy phrases like “The one and only Guild Wars 1 expansion actually didn’t add a single character slot” aren’t definitive here, because Heart of Thorns is something very different to Eye of the North. EotN was, basically, half introduction to GW2 concepts and half making sure that work that had gone into Utopia didn’t get left to rot. Heart of Thorns is looking to be a shakeup of how GW2 works that will probably be bigger than any of the GW1 addons, whether semi-standalone campaigns or expansion packs.

Adding a new class in a paid expansion without offering at least one new character slot would be an all time low in MMO gaming.

It is like charging customers twice to get to the content.

ANet will not do this, if they want to keep any credibility as an AAA developer.

If they do, they need to increase the maximum number of character slots. The cap now is 64, and me(and others of course) have already hit that cap.

Indeed. I also think we will not get a character slot. ArenaNet is likely desperate like that to milk their players any way they can, so I expect them to want players to buy a character slot.

Totally agree, and ya I’ve also reached the currently limited of the character slots.. I would like to see increased for the character slots so we could create more characters of the new profession and also the old ones aswell,

But since this topic is hot right now, I believe Anet will increase the limit,
Otherwise it would just be dumb move to not increase the slots.
