Q:

So is this the end of the living world episodes or are we going to still get living world episodes after the expansion pack?

The expansion is not living world episodes. There has been nothing said if the living world will continue after expansion yet, but it could possibly be used as content in between expansions.

I doubt it. Season 2 was overall well received, so I believe the LS will continue after the expansion, although I have no idea how the two will interact.

I’m guessing they’ll keep the LS going in a similar way to season 2 and use it as set up each time they want to release a new expansion/large update.

think of guild wars as an anime – the main game/expansions are story arcs and the living story are filler arcs

Just like what Getefix said. Since they used LS Season 1 and 2 to lead up to the expansion, I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to do that for any other future expansions we may have.

My guess is we won’t get to kill Mordremoth within the first patch of HoT. Instead, there will be another Living Story updates that lead into the final fight.

Just my guess based on how WoW expansions are handled. The final raid is not released right away.

My hope, as it was from the start with the Living Story, is that the Living World would be used to update the content in the older zones and moving stories along that have laid dormant for years. For example, the Charr and Humans have been negotiating their treaties in Fields of Ruin for three years now. Surely there is some progress there. Or what about the Durmand Priory’s efforts in Dredgehaunt Cliffs, have they successfully routed the dredge and uncovered new artifacts or mini-dungeons to explore? So many dynamic event chains end unsatisfactorily, or in a way that promises future updates to the stories they tell. It’s be a shame to have them stuck in time forever.

Expansions can be for major story updates and moving the overall “main” narrative along. I’d like the Living Story to focus on progressing the sub-stories going on all around Tyria.

It won’t be the end of the living world, the living world is a series of updates that will push the storyline towards the major expansions such as how season one and two had directly led to the HoT expansion.

I firmly doubt that the living world will have any affect on HoT, the full expansion should be available on release the same way GW2 was fully playable on release.

Living world season 3 would take place after the events of HoT and at that time Anet will direct the game towards another major conflict.
