I won’t. I want to get used to the revenant, from 1 to level 80. My other two characters are still there if I wish to explore, if not it can wait untill my Revenant is level 80.

I certainly wont if I make a Rev. I never do with a new class – I prefer to level them
6 month wait? Are you referring to the release date for HoT? If so, as far as I’m aware, no release date has been released.
Also, I’ll be one of those instant level 80s, mainly because after 13+ level 80s of all different builds, I’m fairly confident that I’ll be able to pick up all the skills and tricks to playing the Revenant without taking the slow path.

Will the expansion be timed then? Seeing as you seems to imply that if you don’t do it as soon as it is released, you will miss out on it.

I’m more interested in specializations, so making a revenant is actually going to be one of the later things I will do. You don’t speak for everyone OP.
You assume everyone wants to play a Revenant.
I won’t likely make a revenant right away and when I do, I’ll be leveling it the old way.

I can certainly enjoy the new expansion content with my existing 9 LVL 80s while enjoying leveling my new Revenant. Your logic is flawed.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
If the forum posts translate even slightly to the game population as a whole, it sounds like the majority of players will level their Revenant manually.
So what?
All of my characters are level 80. Only 3 by leveling, rest was with tomes.
I still go out and explore and do quests. Why? Because it’s really fun to do so in this game.

yes, because every single player has enough tomes to even reach lvl 80……
i sure don’t, would like to but for now it’s a no go anyway because my speed on lvling is on snail pace speed…..

I didn’t have any left before they changed the dailies and now I have 45 or so just from logging in every day and taking a WvW keep whenever that daily was active. (I never did the fractal daily to get a tome, nor did I choose the tomes in the end of the “month” box)
Plus, I have 2 Instant level 20 scrolls so they’ll help.
My point is, if you log in every day and do the WvW keep dailies and Fractal dailies then you’ll have more than enough for when the expansion releases.

Set an alarm on your phone when you usually have downtime to at least log into the game, the log in rewards are worth it, takes 30 seconds
I’ll be jumping into HoT with one of my existing 80’s when the expansion hits and starting my Revenant a bit later, while leveling normally.
I’m not even going to make a revenant. I’m still hoarding all those leveling scrolls, but I don’t really know why at this point
I think those who use their tomes to insta-80 a Revenant will miss out on a lot. They’d have to learn the profession’s mechanics all at once after their stack of tomes runs out, without the gradual and casual process by leveling normally. I would encourage people to just play the Revenant as normal, but hey, play how you want, not how you’re told.

I learn best by having all my skills, traits and gear ready and useable so I can learn all the various combos and synergies within the class. The way the leveling system is now doesn’t give people a chance to experiment and learn until you’re already high level. So I will definitely be using my tomes on my revenant, it will be worth it.

That’s only really an issue for people that haven’t played multiple classes and various builds. Once you’ve “mastered” multiple playstyles it’s easier to adapt to a brand new one.
I personally find the way traits are gained so late in the level up process tedious as a class can play entirely different at 80 as it does levelling (mesmer being the most extreme difference, in my opinion).

I disagree.
When you learn skill by skill, you don’t see the whole picture.
When you have all your skills at once you can see the interactions between them and you can experiment with builds.
If it’s your first character, sure, take your time. Get used to how GW2 works. But if you already have good experience with the game, then you should be able to take full advantage of a lvl 80 revenant with no problem.
I’ll be instant levelling my revenant (probably two of them). Even though this might take away the “levelling experience”, I’ve already done that many times and it doesn’t really excite me that much anymore.
However, because this is a new class, there will still be a lot of pioneering that needs to be done as far as builds go. So even though I’ll have it instantly at level 80, I’ll still need to play around with it a lot to learn about the profession’s skills and see what sort of cohesive builds I can make. Thus there will still be a lot of “new” stuff to look forward to, even if the character just hits level 80 instantly (and all the skills are unlocked from skill scrolls).
Mind you, one can more or less do this in sPvP already, though there are some restrictions there.
Just adding in for funsies: I won’t be rolling revenant for a while. I’ll be exploring the new areas with one to three of my “main” characters first, as well as playing with their specilizations to try and find new builds.
But when I do roll Revenant I will be power leveling it, just like I have every character since my third or fourth. But I won’t be skipping/missing any content.
Doing map completion/Story on an underleveled character? Hate it. Drives me crazy.
Doing map completion/Stories on a fully leveled character, with all their utilities and traits unlocked (so I can actually have a build, as opposed the hodge podge mess a lowbie is stuck with) that I find fun.
It’ll also give my ample opportunities to explore what a Revenant can do: stick to blues/greens and you can completely change your entire build everytime you go to start a new map (until you find the build that works for you, of course).
I still have to level a ranger, and I don’t have enough tomes even for that. I don’t get to play as much these days so I won’t be insta-80 anything. Besides I mostly want to try the new mesmer spec since mesmer is my main.
I’ll definitely use tomes when leveling a revenant. I don’t see a reason not to level as quickly as possible. Getting to level 80 doesn’t stop you from running through low level zones or playing through low level PS. Why not have access to the entire game asap? Not only can you enjoy the content provided at level 1, 4, 35, 70…, but you can enjoy the content offered at level 80. I don’t see a single downside to hitting level 80 asap.
I guess I don’t understand the mentality behind the people that would hit max level quickly if given the resources to do so. Maybe I’m misunderstanding and the people saying they are going to level without tomes are doing so because they don’t have tomes to level.

I leveled up all 8 classes with a mix of birthday scrolls, traditional leveling and cooking… I would rather people not pull this “judgement” stuff on my choice to use in game options to get a new class up to where “I” find the game fun.
Heck I would have the game revert back to a level 20 game like GW1 if I could… The game really works better with all the traits, runes and gear options and is silly levels of shallow before them.
If they have instalevel options then they are paying attention to at least one aspect of MMO life that’s necessary when you are in a game where your progression is directly tied to the max level you can be. So I applaud them if they are actually doing that. It’s very much necessary, and in this title where zones reduce your level to match the mobs, i think there will be far less of an impact as we’ve seen in other titles out there doing the same thing with leveling in expansions.
I am surprised to see this actually.
Nobody is going to actually have to level up the new profession if they play normally. Just use all the xp books by that point.
Going to be funny seeing all the insta level 80’s in August..
Your topic name is an off topic lie.
You know some people actually enjoy leveling characters, right?
some people dont.
so its Win Win if you ask me.
I dont see the problem..
I’ve already leveled 9 chars to 80 and feel confident that I can safely bypass the learning how to autoattack, weapon swap, and getting my first utility skill. In fact, at this stage I feel confident enough to cope with having all the weapon, utility and elite skills immediately available for me to experiment with freely without suffering “new player confusion.”
I’ll play one of my old chars in the new area and the Revenant in a level 80 area such as Frostgorge. When I have it figured out to my satisfaction I’ll move it to the new area.
Is there a confirmed release date for August?

No. Speculation.

If you don’t want to level the “normal” way you could try joining an EotM XP train. During the double experience weekend I got a warrior character from level 25 up to 80 in roughly 4-5 hours of that. It may not be quite as quick anymore (though consumables help – birthday booster especially), but still takes a lot less time than stockpiling tomes.

I myself plan to hybridize this. I’m still planning to make an insta-80 (already have my scrolls saved) with full ascended items and upgrades, but after he gets out of the tutorial area i’ll just do map completion. and then continue personal story.
(Me: But you said go out and help people o-o
Priestess Amelia: I know i did, but going around the entire world non-stop is a little extreme don’t you think?
me:… no.
Priestess Amelia: o-o)
The Revenant’s lore and look doesn’t interest me, so I’ll keep using those level up scrolls and whatnot on my other existing lowbies.

Not everybody would do that though. Yeah, some will just level to 80 and go through the new expansion content immediately, while others will just simply take their time doing the core story and then do the expansion stuff later.
