So, slogging through everything on the forums is becoming a chore. I’m just curious; I had over 1000 skill points on my main prior to the patch, due to endless wvwvw play. Today, I have 200-something Mastery points for my Elite. What happened to those other skill points? Did they convert into something, or did the last several hundred hours of playtime just get erased becuse Arenanet was afraid of me having earned an Elite Specialization without going through the new content?

They went poof.

They were converted into Spirit Shards.

Back when Traits were rebalanced into what we now call Specializations, Skill Points (the blue chevrons) were decommissioned. Everybody now uses a finite currency called Hero Points, which are used primarily for unlocking skills and traits.

And no, your time was not wasted. For every Skill Point you had, you should now have a Spirit Shard. These are basically only be used for buying stuff from Miyani (mystic forge).

All the skillpoints turned into useless garbage spirit shards
