Try sending a support a ticket, explaining your silliness, and asking nicely if they can help you remedy your issue.
They may not be able to, but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Send in a ticket. They have been known to help out with hard to acquire or extremely expensive items that someone made a mistake on.
ANet may give it to you.
Just send in a ticket, they help out with these things all the time.
If you get a GM that refuses to help you, just send in another ticket.
Took me 4 tickets before i finally got a GM that was kind enough to restore my celebration hat a while ago.

Wow. That totally sucks.
I mean, everyone makes mistakes, so I’d think they’d want to help you out with that since it’s such a loss of money and mats.
I had a similar issue when I started and didn’t realize two of the same ascended ring couldn’t be put onto a single character… sent a ticket… anet not only gave me the ring I had originally intended to purchase, but never removed the second ring I had accidently purchased!
At first I thought WOW! So nice! They let me keep such a rare and hard to come across item as an ascended ring… then I started doing fractals. xD
But in all seriousness send it in because Anet’s support team is cool about that kinda stuff.
Not been in this situation, and I’ve only been playing the game 3 months, but… Anet support is amazing. These guys “get” that our enjoyment is a priority.
