Whenever I see that one of the PvE Dailies is “Heart of Maguuma Miner”, I inwardly groan. Because out of all of the gathering nodes (foraging and lumber), mining is the least common in the Heart of Thorns maps, and I find myself jumping from WP to WP until I finally find enough ore to complete the Daily. Whereas with the other two, I can finish much quicker and without traveling far or getting myself into unnecessary danger.
Has anyone else noticed or struggled with this?
It hasn’t been a problem for me. I start at the VB entry wp and move north, if I’m actually gathering in the map. There’s often a node on the little plateau just north, then a couple more in the raid entry area, and if I don’t get a gathering boost extra whack on one of those, I can mosey on up past Jaka Itzel to the ramp heading up to the wyvern plateau and find one along there.
That’s if I don’t just hop into a guild hall and mine the nodes in the workplace there. No danger at all involved, and they count towards the daily.
Then there are the known spawn points for rich orichalcum veins in TD. But I don’t exert myself to check those for dailies given the above options.
I just go to my guild hall and mine the stuff there. Daily done. Ten seconds.
I find VB has an abundant supply of ore, wood and even more so – plants.
Also, as Vayne says, the Guild Hall counts (same way the Home Instance in the relevant area also counts)
I’ve never had much luck with the entry area of Verdant Brink. There’s usually one or two there, but not enough for the daily in my experience.
I usually go use the Eastern waypoint in Auric Basin. I’ve had a lot more luck in that area than anywhere else off the top of my head.
GH are very useful for the gathring dailies in HoT maps. But I do think that the maps themselves can sometimes be sparse on the nodes available and I’m not sure why

This is exactly what I do, unless it’s plant related, then I drop down to the flax field in Verdant Brink.

What if someone a) doesn’t have a big enough guild to have a Guild Hall or b) for some reason their Guild Hall doesn’t have gathering nodes?
That’s why I mentioned open world locations where one can find the nodes.

The nodes are still in the maps, just takes some hunting. Its not as if there aren’t enough nodes in the HoT maps to complete these achievements. But yes there are a few areas where it appears pretty barren, especially for a jungle
#GuildHalls
Though, I find nodes of all types to be pretty plentiful just from traveling. Hitting up one meta usually does it, especially if you course Auric Basin.
I also find that all node types become more rare (numbers reduced) and move from their more common locations when they are a daily, taking extra time to locate.
No tin hat—it’s just the way Anet controls things in the game.

I don’t find that at all. I have places I can go for almost every type of gathering any any day for any item to get it pretty fast. Not sure where you’re looking but it’s not like you’re suggesting.
For example, any mining daily at all in the open world (pre hot) can be gotten from a single rich node. Those nodes are in standard locations. Some never move.
Every single area has farms, for herb gathering, even HoT with the flax farm.
For example if it’s kryta farmer, I go to the farm in gendarran, in the north. If it’s ascalon gatherer, I go for the potato farm in Plains of Ashford.
If it’s krytan lumberer, there are always trees outside the gate from LA to Bloodtide Coast.
It almost never takes me more than a couple of minutes to do gathering stuff.
I know there are permanent rich locations, and forager farms etc, but the other ones tend to become rarer, more often than not when they are are a daily. It’s subjective, and is just my observations. So if you are just hitting the hot spots/rich nodes you might not notice.

When you provide some data to back up your collection, I might be more interested. We humans aren’t likely to notice when nodes are hard to come by, unless there’s a relevant daily. There’s a spot one of my character visits (provisioner tokens, ugh) and sometimes, there are 3 mithril nodes in range (enough for daily miner) and some times not — even in the same day, when I end up in different instances.
The spawning of nodes is random and unrelated to the not-random set of dailies.

No hard data, just my observations on the more frequent routes that I know very well. Some believe that all is random in the game, some do not. Neither side will convince the other to change their perception of the game regardless of who might be correct or if it is somewhere in the middle.

Those locations aren’t permanent. They appear in various places, but never the same one.

The only thing I’m trying to convince you of is that you don’t have any actual observations, just memories that are colored by your theory. Pick 5 of your routes. Each time you run it, write down the /IP & how many metal nodes you pass. Then compare that to how many times that region has mining as a daily.
Until you do that, you are, like all other humans, subject to confirmation bias: remembering evidence that confirms our impressions and ignoring examples where it does not.
I don’t know exactly what you’ll find. You might, as you suggest, be able to show that it’s not entirely random.
However, since you are the one making the claim, it’s up to you to provide the evidence.

There’s almost always enough nodes in the close victinity to starting waypoint on VB.

After farming all maps for 3 years I say it’s a fact nodes are diminished when on daily achievement 80% of the time. So says all my ingame friends and no, we’re not imagining things like someones standard answer always is in these threads.
I’d be interested in how that data or evidence other people ask for would look like, unless you suggest hacking into the server because I’m sure the company have taken steps so that it can’t be proven by regular players.

Yes, you are.
Start looking for nodes on some specified day (say, ores every Monday, wood every tuesday, plants every Wednesday), instead of checking daily first, and you will see what i mean.
The nodes are dispersed differently every day. Sometimes it’s near the waypoints you use, sometimes it’s not. It has no relation to dailies, you are just more prone to see they are badly arranged when you’re actually looking for them.
(fyi: the number of nodes of a given type on a map is mostly constant, what changes is their locations. You can check it easily just by going all over the map and counting).

I groan too when I see a HoT daily. I have HoT but you’d have to pay me irl money to get me to actually play there.

The story is the only reason I delved into the HoT maps (not that I liked the story, but it essentially was a form of motivation). As well as getting Mastery points.
But, yes, mining and lumbering seems a lot more difficult to do in HoT than foraging for some reason. Haven’t memorized the locations of those nodes.
