Will specializations give us new weapon skills with “old” weapons along with new utilities and elites?
Since we still haven’t had a blog post on specializations it is still a bit vague. However from what I have read it seems like specilizations will not give new weapon skills with old weapons. They only include: 1) 1 new weapon, 2) 1 new healing skill, 3) 1 new elite skill, 4) new utilities, 5) new traits (some think an entirely new trait line instead of one the old trait lines but this is not confirmed) and 6) a ‘changed profession mechanic’.
Current weapons will remain with the same skills, they can revamp a bit but the skill itself will be the same.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I think it all depends on how far they are willing to deviate from the original professions and their core mechanics.
For example, if they were to replace the phantasm or clone abilities for the mesmer with something else, that would require changes to every weapon the mesmer uses (as well as many traits). Likewise, if they changed thief initiative or ele attunements, that would require tweaking every weapon ability for those professions in some way.
Like others have said, though – we wont know until they tell us.
It really does seem to be the biggest piece of the picture still missing. Hopefully we can get a better idea soon.
