So this is my general speculation on how I think each specialization weapon could be chosen for all nine professions simultaneously by placing each profession in a row in a specific order based upon the weapon usability of the current eight professions and the determination of the weapon sets that will be available for the future ninth, the Revenant.

Factors

  1. The details provided us in the Heart of Thorns trailer and the Living Story S2 about the revealed four weapon specializations the Necromancers Great Sword Engineers Hammer Mesmer’s Shield and Ranger’s Staff.
  2. It has been stated that each profession will be given a “new weapon” assuming their referring to a weapon that has never been used by that profession before for example: the pistol wouldn’t be a candidate as a specialization for the Mesmer, because it’s already slotted as a weapon set for their off-hand.
  3. There are a grand total of 19 weapons in the game 4 have been revealed leaving 15 weapon usability sets; 12 if you choose not to include the trident spear and harpoon gun. Meaning 10 or 7 weapons will not be specialized.
  4. Each Profession, except for the Engineer due to its limited number of weapon sets, must be in a specific order whereby two professions must have the same weapon, whether it’s main-hand or off-hand, with the specialization Profession being placed in between the two.

Example: _Elementalist <Dagger> Warrior <Dagger> Thief

So here is a vertical list I have been able to make following the first three factors with the fourth being how each specialization weapon can be chosen.

Elementalist: Sword, Axe, Warhorn, Harpoon gun, Longbow, or Spear considering that both the Ranger; at the bottom of list, and Warrior are capable of wielding them. The sword being the most sought after out of the six, however the spear would also if its land based.

• Ranger <Sword? Spear? > Elementalist <Sword? Spear?> Warrior

Warrior: Dagger, considering that both the Elementalist and Thief are capable of wielding them.

• Elementalist <Dagger> Warrior <Dagger> Thief

Thief: Rifle, considering that both the Engineer and Warrior are capable of wielding them. This one was also the hardest to place.

• Warrior <Rifle > Thief <Rifle > Engineer

Engineer: Hammer, the placement may seemed forced, but I’m willing to state that it has to involve the engineer having the least amount of weapon sets of any profession being three.

Guardian: Pistol, considering that both the Engineer and Mesmer are capable of wielding them.

• Engineer <Pistol > Guardian <Pistol > Mesmer

Mesmer: Shield, if it becomes the Revenant‘s future weapon, the Guardian is capable of wielding one.

• Guardian <Shield > Mesmer <Shield > Revenant?

Revenant: Focus, Scepter, Spear, or Trident based upon the Mesmer and Necromancer professions. You’ll just have to make a guess out of these three I’m not very sure of the trident but I added it anyway.

• Mesmer <Focus? Scepter? Spear? > Revenant < Focus? Scepter? Spear? > Necromancer

Necromancer: Great Sword, if it becomes the Revenant‘s future weapon, the Ranger is capable of wielding one.

• Revenant? <Greatsword > Necromancer <Greatsword > Ranger

Ranger: Staff, considering that both the Necromancer and Elementalist are capable of wielding them.

• Necromancer <Staff> Ranger<Staff > Elementalist

Full list depicted horizontally:

Warrior <Dagger/Rifle> Thief <Rifle/Hammer> Engineer <Hammer/Pistol> Guardian <Pistol/Shield> Mesmer <Shield/4 Possibilities > Revenant < 4 Possibilities/Greatsword > Necromancer <Greatsword /Staff> Ranger < Staff/6 Possibilities > Elementalist <6 Possibilities /Dagger> Warrior: repeated

Also here is my speculation of the Revenants weapon sets based upon the factors above, just an opinion though.

Revenant Weapon Sets:

One-Hand:
Sword

Off-Hand:

Dagger
Sword?
Shield

Two-Hand:
Staff
Greatsword?

Underwater:
Spear?
Trident?

So what do you think?

Alright let me start over:

So the goal is to find the remaining five Professions specializations weapon by placing each of the professions in a specific order based upon their weapon sets, while guessing which weapon set the Revenant will have at the same time.

So for example if the Ranger and the warrior has a sword but the Elementalist does not then the Elementalist will have the possibility of the sword being a specialization weapon.

Example: Ranger <Sword> Elemenalist <Sword> Warrior

The warrior have the dagger as a specialization weapon because it is in between the elementalist and the thief.

Example: Elementalist <Dagger> Warrior <Dagger> Thief

and so on.

Elementalist -Sword
Engineer* -Hammer
Guardian -Pistol
Mesmer* -Shield
Necromancer* -Greatsword
Ranger* -Staff
Revenant -Focus
Thief -Rifle
Warrior -Dagger
Elementalist

I THINK i understand your thought, but it would be easier if you had posted the “order”

So (based on your work):
Ranger – Ele – Warri – Thief – Engi – Guard – Mesmer – Rev – Necro – Ranger (it’s a circle)

To follow your idea: Every Profession gets the weapon the profession before and the profession after can use both.

And as you mentioned: the engi does no fit in here. (Engi would have to be placed between Warri and Guard, because of the hammer – but would end in a dead end)

Also i hope that the Rev. won’t get the great sword
There are too many professions using it

But I think your spec. isn’t that bad (I mean the weapons you guessed)

I’m not seeing any evidence that the devs have or would follow this pattern, though. Unless I’m missing something?

Aside from availability charts, I’m pretty sure each profession will be getting the weapon that stands to work best with the theme and mechanics of the specialization.

Rangers had little to do with magic, hence druid and staff. Mesmers were poor against groups, hence aoe chronomancer and shield. Necros lacked big and heavy attacks outside of death shroud, hence raging necro with a greatsword. Engineers were bad at melee and focusing on a single target, hence drone-gineer and hammer.

I feel it’s more important to identify the key weaknesses of each profession and see which weapon can best fill the gap.

I should be writing.

Actually, Engineer would easily go between Guardian and Mesmer. Guardian giving him hammer and he giving Mesmer shield. Which in this case means it would probably be more appropriate of Guardian receiving short bow from Thief (or could rertain initial posters idea of pistol).

No because the Mesmer can’t use a Hammer. And according to this theory the profession gets the weapon which is used by the profession before and after

But at is was said I think the devs focused more on gameplay and mechanics.

Mesmer -> shield
Necro -> great sword
Engineer -> Hammer
Ranger -> Staff
Ele -> sword or mace (to fit Mesmer and necro)
Thief -> rifle (would also like offhand sword for some kind of duelist)
Warri -> Pistol (OH ranged) or dagger (evasiv attack)
Guard -> bow (because of his conjured weapons)
Rev -> very hard because we don’t know the weapon set yet … But focus could fit for a more ritualistic playstyle.

I hope the list will be more like this:

Mesmer > Shield (confirmed)
Necromancer > Greatsword (confirmed)
Engineer > Hammer (confirmed)
Ranger > Staff (confirmed)
Elementalist > Sword
Thief > Longbow
Warrior > Torch
Guardian > Warhorn
Revenant > Focus

This hypothesis is based on the thought, that ANet wants to add to each Class Specialization 1 different Weapon, so that no Weapon gets repeated.

Rifles don’t fit to the whole theme and style of sneakyThieves. Longbows are much better for Assassinations, because they are SILENT and fullfil also the role of giving Thieves back a 1200er range weapon that they absolutely need back since ANet nerfed the range of Shortbows

Pistols don’t fit to Warriors..and don’t come up now with a Rytlock Comparison..he is a special NPC, whos by design half Warrior, half Thief, his Pistol Skilsl are Thief Pistol Skills!! So thats no compelling argument for Warriors gettign pistols.
As Warriors being assigned to Balthazar, whos the God of War and Fire, seeign also that their Longbow Skills are fire based alot, giving Warriors the Torch makes alot more sense, to give the Warrior back some iconic GW1 Attacks back under a new for GW2 fittign design like:

Dragon Slash
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dragon_Slash

While fielding a Torch, the Warrior’s will could create out of the Torch’s flames a fiery blade, with that he could then create a shockwave like line of sight attack which burns foes for example and so more enemies you hit with it, so more Adrenaline you gain.

The other one could be
Sun and Moon Slash
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Sun_and_Moon_Slash
which could be more a melee ranged skill thats more powerful against single targets deliverign 2 alot strogner hits first hittign the foe with the torch, and then performing a 180° crescent swing attack to stab the foe into the sides to daze the foe.

I for myself at least would love to see these two iconic warrior skilsl from this class to return for GW2 with a warrior fitting weapon, like the Torch.
Especially because the Torch needs some good attack skills, that are more melee orientated that are good to make with them killing blows to work on Torch Mastery.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Torch
Current options more or less suck terrible for that job.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

@xXLuggXx,SnubdubLuskon, and Gulesave thank you for your comments, I have made this list to include the factor of the devs focus on gameplay mechanics while also including speculations from other player’s and myself from this forum and other forum post.

@knighthonor and Yanipheonu my humblest apologize if you or anyone else have any suggestions into making the content more readable pm me.

@A Ok thank you for your comment I didn’t ignore the engineer. Once more the engineer has the least amount of weapon sets of all eight professions with the Mesmer already being specialized to be slotted with the shield, that in mind I placed it in a location that would benefit all nine professions as a whole without breaking the chain. Once more this is based upon how I think each specialization weapon can be chosen by contrasting them from the current eight and speculative weapon set of the ninth to avoid, which is still purely speculative, choosing the weapon from a random pool of 15, or 12 weapons for the remaining five unknown specializations. SO yea all it does is limit the results.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————

xXLuggXx: Specialization Weapon Sets

  • Revenant: Focus, Scepter, Trident?
  • Mesmer: Shield
  • Engineer: Hammer
  • Thief: Rifle
  • Warrior: Pistol
  • Guardian: Longbow or Short-bow ( If the Thief swaps places with the Warrior) Due to the Spirit weapons: Bow of truth stated by Snubdubluskon, and viewing the post from other forums stating that the scepter is a tolerable weapon?*
  • Ranger: Staff
  • Necromancer: Great Sword
  • Elementalist: Sword? Axe? Warhorn?
    ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————

@Orpheal Thank you commenting I have taken your idea into account and have sorted them out based upon my theory, on how I think each specialization can , are the results.

Orpheal: Specialization Weapon Set.

  • Mesmer > Shield (confirmed)
  • Warrior > Torch
  • Engineer > Hammer (confirmed) Hard to place.
  • Guardian > Warhorn
  • Necromancer > Greatsword (confirmed)
  • Ranger > Staff (confirmed)
  • Thief > Longbow
  • Revenant > Focus
  • Elementalist > Sword

Revenant Weapon Sets:

One-Hand:
Sword

Off-Hand:
Dagger
Sword?
Shield

Two-Hand:
Staff
Longbow (Instead of a Great Sword)

Underwater:
Spear?
Trident?

Yea the theory works for both weapon sets, but I’m still having trouble placing the Engineer.

I will say right here and now that Revenant WITHOUT A DOUBT will be able to wield the Greatsword on release. Revenant is a heavy armor profession and that means melee combat will be at the forefront of its repertoire. It will be helpful to use the armor class as a hint to its weapons and/or abilities.
