Speculation & apprehension.
Anet has yet to reveal what the ‘challenging group content’ is that they announced for HoT. It might be dungeons/fractals (or something different that suits your needs).
That said, if it’s not your game then it’s not your game. Not every game can appeal to everyone.
Problem is, it appeals to me very much as a game. HoT disappointingly (I think for a lot of players) does not. You are right, I should wait to see all of the content before judging (tho I doubt raids, dungeons or fractals are a part HoT based on interviews & spoilers thus far). This isn’t my final opinion of course, just my impression at this point. Quick question, beyond traits & weapons, do YOU find it appealing so far?…. I would speculate that a lot of players are answering “no” right now.
Seems like HoT is all fat & no meat….which isn’t exactly HoT.
Between new WvWvW maps, new sPvP game mode, new PvE Zones, Elite Specializations, [insert “Challenging Group Content” here], and QoL improvements such as Conditions and Trait reworks, HoT provides enough new content for my tastes, at least.
Then again, if it doesn’t suit you, don’t buy it. You’re entitled to your opinion.

In all fairness though the WvW map, the PvP mode and the QoL updates are all not part of HoT.
To me the combination of elite specializations, the revenant, masteries, adventures, new maps and new story is more than enough to get me on board.
“You’re entitled to your opinion.” – Things people say when they HATE your opinion. LoL, just Joshin’ ya. >.O
You might change your mind when they reveal more about the “challenging group content”
and in the meantime, if you find another good mmo, lemme know, ‘cause I sure as hell couldn’t
It may not be this but with the way they are adding “choice” in the story part of the LF story and how they tend to say that some really tight success will be tied to them, we may imagine that there will be a whole mode for each chapter that will be hard to do without a group.
What i mean is that they might try to transform each chapter of the LF into some challenging dungeon path that need a party to finish it.
I don’t know where people keep getting the assertion that HoT won’t have any instanced group content – Dungeons, Fractals etc – when we know nothing about the ‘challenging group content’ that’s been mentioned and we know that the Wyvern fight isn’t what Anet considers as part of the ‘challenging group content’.
Given how there’ll be a Fractal Mastery line I’d be shocked if there weren’t additions to the Fractals.

Anet specifically said they would not be introducing “new dungeons” in HoT. I could see them having a dungeon mastery track, but whatever the “challenging content” is they are adding in HoT is, is whatever they think is a suitable replacement for dungeons. Though, Fractals are technically their own thing, and I don’t recall them saying they wouldn’t be adding new Fractals…
What I would REALLY like to see is the introduction of Living World Season 1 story parts into the Fractals. I was not playing the game at the time, and I feel like I missed a LOT. I’m not alone in this either.

You got a source for that?

There are two things.
1. In one of their posts or videos, they stated that all major content categories have already been revealed. That includes stuff like Masteries, Elite Specs, new WvW map, new PvP map/game mode, Guild Halls, Adventures, Outposts, Revenant, and “Challenging Content”. I’m trying to find the video of where I heard it, and I’ll keep looking (I’m at work so it might not be right away), but this “challenging content” was said to be in lieu of instanced dungeons because they wanted to provide open-world challenging content instead.
2. The official Wiki (above) doesn’t have a category for dungeons, per se; heck, it doesn’t list anything for fractals either outside of the mastery track. What I think might happen is that the “challenging [group] content” might be something like the guild challenges that take place in the open world but require a party or something. Hopefully this week is the reveal for this stuff, because so far we haven’t received much information about it at all.
It might not be satisfactory for what you’re looking for, but it’s all I can provide right now. If you happen to find something that says they might add it, I’d like to see it too. They indicated they already revealed everything major though, and dungeons aren’t in that list.

Why would there be information on instanced content on the Wiki if they haven’t announced it yet? The Wiki is actually run and added to by the community, if what it says on the Wiki is true.
It’s entirely possible I missed a video though. Don’t worry about it too much though. I’ve finished uni for this year so I can trawl through them at my leisure
Colin has also said while they’re looking at making the open world more challenging, it’s not the challenging group content that they announced.
He also mentioned in the interview with MattVisual that the Wyvern wasn’t an example of the ‘challenging group content’, or even a mega boss.
Personally, I feel they used the term ‘challenging group content’ as an umbrella for multiple types. I got a gut feeling, and I don’t know why, that Guild Halls is going to have something to do with group content.

Agreed, guild halls have to be a major player for this expac to stick. But any player that doesn’t delve into every aspect of this game is missing out. Our group is eager to play the new WvW maps, and PvP is always fun.
Are the current dungeons we have all that entertaining now?
