Thought they confirmed Thief was given rifle, and Guardian the longbow.
No but there is good reason to think so.
I think it’s gonna be like:
Thief – Rifle
Warrior – Pistol/Torch
Guardian – Longbow
Ele – Sword/GS

Any official source instead of video(pls!)?
The only ones an ArenaNet employee have explitly stated are the Ranger’s Staff, and the Necromancer’s GS. Otherwise, the rest are speculation and/or ones we’ve seen footage of in the trailers.
Some of the ones we’ve seen in the trailer are absolutely undeniable. (Such as Mesmer’s Shield), but there are some that are in debate, such as Thief’s Rifle, which was spotted in the trailer, but people argue it could be an Engineer with the rifle.
We know:
Engineer: hammer
Ranger: staff
Necro: GS
Mesmer: shield
We think probable:
Thief: rifle
Guardian: longbow
Ranger – Staff (confirmed)
Necro – GS (confirmed)
Mesmer – Shield (semi confirmed)
Engi – Hammer (semi confirmed)
Thief – Rifle (probably – lack of 1200 range)
Guard – Longbow (probably – lack of 1200 range)
Warrior – Pistoly (looks at you, Rythlock)
Ele – Sword (lack of cleave, other weapons already taken)
“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
I am hoping the Mesmer Sheild thing was a troll and it will be given something useful like a MH pistol.

Meh I really hope ele’s don’t get GS (honestly I can’t see them getting any of their summoned weapons), and really don’t want them getting sword. My friend and I want them to get pistols, he really wants to be a “Spellslinger” with potentially dual pistols.
I don’t think that was a thief in that video wielding the rifle. maybe im wrong. guardian longbow pretty much confirmed by a clip from the same vid.
the profs we have no idea about: ele, warrior, thief. I wanna see the warrior get a pistol, ele a sword. rifle would make the most sense for thief.
but it’s ANet and they like doing unexpected things like throwing a freaking hammer at 1200. I also wasn’t expecting shield on Mesmer.

Ranger is getting Staff. Officially Confirmed.
Necromancer is getting Greatsword. Officially Confirmed. We know Marjory picked up Belinda’s Katana.
Engineer is getting Hammer. Seen in video(not officially confirmed).
Mesmer is getting at least Shield. A skill with purple butterflies animation from a character with a Shield in video.
Guardian is getting either Longbow or Shortbow as seen in video. We do not know whether that will be a Longbow or Shortbow. Spirit Bow is the only Spirit Weapon that Guardians have and cannot wield. The thing is, Spirit Bow can be a Longbow or Shortbow. (If) Eir dies and Braham picks up her Bow, but there is also Eir’s Longbow and Eir’s Short Bow as well.
My guess:
Elementalist is not getting Longbow, Shortbow, Shield, Hammer or Greatsword. Because Eles are not supposed to have a weapon that is the same as a Conjured Weapon. Arenanet will advertise Hamstorm all over again and give Elementalist a Sword.
Warrior is likely getting Dagger. Dagger is the only weapon in Weaponsmith that Warriors cannot wield. Dagger Warriors existed in GW1, as did Staff Ranger and Hammer Ranger, and we are getting Staff Ranger.
Thief could be getting Rifle. There is a Medium class with a Rifle in the video but that could have been an Engineer.
Revenant – We dont even know the current weapons.

You people honestly think some professions will get 5 new skills through a two-handed weapon and others will get only 2 new skills, through an off-hand?
Wouldn’t it make more sense to believe that everyone will have at least 5 new skills, either through a new two-handed weapon or a new main-hand and a new off-hand weapon?

Specializations only get ONE NEW WEAPON, that doesn’t mean that they won’t get unique weapon skills for existing weapons. Don’t get the wording confused..

It wouldn’t surprise me a lot.
The professions already have vastly different numbers of weapon skills.
Necro has around 30, Warrior around 40 (More if you count Bursts) and Ele around 80.
On the other hand Necro has a ton of Utility skills if you count every minion as 2 skills and all the transformations as 6 skills.
Bit weird if Mesmer gets only a shield, though, given they already have a pretty low number of skills.
Still, that’s what’s shown on the video.
Of course it’s also possible that the specializations add new Profession skills.

Ele Rifle. Not so much speculation as much as I want it. Magic rifle with the Fire/Water/Air/Earth attunement sounds fun. Enjoy this buckshot of magical rocks!

One thing to note here is that Specializations lose things as well. There is nothing stopping Anet from taking away Conjures from the new Specialization (or a future specialization), and, in, fact, I would argue that Conjures are one of the most likely candidates for cutting, which would free up the use of GS, Axe, Hammer, Shield, and (Long?)bow on some future Specs.

For the longest time I’ve hoped for Warrior to get Pistol (either MH or OH), but I have a feeling that it might be dagger.
I welcome staff it they could make it a melee weapon (although many of the existing sins will look odd)
I’m kind of excited about the possibility of a Guardian Bow choice.
I’m looking forward to Necro with GS, and the Engi with the hammer.
More so, as to their specializations themes that explain or justify these weapon additions
The rest … well, I guess we’ll see.

Yes I believe Anet will kitten over the Mesmer like that.
You people honestly think some professions will get 5 new skills through a two-handed weapon and others will get only 2 new skills, through an off-hand?
I ABSOLUTELY expect that to happen, because despite people’s obsession with one tiny facet of the Specialization package, trying to produce perfect symmetry for the sake of perfect symmetry would lock them into too rigid of a model.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I don’t think there will be 5 new skills for everyone and I have no idea why. The same way I have no idea why a offhand torch takes a vision crystal the same as a great sword but only has half the stats.
I like the idea of 5 skills for everyone which could still be a possibility (maybe you specialize and you can use a sheildd and sword and get new skills for your sword)
I get that it’s lots of work but it just doest feel like your toon specialized in anything because now he welds a torch in his off hand. If your that special with a torch let’s see you weild That beauty with your main hand.
Also on topic I think the revenant specialization will be a greatsword. I just feel it.

I don’t know what else it could be? rifles and pistols seem like a strange weapon for a reverent. Maybe it’s just me. Who knows they have a ranged hammer, Maybe you dual weild melee pistols? Just pistol whipping people.

No but there is good reason to think so.
Any official source instead of video(pls!)?
No and thats why I say good reason but no confirmation. These suggestions for one make sense, they fit with the class design and they alleviate certain issues the class experiences (both being long range) Like I said there is reasonable evidence and simply considering the options you can negate certain options most likely. However Anet did say they wanted to think outside the box for some classes so who knows in the end beyond the things that are absolute, like Engi Hammer.

In the developpers’ point of view, a 1 handed weapon means more skills to create than a 2 handed one, since you also have to think about the number 3 skill (which depends on both main-hand and off-hand weapons).
Then again, I wish all the weapon skills will be tweaked with specializations so we don’t really feel let down if we don’t like the new weapons (even if it’s just new visual effects)

read and repeat: “something usefull like a mainhand pistol.”
hahahahahaha yeah good one mate. pistol is ranged, range in guild wars 2 sucks hard.
- elementalist: sword mainhand
- warrior: offhand torch (hope it’s torch with high burst potential)
- guardian: longbow
- mesmer: offhand shield
- ranger: staff
- thief: rifle
- engineer: hammer
- necromancer: greatsword

well to me the mesmer’s shield in the trailer seemed more to be like an burstweapon.
he casted an damaging aoe with it.
they made a ranged hammer so i think they might be able to design a damage shield.

Maybe have a charge/shield bash type move with evasion frames as the other shield ability. Maybe give it a 1 second stun/interrupt.
The only thing i’d like to say is that I’d be very sad if they came up with rifle thief… Thieve would gain like absolutely nothing from a rifle. So I’d say :
Thief : Torch (welcome aoe and fire fields we love you!!! Fire themed dual weapons skills, I’m already drooling!)
Guardian : Bow (another mean of range option is really needed)
Elementalist : Sword (probably the most logical choice even if mace would suit better the new engine techs)
Warrior : I’ll root for scepter (It’s a magic weapon but a magic weapon can open up some idea for upkeep skills that would use adrenaline and i really dislike the possibility of a warrior with 2 burst skills, it’s just a bit to much)
Others are already known.

Known: necro, engi, ranger, mesmer.
As a speculation thread:
Guardian – Longbow, used for condi ranged spec
Elementalist – Torch off or mainhand, used for melee builds in condi spec
Thief – Staff, used for melee bo staff, cleave, blocking or reflecting, power spec
Warrior – Pistol main or offhand, used for evasive maneuvers and/or support, like stacking vulnerability, cripple, and immobilize while leaving room for warhorn
I’m attempting to make best guesses on where the classes need to fill in the most gaps, or seems most interesting and counter to their current playstyle.

Think along the lines of what each profession currently lacks the most of…. Ranger lacked support (in the metagame) so they got staff. Engi lacked melee so they got hammer. Necro lacked a 2nd 2-handed weapon so they got, you guessed it, a 2nd 2-handed weapon that isn’t a duplicate staff. I am willing to bet the necro’s GS will have more Marks, finally. That’s just one example.
Not a lot of things are set in stone right now. They have said profession mechanics that fundamentally change the way your profession plays is one of the cornerstones of specializations, so we can only surmise they’ve been thinking about existing weapon skills, traits, utilities, all of it. Think most about what your profession is really bad at so far, and that’s probably one of the areas they’ll develop with specializations.
A new weapon, whether two handed or even just an offhand, is sort of minor in comparison to the other changes. So when you speculate about what new weapon you’ll get, try and think about what aspect of play you think it should expand on.

Mesmer, needs more main hand weapons, has too many off hand weapons so it gets off hand shield.

“Ranger lack support” Sorry I lol’ed and stop reading here.
The ranger it’s :
-2 fire fields on short cool down
-1 blast and 2 blast in combat from pets
-fury and might from WH + boons from pets granting you chose the right pet
-a water field that clean condition and grant regeneration
-trait on shout that grant regeneration
-trait “spotter”
-spirits
… etc.
Yeah yeah… ranger lack support, sure!

I’ve never felt a lack of range ability with the thieve. A lack of aoe maybe but no lack of range. But I’m not a counterstrike fan so…

They might have support in the form of traits and utilities (mainly just from spirits really), but they lack a supportive weapon. Not that I consider a few supportive traits or fields/finishers to be anything significant in terms of support potential.

Aw, dash my dreams why don’t you? Guardians having any sort of a good ranged weapon (scepter with the orbs of slowness does not qualify) is my only want out of professions. Adding a weapon to the other professions is just icing. It would be great if 1-weapon professions were given the weapon swap ability though. My elementalist has use of different attunements but my engineer hardly ever has need of her toolbelt.
