Maybe no one has this problem anymore… but I just spent 2 hours completing the Auric Basin meta. Achieved victory. Went below to claim my chests… and boom. Crashed. Of course as soon as I logged back in, I was in a worthless, half completed map. Why is this still happening?? I have a hard time with the fact I got no reward from two hours worth of play time.

Could’ve prevented it by inviting yourself to a squad assuming the map is still not full. Best insurance you can ask for until Anet does something about it.

Same thing happened to me with VB meta, I was on a good map and boom crashed and got put onto a fail one. And you will find you may not be abe to get back onto it because someone else took your spot.

Happened to me as well. Since then I always make sure to be in party with someone from the octovine fight until the end of the rewards phase.

It’s still happening because (a) it’s difficult to troubleshot and (b) difficult to fix.

Some of the crashes can be attributed to circumstances unique to the individual experiencing them. And for those, Customer Service is your best bet — create a support ticket and see if they can help (costs only a little bit of time and has a decent chance of making things better, if not good).

Some of the crashes are probably due to the game and, alas, for those, there’s nothing to be done except wait for ANet to figure it out. Which, of course, they want to do, if for no other reason, than to reduce the number of complaint threads, which ultimately affect sales.

Set your texture detail/quality level down a notch. I found that one setting prevents me from crashing in DS for certain, but it could probably happen on other maps.

Good advice. My old rig used to crash only in certain events (in original tyria). Tuning the graphics down prevented it. (Turned out: the cable to the hard drive was overheating and coming loose, nothing to do with the game; your mileage will vary.)

I know it sounds like a broken record now, but have you tried the 64 bit client?

when you accidentally disconnect or you are forced to teleport to another map because for no reason waypoint in your map won’t work when you are dead you can’t go back in a map with a completed meta. or at least this is what happened to me in dragon stand and i’m still kittened about. i spent hours there than i died during mouth of mordremoth fight and couldn’t waypoint

onevstheworld is correct.

If you havn’t swapped to the 64 bit client I would heavily recommend doing so. It has solved ALL out of memory crashes for not only myself but every person I have recommended it to after they report troubles like this. It sounds like this would help fix your issue. You can find the link for it in your account settings in the client download list.

PLEASE try it. And if it works spread the word to anyone else you see encountering the same issue.

The 64 bit beta client was pretty much released in response to this issue as far as I can tell. Atleast the timing seems to lead to that conclusion. If it doesn’t help its likely a hardware issue on your part. So I feel like trying the 64 bit client would be of use to you one way or another. Atleast so far as diagnosing the problem goes.

I switched over to the 64bit client shortly after it was released. Thank goodness too because I no longer have the crashing “every few events” issues I used to have with the 32bit one.

But on the other hand, if Comcrash would not use 3rd party hops, my connection issues not related to the game would all be solved. So solving the game issues was a big plus. Now if only I can get Comcrash to fix their idiotic internet setup I would be happy.

Well, this works until you disconnect and the kitten you joined kicks you while you’re dced. Honestly, I wonder why people bother tagging up.

Why can’t the mega servers hold a 5min queue of players that left the map (due to disconnect) that allows them to return back in the same exact map? I’m sure a DC can be distinguished from a jump to another map.

If it were as easy as “just this” or “just that,” wouldn’t you think they would have implemented it, if for no other reason than to reduce the huge number of complaints about this issue.

Besides, if you’re trying to get to the same map as your friends, do you really want 5 minutes worth of players slowing the queue with reserved spots?

ANet’s never gone into the specifics, so I don’t think any of us can usefully speculate as to why this is taking them so long. Could be they don’t have enough megaserver experts, could be a problem with the initial design, how they used the system to spawn instances, how they queue people, or all sorts of other things.

The game’s architecture probably doesn’t allow it, even before the megaserver you’d end up in an overflow if you left a full map for any reason.

BUMP. this happened to me and my [AB] guild who worked our kitten off to get all the pylons done. With a tier 4 map and 10 mins to go until meta, BOOM we were kicked. All progress lost and sent to a kittenty kittening HP train noob fest. The map was populated and lively. Definitely over 70 people in it. WHY kick us into a less populated map. I speak for all of the 70 ppl who worked on this.

Instead of having a trash system that wastes all our progress for no kittening reason to send us to a worse even less populated map, how about cancel the map close mechanic when the populated reaches 50 ppl????

Are you using the 64-bit client? If not try it, it fixed problems for many people. Or as others have said, try turning things down.on your setting to avoid crashes. Or get a new system if yours is getting on a bit, PC’s are not meant to last forever.

Think this dude doesn’t have that problem, what he/she is talking about empty maps trigging the change map pop-up even if map fills up. But that is another problem and not the same.
