Yes i know ive already made posts about this, but ive been thinking maybe staff would fit thief, but i dont think its the right time to do staff, were about to be heading into the magumma in the exspansion, i think what would be better, would be to release staff in another exspansion, mabye i dont know one that involves us going to Cantha, it fits way better there, the specs we know so far have a sort of story behind them that fits what we will be doing. So i think Staff doesnt fit Heart of thorns for thief, and i dont even think its gonna happen anyways. I hope it would be rifle or Axe, people will probably say, oh your just another rifle fanboy, but i really do think it would be easier to make rifle or axe, or even torch fit this exspansion.

Wait hold on you think staff would fit thief, but you don’t want staff to fit thief because of Heart of Thorns exclusively….and you don’t think it’ll happen anyway. Besides that you’ve admitted to making posts about this beforehand so why are you making this post at all?

I wish ArenaNet would just put us out of our misery already, just so we don’t get as many posts about the same conversation!

If they can’t confirm if Thief is getting Rifle or Staff, can they at least confirm whether or not any single weapon will be tied to more than one specialisation?

I’m Pro-Staff for the record.

I’m absoutely Pro Staff too …

This self made upo “rule” of every class may get only a different weapon was childishly stupid to begin with already, so I hope with every E Spec reveal, that Naet does something to break this nonsense up and show the people, that not everything is so easily foreseeable, as some people might think that they know what will happen and what Anets plans are as if they would be all knowing prophets.

I want to see Thieves getting the Ascetic E-Spec, as a kind of martial artistical synonymed form of a Monk, which are no Monks per see, but just share the background of praying for their sins to be forgiven and finding to their inner self through absolute self control and the help of martial arts, making the Ascetic the Elite Specization, which focuses on Acrobatics from the Thieves – so Dodging, Quick Movement, Counter Attacking through Blocks and Parades with the Weapons, thus giving the thief a more tanky weapon build thats dealing DPPs through defense by using the force of the enemy against themselves what would lead to a complete new and unique gameplay for thieves, that of punish their enemy hard for trying to burst down a thief at melee range, if they can successfully counterattack with their staves the attacks form the enemy.
Staff should be a weapon for thieves, that strongly rewards the player for very good positioning and knowing your enemies and their potential attack methods to counter them at the right time while parading or dodging at the same time the attack to give the thief a very strong and reliable alternative build to the ones, which rely on tons of stealth, as the Ascetic would be basically a nearly stealthless E Specc except for when you would use Utility Skills that stealth you.

I think the Ascetic would receive then MANTRAS as Utilty Skills to be able to perform his quick Counterattacks, which would automaticalyl fire off at the right situations, when you have prepared a Mantra, so that an Ascetic Player could decide to use the Mantra charges either for passive automatic Counter Attacks or for active combat effects. Mantras do also fit to the theme of “Self Control, Concentration and Meditation”
So if its not Mantras, Meditations owudl be a good alternative, but Mantras I think offer the better more versatile gameplay mechanic for the combat system for usign them either as automatic passive effects or active effetcs if you use up the charges in a moment, where you don’t get attacked and beign in a situation of defending yourself to wait on the perfect moment for a counter attack.
When using Mantras as initiant move, they could return Initiative for the Ascetic, based on the concept, that the Staf Weapon Skill will all use also Initiative.

Steal gets changed for the Ascetic to “Chakra Flow”, a mechanic, that lets the Ascetic charge up his Chakra Flow to temporarely empower the Regeneration Speed of Initiative, receive a little Stat Boost while charging up chakra to certain levels (similarly clustered like Adrenaline, so Stat Boosts in 4 steps) allowing the Ascetic to change with F2 at full Chakra to change into “Ascension Mode”, where Soul and Body of your Character become one perfectly within yourself where the Ascetic receives in this state as long the Chakra Flow hasn’t reached 0 (slowly sinks) some non removeable Boon Effects similar to the Guardian Virtues, that also effect allies while being in the near of the Ascetic, Boons that are called “Morale Effects”, thats why have also positive influence on your nearby allies, as the shear presence of you increaes then in this mode the morale of your nearby allies to new heights, what would give this E-Spec then also some nice situational support options.
While being in Ascesion Mode, the Weapon Skills of the Charactre would changed then also to Ascension Skills that the Ascetic can use only as long the Chakra Flow hasn’t reached 0.
The difference between this mechanic and the Necromancers Death Shroud which is similar is, Chakra Flow doesn’t get reduced if you receive damage, because unlike Death Shroud doesn’t protect Ascension Mode your real health behind a practical second health bar
Ascension Skills give the Ascetic quite some nice extra mobility and control while being in that Mode, making his counter attacks more dangerous, while improving the players options for better positioning and overall tanky controling counterplay (when using especially the Staff)

I’d so love the E-Spec, if Thief would receive something like this with HoT.

That’s completely out of the teef concept, teefs are supposed to be stealthy, spies, neutralize their target and leave unoticed not some kind of budhha shaolin monk.

I think you have still not realized that Elite Specializations aren’t just plain copies of their Main Classes with expanded skill options and a new weapon, but in fact completely different gameplay concepts with changed gameplay mechanics to give the E-Spec a completely different gameplay feeling from what you received with the original Main Professions.

Plus, its THIEF, not teef , learn2spell :P

I think you haven’t realized that Elite Specialization are nothing but extensions to existing classes, and provide only unique game play through the new weapon – which is by the game’s base design (a P/D will forever play like a P/D, a D/P will forever play like a D/P, and so forth). We do get a handful of utility skills (and one heal) besides the weapon’s skill.

Plus, pretty sure it’s TEEF, not thief, learn2lingo. :P

Explain to me how dragonhunter is a simple extension of guardian plox?

New weapon. Great. Did we really need to over exaggerated it? (Well I guess yeah, you do need to sell the thing.)

Trait line that supports the weapon/skills. Cool. O well, doesn’t really effect old weapons.

New Utility/heal/elite skills. Cool. Nothing special, plus no one knows if they will be viable/meta or not, so they might be left to sit in the dust.

Virtues swapped to another-kind-of virtues… As opposed to using old ones. Might be the next biggest thing next to the new weapon.

At the end of the day, a guardian’s long bow will play like a guardian’s long bow, it won’t change… Just like the guardian’s greatsword will remain the same… now, maybe you will have a bit more options due to the handful utilties/elite/heal skills your getting, along with the option of using old or new virtues.

Now… The elite spec could have been something entirely different, where each old weapon would have had their skills changed as well – to the point of say, having a staff become a melee weapon, a greatsword becoming a casting/spell weapon – while theming it to the name “dragon hunter” or whatever else they might have chosen (in this parallel universe). Adding in 2-3 more trait lines that are optional and only spec-able when you have your elite spec on. Switch the virtues to be something completely else – like I don’t know, stealth, clones, tool belt, ANYTHING but virtues… literally turning the WHOLE kittening class upside down. Maybe add in the option of swapping weapon skills…(probably their biggest flaw in design, imho) Did they do something as grand as that?

“But ZeroDay, I think you set the expectation up too high!” – Not really. Honestly, I did think it would be something like this (just extension), or worse. They did hype it up though (gotta sell!), as if it will drastically change the class to the point of you not knowing it anymore. Just like when they used the word “MAAAASSSIVE”, it came out tiny, (don’t even remember what context they used that in) and how things are going to be moving fast with the expansion (hell I no longer believe that they will release by the end of August – yeah I know, no official release date.) – I guess it’s their perspective of things.
