Guild Wars 2

So with all the hype that built up between the end of LWS2, and the announcement at PAX east, how many of you are still on the Hype Train? With the second beta test coming soon, and no sign of a date, have what they’ve shown so far kept you chooing along? Or like my have you been, “that looks cool, but if I can’t. Play it, I can’t get excited about it.”?

Having ANet show things off, then say this is not final just makes me think, “it looks cool now, but it probably wont be like that at all come launch.” Am I alone in this? Would you have proffered ANet to show us things when they “where ready”? Instead of half done traits and skills that will.probably.not be as good as they look?

I’m interested to see what’s coming, but untill there is an open Beta, or a preorder/beta access thing like with GW2 pre launch. I just can’t get excited about HoT. Can you?

I never feel any hype for this sort of stuff so I could have just gone with getting the expansion and seeing it all for myself. Beta will be interesting (if I remember to wake up).

The thing is, I am now even more hyped for what is coming before, namely the traits revamp and the new Lion’s Arch.

I was hyped at the beginning. Not so much anymore. It’s been months and we haven’t had any real updates, we’ve only had gemstore additions and drip fed information on a few professions and their specialisations – if you can even call those ‘updates’.

We haven’t even had a WvW Tournament for us to get our Mist Weapons (sure it seems to happen every year or so >_< but that’s hardly ‘permanent content’, what do YOU think?), let alone any new additions to WvW Rewards, what we can buy with our badges of honor, or some reward track like PvP has.

All I’m doing now is my dailies and playing EOTM. It’s getting boring though. I want to play revenant already and set up a build for it, and play the new WvW borderlands, but at this rate I feel like I’m going to have to wait another half a year :-/ Not really hyped anymore to say the least.

I’m really excited for the Dragon Hunter. I’m not really looking forward to the masteries or anything, as I will feel the need to grind them out, but I think I can get over that.

Meh, I was excited back when they were showing it off at Pax, then when they didn’t give us a release date, I lost some interest, since then my excitement has been steadily eroded away by silence regarding any type of major announcement, such as a release date or the size of the expansion

I’m excited for the chronomancer, rebalancing of conditions, and the promised challenging PvE content.

I’m dreading having every one of my characters but my mesmer crippled.

I have stopped playing GW2 around a year ago, mainly because of lack of time and also interest. But HoT might manage to get me playing again. I really like the changes. IMO, they fix a lot of issues with the game and with WvWvW

my hype on the expansion reveal was very high

then it kind of went down a little

then the revenant was revealed and i went freaking crazy for like 2 months

then my hype died

then chronomancer was revealed my hype was revived
then dragon hunter made me sigh.....
then reaper made me hyped a little again
then last night... it just died & i guess the last hype i will probably get is when a release date and pre-pay thing comes out

but for now im just like ... meh my hypes kind of slipped away

FTFY…. Well, not so much fixed but made it fit how I’m feeling about it. I pretty much got off the hype train when I realized there would be no new content until HoT was released and since there’s no date for that… It’s just same ol same ol and that gets old.

Been with MMORPGs for too long to feel hype anymore. I’m looking forward to the expansion, but I don’t get on hype trains.

Honestly, it has taken so long for the little info we’ve been given that, for me, the hype really isn’t there.

I’m still (pre-)ordering asap. Very hyped. ^^

This. Everyone I speak to is bored. PVP flopped big time (even with mega handouts, it’s struggling) and now we’re essentially down to being forced to pay $50 for content we used to get for free.

The one big success of this game (IMHO) was WVW (which they thoroughly mis-managed with highly questionable (read: terrible) updates), and the GVG that evolved organically (which they failed/refused to nurture).

I don’t really begrudge them needing to make money to keep the game alive, it’s just frustrating to see the game flounder due to neglect and design decisions that at times are 100% contrary to community consensus positions.

I am still excited for the expansion; they have announced a good amount of features thus far and am expecting that there is plenty more to come.

Second, the WvW changes have already got player complaining. If anet still refuse to listen then all is lost.

That’s a matter of perspective.

Personally, as specializations come out. I’ve gotten MORE excited because before everything was too vague to care. We have as close to a release date that we need based on NC’s financial projections. They might just be playing it safe, no problem with that, especially with how touchy people are with “False” information.

As for WvW changes; WvW and sPVP both are more complex than many veteran players realize. Down the road, no one is going to miss having to click to add their points. Simplification is often good because it is less confusing to new players, and just less burdening for others who don’t want to juggle points, and really only affects a few hardcore WvWers who like that interaction, and most will come to accept it anyways.

It seems they’re taking this opportunity to streamline systems (wvw, traits, etc) to make them more intuitive which will help retain some of the player surge. And in case of the trait change, it was a good opportunity to do a polish pass on the old parts of the game. Same with the skill unlock system.

They’re doing good, its all a matter of perspective.

I was hyped when I was dropped a portal.

I stopped being hyped when I learned that a convention demo stress test can now constitute as a “Closed Beta.”

It’s probably my fault they did that too. Sorry everyone, they really don’t want me in their betas so they scrapped the portal idea as soon as I got one. :P

I was super hyped before and at launch and I thought it would become the next “big thing” in MMOs, but after I dinged level 80 and saw that the PvE endgame looked like I lost interest and 1 month after launch I purchased Mists of Pandaria and I really only came back to GW2 for the Living Story updates.

I think Heart of Thorns is going to be a good addition to the game, but I don’t think it’s going to be a game changer or make Guild Wars 2 super popular and triple the playerbase and whatnot.

Me? I’ll probably get the expansion, the real question whether I want to get it at launch or later at a discount.

What would hype me a little bit would be some info on how they’re going to make PvE more relevant. In the Angry Joe interview, Colin said that group PvE would be a big focus, that they were aware of the problems and all that, but so far we haven’t heard much about how they intend to make PvE better. But I suppose a really cool warrior elite specialization reveal could hype me as well since I main that class.

This. I sort of came back to the game on a whim and was like, “Oh, an expansion got announced? That’s neat. I’ll stick around for a while and might check it out.”
But LS S2 didn’t really catch me (amassed all of the episodes, but didn’t play them until about a month or so ago), and I’m not really a fan of what they did with Dry Top and Silverwastes.

And honestly, I sort of lost interest in the whole dragon storyline partway through the personal story, so there’s not a lot lore-wise for me to get excited for.

Really, most of what the expansion would be riding on is nostalgia and aesthetics, and considering the parts of Maguuma we’ve already seen and the lack of nostalgia the game has elicited thusfar, I don’t have much hope on the nostalgia front. Aesthetic-wise, it does admittedly look pretty good (I’m a sucker for forests and jungles).

I’ve been quickly finding myself put off by the same things I originally was with the game though, so unless the expansion really shows me something to really get excited over, it’s something I might buy simply due to it being financially trivial (which is the same position Heavensward is in), or something I’ll pass on if I see reason to not support it.

nope not anymore. loved the changes to some classes…now checking out wvw …sorry anet is destroying the core of wvw and turns wvw maps into a giant circus for pve karma trains with its stupid pve events they are going to add.

wvw was a special game mode for people that liked battles and siege. and yes zergs or roaming. looking at the new map and the terrible terrible horrible pve stuff they put in it. this map is even worse than the biggest wvw fail map eotm that is a map for pver karma trains.

i dont want wvw map that are so complicated like eotm
i hate jumping puzzle styles in wvw
i hate pve mobs in wvw
i hate stupid npc pve mob shrines that do pve stuff
im certainly not collecting random stuff like ice shards and stupid oil and all that random pve element they put into eotm.

gg anet u will lose the entire wvw community with this pve stuff u put in. pve players have a ton of maps and eotm. keep wvw borderland maps

karma train free
pve mobs free (camps are ok)
shrine free
pve traps free
jumping puzzle free

and keep the map simple! we dont need it as complicated as eotm.

we told anet for years that we hate pve in wvw. we told anet eotm was not a good map for wvw players and now u make borderland maps with mainly pve events that drop chests? this screams karma train pve karmatrain and its absolutely terrible.

i was soo excited fot hot. so excited to finally play my mes in wvw again as a chronomancer and now i see what u are doing to wvw…nevermind then aint gonna buy this now. my game mode has been destroyed .

I try not to get hyped for things before they release because I’ve been burned too often in the past and would rather be pleasantly surprised than let down. ArenaNet has kept a steady hold of my interest, however, and I get a nice little wave of excitement whenever they reveal an elite spec. That’s about as close to hyped as I get.

I’m not hyped but is really waiting for the adventure to continue.The reveal of the Reaper got me interested in Necromancer a class I tried only twice,one during Beta and the other time after the game went live and it was done for me.Now I have a level 33 Necro which I’m leveling.

I was not hyped but excited when they made the annoucement at PAX east.

What they have shown so far looks interesting but I still am not sure if this would be fun to play. I am more interested in new PvE-maps/content, guild content and good storytelling but not so much interested in PvP, WvW or changes in trait lines etc…

It is good that they show this to us as early as possible. Thats what a lot of players have asked for.

We need something wile we wait, they went from events and living story stuff like every other week to 100 days nothing but gem store items…

I’m really excited about having my progress reset on all my toons so I can relive the glory of my old hero challenge days. Maybe there will be even more places of power to commune with, and random foods and drinks to consume to prove that my character has the skill to become even more powerful! And, as a special bonus they are even turning WvW into another PvE experience. It’s like kindergarten all over again!(Remember kindergarten, when everything was fresh and exciting!) I hope they charge a lot for this, to keep the people who don’t truly appreciate a good hero challenge from spoiling my experience with their negativity!

Yes. I’m super excited. Although, I’m playing the actual live game rather casually atm.

I am still pretty hyped about HoT, if ever I start to get bored in game I just go to silverwastes and view the heart of thorns trailer that you can watch if you talk to that npc. That instantly makes me enjoy the game again whatever it is I am going to be doing, it just makes me think that this massive content drought will be more than worth it, which I believe it will be

It’s very hard to feel hype for HoT. Look at what ArenaNet says:

“Hey guys, we will revamp how traits work so we clean up the mess we made in our previous revamp! Now you won’t have to grind (as much) to unlock traits, but we will reduce how many traits we have and decimate build variety! Aren’t you happy?”

“Hey guys! Since you all like Silverwastes (and of course that’s because you love playing the same event over and over, not because it’s one of the most profitable things in the game), we will make the entire expansion like it! Be ready to grind the same thing over and over while fighting the same three of four enemy models!”

“Hey guys! We will make great additions to the professions through specializations! Here, the Chronomancer is great, isn’kitten It’s so great, in fact, that we will take a break in our next specialization and just allow the guardian to be a second-rate ranger! But look, it has no pet so it’s already on top of rangers, right? LOOOOL!”

Not to mention the whole beta access thing. They offer a reward for grinding the Silverwastes (and I’m sure they will use the number of people playing there as a sign of how successful the Silverwastes “design” has been), making it clear that they want grinders to test HoT; and they do that without even telling people when the beta would be or how long it would last.

With that kind of attitude to their customers, who can really feel hyped about anything made by ArenaNet?

Finding an awesome RP/Caslual guild is still my top priority. Then it will be to be ready for making the best Guild Hall possible once that gets out and maybe getting better at PvP and WvW. For now I’m mostly PvE and wandering about. Specialisations will be quite interesting. Exploration of new land will be awesome and I hope to have a lovely story that I hope will run differently according to race. I’m building up a sylvari specifically for this and will also play it with my main, which is a human guardian. I also have a human thief that’s in the oldest of organisations to see what they will think about this new development

I can’t wait to have more places to stand around and show off the latest armor I purchased with real money from the gem store. Cuz that makes me more speshul.

Right now I am actually more hyped for the trait/skill system changes that are coming out BEFORE HoT. I hope they come out this summer.
