“Not only will you be able to take your characters to the jungle, you can take them into the existing game world as well! PvE, PvP, or WvW—feel free to try out the new profession or elite specializations on the live game with all your friends and guildies.”

So yes, I can’t try out kitten with my guildies because I can’t rep my guild.

I can see how that statement was a bit ambiguous. I don’t think they intended repping to be active during a beta, but I can understand how that post would have sent a confusing message.

Can friends still pm you via the friends list?

Teamspeak/Vent still works. Still get to fully play with my guild.

I remember them saying that guild rep would not be in place. I speculate that this is because guild representation can’t be cloned, the same way they can clone your bank/etc. (It runs off a shared database across EU/NA regions, which is why sometimes the game runs fine, while chat or friends lists are lagging.) Thus, there’s no way to reset any changes to the guild (influence, consumables, build queue) that take place during BETA.

I suspect what they meant by “play with your guildies” was that you could party up with them. It’s a typical ANet hype-team mistake: slightly overstating a minor technical point, in a way that leaves a core subset of the community really annoyed by unmet expectations. (When they could have just understated and set expectations properly in the first place.)

The reason it is not available is because people would then be able to deposit their rewards into the guild bank. As this is new content there could be potential exploits and to make sure it won’t harm the non-beta economy etc this is the safest solution.

Why would you think we could rep? In the last beta we were not able to do anything with guilds either.

You do not even need to do that. Roll a character, rep, dump inventory (boxes of exotics, etc) to guild bank, repeat.

If they’re going to keep people from being social in a social game then they might as well have a separate server for the beta. Can’t even rep your guild in GUILD WARS 2.

They could have just disabled all guild functions besides guild chat for beta players. Not having access to that chat cuts me off from my guild – and that makes me less inclined to jump into beta to test anything.
