After doing some experimenting on a Revenant during the last beta weekend, I’ve bought all of my exotic equipment, picked out my stances, and my specializations.

I know there’s no such thing as tanks, healers, or anything like that in Guild Wars, but with a Revenant, I found a way to make a viable, strong, and self-recovering tank that just doesn’t die – and can keep enemy attention – all the enemies.

Have you guys discovered any specific builds or what you’re going to be doing with the new specializations?

Are you going to be raiding?

No I’m not going to be raiding. Whilst I’m happy for those that are, one of the reasons I was originally looking forward to this game was that it was one of the very few MMORPGs that didn’t have raiding at all. I’ve tried it in various others and I’ve never enjoyed the playstyle or idea of it. I tend to enjoy solo or small group content the most.

Eh, I think it’s just adding to the choice of things to do, really. In the beta, there was still a ton to explore, PVP’s still, well, as awesome as ever, and now it’s just adding some raids here and there. Far as I’m concerned, it’s just a bit of reason to stick around – unless raiding is mandatory, I can’t see how it’ll hurt.

I mean, for instance, World of Warcraft dropped its ball BECAUSE of the lack of stuff to do once max-level. Raiding was the only thing. I think that’s what Guild Wars does best – you play how you want. And if raiding is completely optional? All the more power to it.

Also not stoked for raids like Kazimeras, not in the slightest to be honest. But Anet pulled a clever fast one on me and put equipment I really want behind the raids, so I will grudgingly do them until I have the equipment and I can ride in the sunset, but not without b.tching, crying, foot stomping, moaning and complaining.^^

Wow gave players lots of 5-man dungeons with content patches, while HOT will just give raids without new 5-man instance. Yet some people are still thinking that there is more to do in GW2 without raids.

I suppose so, but where has it said no new 5-mans?

If there were coming new fractals ( anets 5 man content going forward)
It would have been spoken about as one of the major features, instead we got increase cap from 50-100 and each level is 1 of the before 3 fractals + boss fractal.

So no new fractals, just the same split up 1 each in 1-100 instead of random of 4 each 1-50

I’m not particularly stoked about the raiding, but I’m sure I’ll end up doing it for the rewards. But over all, it lowers my opinion of the game a bit.

I wont be raiding at least not early on. Im not really a good enough player for them. If I commit to improving my playstyle, Ill jump in as long as the traditional raid toxicity ive found in other mmos isnt prevalent.

I dont have any issue with raids as a feature being in game though. I hope they live up to the expectations of those desiring the challenging content.

Of course I will be raiding, it’s one thing I always wanted and I always missed in GW2. Great addition! I am shocked how casual the community is here. The comments are really surprising here…

‘would of been’ —> wrong

I’m glad they added raids without also adding a gear treadmill.

The transmutation system and optional legendaries make me want to raid in a way I haven’t really wanted to in other games. In most games we’ve raided in, we did it because we had to, you know, for the stats. Knowing that, as a guild leader, I can say “you’re all already ready for the next raid, and the one after that” is a lot of freedom.

Doing content because I want a thing, like boss skins or legendary precursors is much better than doing repetitive raid progression because I need gear from raid 1 to do raid 2 and so on. Being able to tell a lapsed player, or a member with a more casual schedule “yes, you too can raid, right now, in the same raid we’re all doing” is fantastic.

Totally stoked for raiding as well! I’m excited to have small group content that will be about working together to defeat very difficult encounters. I love raiding in other games and I hope that it lives up to the hype here.

That’s exactly what I was thinking, Pope.

I’ve literally just been spending most of my time thinking of different builds to make raiding easier. My Revenant concept may only have exotic armor, but I was able to tank five players in PVP for almost two or three minutes.

“Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day, while the first three new legendaries will become available shortly after launch, alongside raids.”

So looks like there won’t be any raids or new legendaries at launch… What did I pay for in the end.
