Not being able to do story line is silly. If you finish a story line part, it should allow you to unlock what you need to continue. The reward system is unrealistic. I’m so far ahead in exploring , doing events that I shouldn’t be , cause the story line doesn’t give you enough masteries to continue. I’d prefer to follow the story line instead of randomly doing events over the map. I’m on a 3rd Earn your… and boringly grinding crap instead of being allowed to get into the story. It’s lame imo, takes the excitement of the story and turns it into a grab bag of events.
thanks

I look at those steps as the ‘quest’ leading up to the next story mission. In that perspective it’s not all that much different than any other game.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I’m on or waiting to start , “the way in”. I think this might be where the story takes us to rata novus but for last 2-3 days been trying to grind the masteries to do it and already found my way to rata novus. It’s a total spoiler imo.

Did I miss something on the story line here, because I seemed to finish it very fast, just followed the steps along and was very surprised when it was done.

Just had one part I couldn’t start before I got “X” mastery, second one down beginning with an N. (3rd from the top I think). Got that pretty fast.

I was quite shocked how fast the story was over.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

Maybe it’s a server thing, done the forgotten city 5+ times, I’d say on average there’s about 5-20 people on the points. Also killing random creatures cause not enough players around doing other events. I’m constantly at champs and other things either alone or just with a few people, mostly failing. It seems very boring waiting. It’s a real turn off to pve, I was hoping it would be more exciting.

thats what we call the vocal minority.

HoT spat in the face of all that Anet said they stood for.

This game is becoming nothing but a grind fest with no character progression after level 80.

Spat in the face. Hyperbole much?

The original story was gated too. There were many times it was too high for me and I had to level to get there. Anet changed the game to have it so that every 10 levels you get all the story arc of a single arc, but you still have to go 7 levels before you get to it.

I’ve been playing this game from day one and the Iteration was such that there were always waits for story. If not based on level it was based on waiting for the next Living Story instalment to come out.

The biggest requirement to continue the story was removed, so I’m not really sure what the fuss is about.

The problem is, if you don’t play peak time, you are constantly on empty maps. then you have to waist time waiting to be “taxied” on to a populated map. this artificially creates the feel of grind, and getting no where fast with the masteries.

I don’t get to play all that often, and when I do, it’s not at peak times. HoT maps seem to always be empty, and I always get the pop up asking to change maps. but the one I change to, seems just as empty.

I know ANet has said it’s a problem with the mega servers, but I’m starting to wonder if it is that, or if Hot is more of a swing and a miss. after the first 2 weeks.

Sorry mate, but I’m in Australia. I know all about peak times. If you want a trick, try guesting to Sea of Sorrows before you start and see if that helps put you in fuller maps. That’s the unofficial Oceanic server. Might save you a lot of hassle.
